Italian cartoonist dropped after Israel furore,
By John Phillips, The Independent (UK), January 13, 2005
"Italy's most popular cartoonist, Giorgio Forattini, was looking for a job yesterday after being controversially dropped by daily newspaper La Stampa in what is suspected to be a response to recent protests by readers incensed by the maestro's irreverent political sketches. A Forattini vignette depicting Jesus Christ in a Bethlehem stable manger faced by Israeli tanks, asking "Are they going to kill me again?" generated a storm of protests, according to rival daily Corriere della Sera. Signor Forattini conceded that the cartoon "touched rather a delicate chord, but on the other hand that is my job."

[We can't risk posting what the JTR contributor wrote to us to precede this article, lest we be banned from the Internet. But we understand his disgust and anger. And so should you. Jewish obnoxious arrogance and power has reached its ugly zenith. The public has been molded into sheep by the decades-long barrage of Judeocentric propaganda from every possible angle. With the expanding world war for Zionism and its Jewish neurosis, let us hope this is the twilight of the great Jewish dance upon those they have for so long manipulated and exploited.]
Why Hot, WASPy Chicks Love Jews,
by Joel Stein, Los Angeles Times, January 9, 2005
"This is embarrassing to admit, but we thought you didn't like us. So while we Jews were controlling the media, we tried to avoid putting actual Jewish characters in front of you. Seinfield, sure. But we made George Costanza Italian. We gave Craig Kilborn a talk show. But now that you've spent about $200 million to laugh at Ben Stiller's mega-Jewish parents dealing with his WASPy soon-to-be-in-laws in "Meet the Fockers," we feel comfortable showing you our big Jewish selves. Philosemetism, which is so new we had to invent a word for it, has led to a whole new genre: Jewsploitation. In addition to "Fockers," there's the movie "The Hebrew Hammer," Heeb magazine, Jewcy clothing, Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song" and his animated film "Eight Crazy Nights," and an upcoming collection of bar mitzvah stories called "Bar Mitzvah Disco." The fact that young Jews in Hollywood feel comfortable creating Jewy characters isn't surprising. That's what happens when you forget to stop scaring us. You let us into your country clubs, gave us your women and encouraged our most annoyingly self-righteous member to run for president. So now that we've assimilated to the point where we're completely the same as white people, we're trying to re-create a community by shoving our culture down your throats. The bizarre part is that the same masses who saw "The Passion of the Christ" are into it. With "Meet the Fockers," otherwise sane people in red states were willing to fork over $6 — or however much they pay for movies in their Third World economy — to hang out with my parents for two hours. The success of "Meet the Fockers" shows that America is familiar and comfortable enough with Judaism to get the jokes. Al Jazeera may be right. The stereotype in Jewsploitation isn't the neurotic, nervous Jews of Woody Allen films, which you guys never seemed to like much. The Jews in "The Fockers" are loud, inappropriate, obsessed with sex and bodily functions, overly affectionate, liberal, earthy and smothering. These traits seem to amuse people who don't get two helpings of it a day from parents who can't seem to understand that this is precisely why we moved 3,000 miles away to Los Angeles. But they are also the traits that eventually teach the WASP parents in "Fockers" to loosen up and enjoy life. It's the same function black people perform when they are forced to be in movies with Steve Martin. Blacks do voodoo; Jews do therapy. We both are portrayed as clownish people who eat too much, talk loudly, rebel against authority, use colorful slang, over-emote, are too in touch with our bodies and are clannish. We happen to be the only two groups of people in the world who don't just pretend but actually enjoy jazz. Josh Neuman, the editor of the Jewsploitation magazine Heeb, is concerned about this new role. Then again, like most Jews, he's concerned about everything. "It's a kind of a fetishization of the Jew," he said. "In the middle-American mind, Jews are beloved people. They're a special kind of Christian. They're like babies. They haven't yet matured into full-fledged humans. I don't think it's 'Meet the Fockers' today, Kristallnacht tomorrow. But I don't think kabbalah is a good thing." Neuman has a point about this fetishization thing. Like the assimilated Ben Stiller character who marries Teri Polo in "Meet the Fockers," super-WASPy women seem to be into us. Suzanne Somers once told me that Jews make good husbands because we have good relationships with our mothers. Good relationship, suffocation, what's the difference? The point is Suzanne Somers likes us. And I love Jewsploitation. It's what we were doing already anyway. When you belong to a people who can completely pass as white, you have the luxury of exploiting your difference when it's to your advantage and hiding it when it's not. It's why we crafted this clever but adorably harmless image. We've infantilized ourselves. Because hot WASPy chicks love babies."

[Welcome to the Apocalypse. Once Israel has this stuff, the little monster state can strike at anyone, anywhere.]
Israeli Official Urges Space-Based Weapons,
By BARBARA OPALL-ROME, (from globalnet DefenseNews.com), January 11, 2005
"Israel's top lawmaker for defense and security affairs has called for the development and deployment of space-based weapons as part of an integrated sea, air and space force designed to deliver decisive victory in future full-fledged conventional wars. In a rare public discussion on Israel's military use of space, Yuval Steinitz, chairman of the Israel's Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, said the nation must compensate for its lack of strategic depth on land by expanding use of sea- and space-based attacks. Specifically, Steinitz urged defense and industry officials to consider future developments of anti-satellite missiles, satellite-attacking lasers and ship-based missiles "that can strike the skies." "In Israel, our strategic Achilles' heel is our miniscule geographical size," Steinitz told a Dec. 22 symposium sponsored by the Israeli Space Society and the Fisher Institute for Strategic Air and Space Studies. "This lack of ground territory - and our obligation to defend the homeland from attack - drives the need to develop a strategic envelope of air, sea and space forces not only for defense, but for attack" ... Tal Inbar, vice president of the Israeli Space Society and research fellow at Israel's Fisher Institute of Strategic Air and Space Studies, said, "This is the first time an Israeli official publicly talked about the need for Israel to develop its own space warfare capabilities such as ASAT [anti-satellite], radiation weapons and so on." And while Steinitz conceded that his exhortations for a militarized, tightly integrated sea, air and space force was merely "my personal vision, at this point," he said he would use his influential committee chairmanship to push for greater space-related funding. "What we're seeing today is just the beginning spark of a new kind of warfare that warrants a new kind of defense doctrine and organizational structure," Steinitz said. "In the long term, it should be possible to consider segregating the [Israel Defense Forces] into two arms: the Ground Forces arm and the Envelope Forces, which I envision as a combined sea, air and space arm that ensures strategic depth for deterrence and defense," Steinitz said. Israel's technological advantage over regional adversaries will allow it to determine where and how the next major war will be fought, he said ... More than 150 nations, including Russia, China, Canada and members of the European Union, are pressing for a permanent ban on weapons in space that goes well beyond the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which first codified "the peaceful use of outer space" and outlawed military bases or weapons of mass destruction in orbit. Annual attempts to update the treaty to include ASAT and other space-based weapons remain unsuccessful, largely due to opposition from the United States. "Israel is one of the very few nations of the world that routinely abstains from voting for a resolution to ban weapons in space," noted Theresa Hitchens, vice president of the Washington-based Center for Defense Information, a public policy think tank. "The assumption has always been that Israel did so to demonstrate political support for Washington ... But this news that serious people in Israel are seriously pushing for weaponizing space is highly disturbing, and shows that thinking in the United States is starting to corrupt the policies and doctrine of other space-faring nations," she said."

U.S. TROOPS USING ISRAELI GEAR,
Defense Tech (edited by Noah Shachtman), date?
"America is only in the first year of the kind of fight Israel has been waging for decades. So it's only natural that the Pentagon is starting to get some of its combat technology from Tel Aviv. "From tennis ball-sized sensors that can be thrown or shot from sniper’s rifles into terrorist lairs to wall-breaching devices for urban combat, gear invented for Israel’s anti-terror wars in Gaza and the West Bank are increasingly being put in the hands of U.S. warfighters," Defense News reports. One system proposed for the U.S. Marines is a remote-controlled weapon station for crew protection and target engagement. Combined with an... acoustic sensor detection and direction-finding device, it essentially becomes a robotic anti-sniper weapon for wheeled or tracked vehicles... [An Israeli] firm sold 100 maritime versions of the remote-controlled systems to the U.S. Special Operations Command in late 2003... Meanwhile, the Pentagon’s Combating Terrorism Technology Support Office has ordered multiple prototypes of a new, 360-degree surveillance sensor from a small Tel Aviv-based firm called ODF Optronics Ltd. Called the Eyeball, the tennis ball-sized reconnaissance system contains motion-detectors, a voice-activated recorder, speakers, microphones and transmitters to see, hear and communicate with enemy insurgents within a 25 meter radius... And, the U.S. Army has ordered an additional 14 Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd.-developed Hunter unmanned aerial vehicles to support ongoing operations in Iraq. The Hunter contract, estimated at $33 million, is a follow-on to the Army’s existing fleet of systems, which collectively flew more than 3,000 hours over the Iraqi theater, U.S. and Israeli sources said."

Ali G’ character causes near riot at rodeo. Crowd turns ‘downright nasty’ after ‘Borat’ garbles national anthem,
MSNBC, January 13, 2005
"British comedian Sasha Baron Cohen escaped a near-riot at an American rodeo while filming his satirical “Da Ali G Show.” According to a report in the Roanoke (North Carolina) Times, a man who was introduced as Boraq Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan — in reality a Cohen character named Borat — appeared at the rodeo over the weekend after organizers agreed to have him sing the national anthem. After telling the crowd he supported America’s war on terrorism, he said, “I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq.” He then sang a garbled version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The Roanoke Times reported that the crowd turned “downright nasty.” One observer said “If he had been out there a minute longer, I think somebody would have shot him.” Cohen and his film crew were escorted out of the Salem Civic Center and told to leave the premises. “Had we not gotten them out of there, there would have been a riot,” rodeo producer Bobby Rowe told the paper. “They loaded up the van and they screeched out of there.” It is not the first time Cohen has wooed controversy with his show, which airs on HBO. In one episode last year, Borat sang an anti-Semitic song called “Throw the Jew Down the Well” at a U.S. country music bar, prompting protests from the Anti-Defamation League."

Dirty Little Secrets. Bush’s Homeland Security czar Mike Chertoff and his days in New Jersey,
by Doug Ireland, LA Weekly, January 14, 2005
"
The Bush White House thinks it’s being clever by naming a prosecutor instead of a criminal to head the Department of Homeland Security. But Mike Chertoff’s appointment in the wake of the failed nomination of scandal-plagued Bernie Kerik (now under investigation by multiple law-enforcement agencies) is as political as one can imagine. Especially for those who know the arcana of politics in New Jersey, where Chertoff was U.S. attorney, and where his naming to the Homeland Security job caused jaws to drop. Chertoff was a political attack dog in that job, indicting and convicting a raft of Democratic officeholders. But one whom Chertoff deliberately let get away was his big buddy Bob "The Torch" Torricelli, forced to resign his U.S. Senate seat from Sopranoland in a major corruption scandal. Nick Acocella, editor of the respected insider newsletter New Jersey Politifax, recalls that, at the height of the Torricelli scandal, and while Chertoff was U.S. attorney, he saw The Torch and Chertoff, at a South Jersey Jewish banquet, embrace and huddle intimately "like twins separated at birth." One would have thought a federal prosecutor would have kept his distance from a target of criminal investigations that were making daily headlines in the Jersey press. When Chertoff was named by Bush to head the Justice Department’s Criminal Division — partly because he was a skilled political hit man who’d also raised a ton of money as financial vice chair of Bush’s Garden State campaign in 2000 — it was an open secret in Jersey that he squelched an indictment of Torricelli as a reward for The Torch’s support of key Bush legislation the Democratic Party leadership opposed. (Many of the fat cats Chertoff shook down for Bush had also been huge givers to The Torch.) Long active in the Federalist Society — a conspiratorial brotherhood of legal reactionaries — Chertoff, at Justice, helped to write the civil-liberties–shredding Patriot Act. He was John Ashcroft’s honcho in the indiscriminate grilling of over 5,000 Arab-Americans after 9/11, devised the use of "material witness" warrants to lock up people of Middle Eastern descent and hold them indefinitely without trial, and on behalf of the Justice Department wrote a brief (in Chavez v. Martinez) arguing that there was no constitutional right to be free of coercive police questioning. Moreover, Chertoff wrote legislation, known as the Feeney Amendment, that gutted federal sentencing guidelines, under which federal judges were allowed to use some discretion when sentencing criminal defendants, by preventing judges from shortening sentences — and, moreover, required judges who deviated from the Feeney Amendment to have their names and actions reported to the Justice Department, thus establishing what Senator Teddy Kennedy denounced as a judicial "blacklist."Why would Chertoff give up a lifetime seat on the federal bench to take a job in the hornets’ nest of problems that is the DHS? According to a top Jersey Democratic pol who knows Chertoff well, Chertoffdescribed as being "as cold-blooded as they come" — has a personal agenda that includes becoming U.S. attorney general and, eventually, grabbing a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. But there’s a problem for Chertoff with conservative Republicans — he happens to be pro-choice. So, taking the DHS job is Chertoff’s way to "make his bones," as they say in Jersey, and make headlines as a hard-line persecutor of "the towel-heads" to please the right and neutralize his abortion stance. But Chertoff has zero experience in running anything remotely resembling the DHS, a mammoth with 180,000 employees and 22 federal agencies under its umbrella. He was picked for two reasons: his political loyalty to Bush (he won’t go off the reservation on his own as Tom Ridge did) and the fact that he’s already been confirmed by the Senate thrice, so he has no hidden Kerik problems and will sail through with little or no opposition from the spineless Democrats (he’s already been endorsed by Senators Chuck Schumer and Joe Lieberman for the DHS job). But choosing someone on the basis of confirmability rather than qualifications is dangerous — as is the choice of a hyper-ambitious Torquemada for a job with enormous power over our already-reduced rights and liberties, which will no doubt be further eroded under Chertoff."

Federal Appeals Court to Hear Arguments on AJCongress' Case v. Corporation for National Community Services,
U.S. Newswire, January 13, 2005
"The American Jewish Congress will be back in court on Friday, January 14, 2005 to argue for affirmation of Judge Gladys Kessler's ruling of June 2, 2004 declaring unconstitutional, AmeriCorps Education Award Program (EAP), administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, as they were granted to Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) and two similar programs. AJCongress argued and Judge Kessler agreed that these amount to taxpayer-supported "religious indoctrination" violating the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. The case, no. 04-5317, will be argued beginning at 9:30 AM at the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit's, The E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse, 333 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001. AJCongress won the case arguing that (CNCS) violated the Establishment Clause by providing education awards to teachers who serve in religious schools, and by making grants to the religious organizations that oversee those teachers. It further argued that The CNCS allowed the teachers to teach secular and religious subjects, which too closely linked the government with the school's religious mission, and also that there was no prerequisite to separate CNCS funds from the educational organizations' general fund. The presumption is that at least part of this mixed pool of funds was used for religious instruction and worship. The American Jewish Congress is a membership association of Jewish Americans, organized to defend Jewish interests at home and abroad, through public policy advocacy, in the courts, Congress, the executive branch and state and local governments. It also works overseas with others who are similarly engaged."

[Meanwhile ... the two-faced, deceitful American Jewish Congress turns a blind eye to America's neighbor. Money from the Canadian government to Jewish schools to be a more "tolerant" society? Or to provide more nests for breeding grounds for racist Zionism?]
Full funding to be extended to Jewish schools,
CBC News, January 13, 2005
"The Quebec government says it will fund the full cost of running Jewish private schools in Quebec, up from its previous two-thirds share of financing. Minister of Education Pierre Reid says the decision is designed to promote cultural diversity. Two Greek private schools already have full funding. The increased funding will flow to 15 schools with about 7,000 students. Jewish private schools have for years been telling the province they are underfunded. They teach the curriculum set by the education ministry, but they got less money than public schools. Under the new arrangement, the money for the schools will go first to a public school board. The board will then pass on most of the money to the Jewish schools ... Sylvain Abitbol, of the Combined Jewish Appeal, says the new arrangement will help to foster more contact between the private and public system, with the result being a more tolerant society. The increase for private schools is justified, he says. "It's like a public system for the Jews, and the schools were getting only 60 per cent of the funding," he says."

UK's Harry 'Should Visit Auschwitz' in Nazi Row,
by Jeremy Laurence, Reuters, January 13, 2005
"A leading Jewish rights group demanded on Thursday that Britain's Prince Harry go to Auschwitz to atone for wearing a Nazi uniform at a party just two weeks before the 60th anniversary of the death camp's liberation. The 20-year-old grandson of Queen Elizabeth has apologized for wearing a swastika armband and an army shirt with Nazi regalia at a costume party on Saturday, but rights groups and politicians said he should do more. "This was a shameful act displaying insensitivity for the victims, not just for those soldiers of his own country who gave their lives to defeat Nazism but to the victims of the Holocaust ..," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean of the U.S.-based Simon Wiesenthal Center. He added in a statement: "We strongly urge Prince Harry to accompany the British delegation on January 27th to the Auschwitz death camp to commemorate 60 years since liberation. There he will see the results of the hated symbol he so foolishly and brazenly chose to wear" ... Photographs of the younger son of the late Princess Diana and heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles in Nazi attire appeared in the Sun newspaper in Britain, as well as in Israeli papers and on Web sites around the world. Harry, third in line to the throne, said in a statement he was sorry if he had caused any offence. "It was a poor choice of costume and I apologize," he said. "INTOLERABLE" A spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Blair said: "Clearly an error was made, that has been recognized by Prince Harry and it's better that this matter is dealt with by (Buckingham) Palace." But Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom was less sympathetic, saying the use of Nazi symbols was intolerable ... Conservative opposition leader Michael Howard, who is Jewish, told BBC Radio: "It would be appropriate if we heard from him in person about how contrite he is." The picture of Harry in his Nazi outfit showed him with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Royal commentator Robert Lacey said he was just "a messed up kid" and should be left alone."

When Cheating on Your Spouse is Business. Online Matchmaker for Married Cheaters Tries to Answer the Fundamental Question: Why Cheat?,
ABC News, October 21, 2004
"Why do men and women cheat? For Darren Morgenstern, that question is more business than personal. Morgenstern runs AshleyMadison.com, a controversial Web site that helps married men and women who want to have an affair — but stay married — meet potential partners. One of Morgenstern's ads touts: "Some of us will always find a way to have multiple partners." To answer the fundamental question at the heart of his enterprise, Morgenstern hired a woman named Felecia to pose as a someone seeking an affair and secretly record what her would-be paramours told her about their motivations. Morgenstern shared the video with Primetime Live. The clients did not know about the taping nor did they consent to it, so their faces were concealed and voices were changed to protect their identities. But the dialogue is real ... Morgenstern's study did not only comprise men. On one of his hidden camera videos, a married woman looking to cheat was asked, "When was the last time you said you had sex with your husband? "Two years ago," she said to a male actor. "I have been sexless for two years." So the answer to Morgenstern's question appeared to be simple: Both men and women said that they are trying to fill a void. Nearly a dozen clients were interviewed on Morgenstern's hidden cameras and many gave answers similar to Josh, Bob and the woman: that they were trying to fill a void. And with more than 250,000 subscribers, Darren Morgenstern has learned he can make a living on one unconventional principle with which many disagree. "People change, relationships change, circumstances change. There are no absolutes, and you could get to a point in your relationship where it's just monotonous to remain monogamous," he said."

An affair of the wallet. Online site gets rich assisting philanderers,
by BRETT CLARKSON, TORONTO SUN, December 3, 2003
"Darren Morgenstern won't apologize for staking his livelihood on cheatin' hearts. You may have seen the TV ads for his Toronto-based company, the Ashley Madison Agency. As an online service catering to people who want to cheat on their partners, Ashley Madison is not your average internet dating game. "No question Ashley Madison is the topic of many water cooler conversations," founder Morgenstern said. With its "When Monogamy Becomes Monotony" tag-line, the veritable infidelity depot specializes in hooking up attached and married women with single or attached men for romance or otherwise, according to the site (ashleymadison.com.) Morgenstern acknowledges the pay service is controversial, but says, "We make no apologies for making a profit or making money, and I think in a lot of respects peoples' first reaction may be that of anger, but I think ... we're just very misunderstood." Morgenstern maintains the site doesn't encourage cheating, but rather it facilitates people who have already decided to have an affair. And apparently many people have. Since the site's launch in January 2002, close to 90,000 people, mostly Canadians, have signed on to use its services, Morgenstern said. The company's staff of three people has grown to 20 at its Yonge and Eglinton offices. Final edits of a 220-page book, The Ashley Madison Diaries, slated to be released in the new year are being wrapped up, and this year's profits are triple that of 2002. "I think it's beyond our expectations," Morgenstern said, adding the initial market research showed a huge infidelity niche just itching to be filled."

[Mr. Morgenstern has an interesting past:]
$2M from nothing,
by Ludmila Goroshko, Computer Crime Research Center, April 7, 2004
"At a minimum, 27,000 of site owners may have been victims of the domain scam invented by an enterprising businessman Darren Morgenstern. Each of them paid $70 to get rid of network swindlers. But they didn't kmow that the only swinlder was Darren Morgenstern himself. The scheme of his scam was simple and efficient. A regular victim received unsolicited fax solicitations stating, "URGENT NOTICE OF IDENTICAL DOMAIN NAME APPLICATION BY A THIRD PARTY." The letterhead identifies the sender as either Electronic Domain Name Monitoring or Corporate Domain Name Monitoring. The solicitation warns that an application for a domain name almost identical to the recipient's has been "submitted to the National Domain Name Registry (NDNR) for registration," by an unidentified third party. For example, the owner of a site "www.reuters.org" was told that an application had been submitted to obtain the domain name "www.reuters.net" The solicitation says, "Consequently, it is our opinion that this application may have been submitted in bad faith. . .." The solicitation lists four reasons someone might want a copy-cat domain name, including "disrupting the business of a competitor," or intentionally attempting to lure someone else's customers by creating a confusingly similar Web address. The fax solicitation offers to block the application by obtaining the copy-cat domain name for the fax recipient for a fee of $70. It warns that, if the consumer fails to act, "NDNR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR THE LOSS OF DOMAIN NAME LICENSE, IDENTICAL OR CONFUSINGLY SIMILAR USE OF YOUR COMPANY'S NAME; OR INTERRUPTION OF BUSINESS ACTIVITY OR BUSINESS LOSSES." Indirect costs were almost zero despite of usual cybersquatting (taking domain names conformable to "famous" names). And as distinct from these cybersquatters, Darren asked not thousands or millions of dollars, but a rather small amount of money. Therefore many companies many paid. The swindler had managed to raise about $2M before The Federal Trade Commission of the USA became interested in his activity. The Federal Trade Commission has asked a U.S. District Court Judge to halt an Internet domain name scheme that dupes consumers into needlessly registering variations of their existing domain names. The FTC has asked the court to issue preliminary and permanent injunctions to bar the deceptive marketing practices, to freeze the defendants' assets to preserve them for consumer redress, and to shut down Web sites used to promote the domain name scheme. The defendants named in the FTC suit are Darren J. Morgenstern, 1268957 Ontario, Inc., and 1371772 Ontario Inc., doing business as National Domain Name Registry, Electronic Domain Name Monitoring, and Corporate Domain Name Monitoring. The companies are based in Toronto, Canada, with an office in Atlanta, Georgia."

Hockey mogul to sue GTHL. Hyman `stunned' by league actions
Admits he receives salary from clubs
,
by Robert Cribb and Lois Kalchman, Toronto Star, January 13, 2005
"A bitter dispute between the Greater Toronto Hockey League and its most powerful member is heading for the courts. Stuart Hyman, who has gained unprecedented influence over 10 minor hockey clubs comprising 93 teams in recent years, plans to fight a league decision forcing him to walk away from five of his clubs, his lawyer Ron Manes said yesterday. "We were stunned by what the GTHL did," Manes said in an interview. "At this point, we're left with no alternative but to sue. Have we prepared the lawsuit? Yes. ... Was that our choice to have to do all this and go to court? The answer is absolutely not. We implored them to hear us out." On Monday, the GTHL took the dramatic step of terminating the membership of five of Hyman's organizations — the Weston Hawks, Toronto Penguins, Toronto Aeros, Scarborough Stallions and Leaside Kings — and suspending his league voting privileges. It's a move designed to address the growing problems of concentrated control, rising costs and what the league fears is potential "profiteering" in minor hockey. The GTHL imposed a Jan.21 deadline by which Hyman must surrender all control or influence over the clubs. If he does, the five clubs will continue to exist next season. If he refuses, the clubs will be folded and more than 930 players on 56 teams moved to other clubs for next season. "The board is absolutely confident in its position as a matter of law and as a principled matter of what's right and wrong," said GTHL lawyer Sean Dewart. "The board was left with no choice." The move is designed to bring Hyman into compliance with a league bylaw, passed in May, that states no person can exert influence over more than one organization in each of the Triple-A, Double-A and/or Single-A levels. The bylaw came into effect after Hyman had built his empire of teams over the previous five years. The 40-year-old Toronto real estate broker has insisted he never broke any league rules during his acquisition streak. Hyman's unprecedented control of minor hockey league clubs has put him at the centre of public concerns over the rising cost of competitive youth hockey. A recent Toronto Star survey of all 35 GTHL organizations that manage teams at the Single-A and Double-A level found none with basic player fees as high as those of teams linked to Hyman, in some cases $1,599 a season. Yesterday, Manes acknowledged for the first time that Hyman receives a salary and expenses from his non-profit minor hockey clubs. He would not say how much Hyman earns from his clubs but insisted his client is not a "profiteer" ... But the GTHL's Dewart said the league's move to force Hyman's divestiture of hockey clubs is partially rooted in concerns over "profiteering." "(League officials) can't even get proper accounting or transparency, but they are resolute that this remains an amateur, not-for-profit, community-minded organization," he said ... "There's a lot of parents upset (at high fees) that are looking to move their kids for next year anyway," said Tony Morano, father of a player on Hyman's Weston Hawks, one of the organizations facing termination. Other GHTL team operators interviewed yesterday supported the league's new hard-line approach with Hyman. "The majority of us don't like the publicity that has been generated by (Hyman)," said Peter Johnson, president of the Mississauga North Stars. "(GTHL members) don't want anyone to dominate politically and it was our intention to roll him back and he has to live (within) the rules like everyone else."

Don Kirshner is Coming Back on the Entertainment Scene In Preparation to Launch a New Internet TV Channel,
Yahoo! Finance, January 12, 2005
"Don Kirshner, legendary music publisher, producer and television host, has laid the groundwork for his new Internet broadcast channel to deliver high quality radio and audio/video content globally. Through four decades, he was the ultimate multi-media entertainment mogul. His "firsts" include the first simulcast, first VH1/MTV-style music video, The Monkees, The Archies and The Harlem Globetrotters TV programs, which successfully used the shows to sell the music, and his long running Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. "The Internet can be the biggest entertainment distribution network in the world," said Kirshner. "This time, I'm going global." Kirshner has always capitalized on trends and technologies, spinning them into an entertainment vortex that pulled in top talent and eager fans. Zionism is the Issue: Building a Strong Pro-Palestinian Movement In the US,
by Lana Habash and Noah Cohen, Axix of Logic, Jan 13, 2005
"To talk about the inherent racism evident in Israel's foundation and formation (which necessarily brings into question its international legitimacy) or the necessity and legitimacy of an armed anti-colonialist Palestinian resistance goes outside the bounds of this discourse. When these boundaries are broken, the limits are reinforced through a series of accusations ranging from "anti-Semitism," on the one hand, to "ideological purism," "sectarianism," and "divisiveness," or, at best, being "impractical" or "not strategic" on the other. The first of these accusations tends to be made by ideologically committed Zionists; the last, by well-intentioned people who consider themselves representatives of the "tactical left," persuaded that they must maintain an alliance with left-Zionists for the sake of credibility or other strategic gains. In this case, the left-Zionist position maintains its dominance precisely through such an alliance: without the tacit support of non-Zionists or anti-Zionists (in some cases cowed by the threat of the accusation of anti-Semitism, in some cases kept in line by an argument about the limits of "realism") this dominance would be broken by those who reject Zionism as a form of racism. As a result of the ascendancy of this alliance between left-Zionists and the "tactical left," Palestinians and other anti-Zionists and non-Zionists are faced with poor options for participation in movements for Palestine solidarity. For a Palestinian, there is always political space for participation as a victim, as long as one offers only stories of human rights abuses, but steers clear of any analysis. When Palestinians question Israel's legitimacy or advocate for resistance that exacts a serious cost on Israel, they are accused of not supporting the "peace agenda." "Peace" in this case is understood as maintaining the safety and security of Israeli citizens while Palestinians are subjected to racist domination and control. This leads many Palestinians and anti-Zionists to withdraw their support and consequently their voices from a broader movement that they find deeply racist and lacking in a strategy for liberation. The tactical left's understanding of strategy bears some scrutiny. Palestinians bring a knowledge of nearly seventy-five years of direct experience with the failure of "strategic concessions." From the Palestinian strikes of the 1930's to the first and second Intifadas, the practical concessions that Palestinians were told would help liberate what was left of Palestine have consistently and systematically been transformed into mechanisms for crushing resistance and facilitating colonization. The case of Oslo is a good example. As the popular civilian uprising of the first Intifada gained momentum and international solidarity, the practical effect of Oslo was to accomplish what Rabin's "Iron Fist" policy could not-crushing a popular civilian resistance. At the same time, the only long-term effect "on the ground" was the effective imprisonment of the entire Palestinian population through the creation of Israel's infrastructure of military bypass roads and checkpoints, paving the way for further colonial expansion in the form of settlements. The situation has grown steadily worse for Palestinians through this "peace process" no matter who has been in office, be it Labor or Likud in Israel or Republican or Democrat here, or whether the movement's call was to "support the Roadmap," "end the occupation," or "support a two state solution." A Palestinian friend in the West Bank said at the time of the Aqaba summit in 2003, "When Israeli political leaders start talking about peace, we start storing food and water." While Israel escalates its military offensive in the West Bank and Gaza, and reaches new levels of horror in the technological refinement of its system of collective punishment through closure, the "peace" discourse grows ascendant throughout the entire ideological spectrum of Zionism. And yet this peace discourse is not merely a way of concealing the reality of policy, it must be seen as a strategic retreat in the propaganda war-a retreat to a line of defense in the face of historical circumstances that challenge the nature of the Israeli state. The simultaneous increase in militarism and ethnic cleansing, and the ascendancy of the rhetoric of peace, are both expressions of a fundamental crisis. It might therefore be useful to examine the significance of the two basic tenets of the discourse-the legitimacy of the state of Israel and the illegitimacy of violence against Israelis-within current history."

Bush Picks Ex-Prosecutor for Homeland Post,
by Lara Jakes Jordan, Yahoo! News, January 11, 2005
"President Bush (news - web sites) nominated federal judge Michael Chertoff as the new Homeland Security chief Tuesday, completing the second-term Cabinet with a former prosecutor who recently called for a new look at the tough terrorist detainee laws that he helped craft after the Sept. 11 attacks. Chertoff, who took his seat on the 3rd U.S. Court of Appeals less than two years ago, is expected to easily win Senate approval. He has won confirmation three times during his career, as U.S. attorney in New Jersey, assistant attorney general and appellate judge ... Chertoff would replace Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, who helped build the new department after the terror attacks by combining 22 existing — and often competing — federal agencies. Ridge, often identified with the color-coded terror alerts, plans to step down from his post Feb. 1. Ridge "leaves some very big shoes to fill," Chertoff said. Known by colleagues as a fiery workhorse, Chertoff headed the Justice Department)'s criminal division at the time of the attacks. He said at the White House: "If confirmed as secretary, I will be proud to stand again with the men and women who form our front line against terror." Chertoff was the president's second pick for the job. Bush's first choice, former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik, withdrew last month citing immigration problems regarding a nanny. Chertoff's resume includes stint as a Supreme Court clerk and as the Senate Republicans' chief counsel for the Clinton-era Whitewater investigation. He helped develop the U.S. Patriot Act, which greatly expanded the government's surveillance and detention powers. His role in crafting that law, a measure that has become a flashpoint for critics who say it has eroded civil liberties, is expected to bring sharp questioning in Senate confirmation hearings. The American Civil Liberties Union said Tuesday that as an architect of the act, Chertoff seemed to view the Bill of Rights "as an obstacle to national security rather than a guidebook for how to do security properly" ... Sen. Joe Lieberman, ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, said he doubted Chertoff's role in crafting the Patriot Act "will be, in itself, a disqualification." More pressing, Lieberman said, are Chertoff's plans to manage a sprawling bureaucracy prone to infighting and competition with outside law enforcement and intelligence agencies ... Several Democrats also quickly offered praise for Chertoff's credentials. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Chertoff has "the resume to be an excellent Homeland Security secretary." Chertoff's tenure at the Justice Department included high-profile cases that his criminal division either lost or that have yet to be resolved: _ The collapse in Detroit of the first post-Sept. 11 prosecution of an alleged terrorist sleeper cell. The charges were thrown out because of misconduct by prosecutors. _ The case of a Saudi college student in Boise, Idaho, who was acquitted for lack of evidence on charges he created an Internet network that prosecutors claimed fostered Islamic extremism and helped recruit potential terrorists. _ The still-incomplete prosecution of Zacarias Moussaoui, the only U.S. defendant charged in an al-Qaida conspiracy that includes the Sept. 11 attacks. As the U.S. attorney for New Jersey from 1990 to 1994 — named by Bush's father — Chertoff oversaw prosecutions of Jersey City Mayor Gerald McCann, New York chief judge Sol Wachtler and the kidnappers and killers of Exxon executive Sidney Reso. Chertoff personally handled the stock fraud trial of Eddie Antar, founder of the failed Crazy Eddie discount electronics chain. As chief Republican counsel to the Senate Whitewater Committee, Chertoff played a major role in the investigation of various allegations against then-President Clinton, including his Arkansas business dealings and the suicide of Clinton aide Vincent Foster. In 2000, Chertoff worked in Trenton, N.J., as special counsel to the state Senate Judiciary Committee that investigated racial profiling. Chertoff and his wife each donated $1,000 to Bush's first presidential campaign."

A rabbi’s son with sense of balance nominated to head Homeland Security,
by Ron Kampeas, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, January 11, 2005
"Michael Chertoff, the Jewish judge President Bush nominated this week to head the vast Homeland Security bureaucracy, brings a rabbi’s son’s sensibility to resolving the tensions between protecting Americans and preserving civil liberties.
Bush made clear in his announcement Tuesday that he found Chertoff attractive because of his toughness and his sterling reputation. But Jewish community leaders who know him say the judge would bring much more than that to the position. “I can’t sing his praises high enough,” said attorney Stephen Flatow, who says Chertoff was instrumental in drafting the USA Patriot Act, which led to the U.S. indictment of a Florida-based alleged leader of Islamic Jihad, which claimed responsibility for the 1995 murder of Flatow’s daughter Alisa in a Gaza Strip terrorist attack. Chertoff, 51, would be Bush’s second Cabinet-level Jewish appointment; Josh Bolten has run the Office of Management and Budget since 2003. Chertoff was the top criminal justice official at the Justice Department at the time of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The controversial Patriot Act, which removed the wall between how domestic and U.S. foreign intelligence agencies gathered and shared information, accelerated the case against the Islamic Jihad leader, Sami al-Arian, who faces trial in Florida this summer. As a result of this legislation, “they were able to put together the case very quickly but thoroughly,” said Flatow, who is now chairman of the community relations committee of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest in New Jersey. Chertoff since has come to question what many consider some of the extremes of the Patriot Act — but that has also earned him Jewish praise. “To his credit, Judge Chertoff recognized himself that many of things done immediately after Sept. 11 were not things that should have been done,” said Paul Miller, the president of the American Jewish Congress, who has met frequently with Chertoff ... Chertoff has strong ties to the Jewish community. Born and raised in Elizabeth, N.J., Chertoff is the son of a rabbi, his two children have attended Jewish day schools and his wife, Meryl, was a co-chairwoman of the regional Anti-Defamation League’s civil rights committee when he was the U.S. attorney in New Jersey in the mid 1990s ... Chertoff has a reputation for toughness, and it is clear that Bush expects him to tame the Homeland Security beast ... Chertoff was the sole Republican U.S. Attorney who Bill Clinton kept in place after assuming the presidency in 1993, on the recommendation of then-Sen. Bill Bradley of New Jersey, himself a liberal Democrat, and largely on the basis of his success in pursuing mob figures. Chertoff also was the lead figure in persuading Israel to send back to the United States “Crazy” Eddie Antar, the discount electronics mogul who had sought refuge in the Jewish state and was convicted of stock fraud ... It is also seen as a plus that Chertoff, like Kerik, is from the region most immediately affected by the Sept. 11 attacks, and also the area with the highest Jewish concentration: the Northeast corridor. Residents of the area say they have been underfunded by the department. “Someone who comes from New Jersey and from this region might appreciate the issues facing us in terms of the funding formula for Homeland Security dollars,” said Lori Price Abrams, the director of the community relations committee for the MetroWest federation. “The allocations do under-award us.” Jewish institutions must now compete for Homeland Security funds funneled through the states. At the same time, Congress has appropriated but not yet authorized a $25 million fund for security for nonprofit institutions. That federal money would be more immediately available to Jewish groups than the state funds have been."

[What does Cardinal Lustiger's action here do but to underscore suspicion of "born-Jews" (and the attendant Jewish ideology of racialism) no matter what they say they are? And what role do "Jews" who refuse to surrender their Jewishness represent in the upper eschelons of the Catholic Church? Subversion. How many rabbis are running around who call themselves Catholics? And if they did, what would that essentially mean? Here is famed Holocaust guru Elie Wiesel's take on Cardinal (and possibly the next pope) Jean Marie-Lustiger's enduring Jewish identity: "He insists that having been born a Jew, he will die a Jew ... [WIESEL, E., 1999, p. 170] ... 'I feel Jewish,' the archbishop responds. 'I refuse to renounce my roots, my Jewishness' ... He goes to make the point that his Jewishness annoys anti-Semites and that this does not displease him. Why should he make them happy by turning his back on the people they execrate?' [WIESEL, E., 1999, p. 171] ... [He] is determined to remain a son of the Jewish people ... He acts accordingly; anyone who requests his assistance in defending a Jewish cause can count on his support." [WIESEL, E., 1999, p. 171-172] How can such a Judeocentric man -- at the heart of the Catholic hierarchy -- be truly trusted by anyone but Jews and their apartheid homeland? How is he anything but an agent for the Jewish Lobby, featured speaker to his true brethren below?]
Anti-Semitism focus of WJC parley in Brussels,
by Hilary Leila Kreiger, Jerusalem Post, January 10, 2004
"The World Jewish Congress opened its three-day plenary assembly here Sunday to address issues of anti-Semitism, interfaith dialogue, and networking with Europe. The WJC, which has collected millions of dollars in Holocaust restitutions on behalf of victims, will choose its slate of officers Monday. The organization has been going through an extended power struggle which has pitted most of the WJC leadership against WJC Senior Vice President Isi Leibler, who first made allegations about mismanagement in the handling of certain organization funds last year. He has charged that the assembly will be used as a forum to oust him from the organization. The WJC is also expected to release extensive documents clarifying its position and past actions regarding the on-going controversy. The plenary session, held every four to six years, is the first such WJC convention to be held in Europe in decades. The organization hopes that it will provide an opportunity for strengthening ties between itself and European officials. To that end, Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt and General Harald Kujat, chairman of the Military Committee of NATO, will be among the speakers. Roman Catholic Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, a born Jew who converted to Catholicism and is the son of an Auschwitz victim, was to be a guest speaker at the opening dinner Sunday evening. In addition, Edgar M. Bronfman, president of the WJC, and other representatives are to meet with European Union officials, including European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, following the assembly. Some 500 delegates from 88 countries are planning to attend."

[Jews, fraud, and (big) money: case #19 million. Still, note how prominent Jews and institutions flock to a wealthy Hebrew school that was founded on massive theft.]
Settlement lets school stay viable,
By Margaret Moffett Banks, News-Record (Greensboro, North Carolina) , January 11, 2005
"The American Hebrew Academy announced Monday it has settled the lawsuits brought against it by three Japanese insurers — a settlement its founder says leaves the academy’s future “no longer in doubt.” No one will say how much money the boarding school or Maurice “Chico” Sabbah of Greensboro paid to end the two-year legal fight. Lawyers for the Japanese companies had claimed Sabbah gave millions to the academy that was rightfully theirs. On Monday, school officials announced a settlement that “quiets all pending claims” against the school, yet allows the academy to keep “a significant financial endowment,” Sabbah said in a statement. “I want everyone in the local Greensboro community and the greater Jewish world at large to know that with the assistance of our board of trustees, the academy’s viability is no longer in doubt,” he said. Neither academy officials nor attorneys for the Japanese companies in New York would elaborate on the settlement, which they said was confidential. As of June 2003, the school had assets of $127 million. Officials haven’t disclosed the amount in the endowment. But the school said it can now develop a long-term plan for growth and development, a plan that had been suspended. Among those new strategies: Naming prominent New York philanthropist Michael Steinhardt to the academy’s board of directors. Steinhardt has given millions to various charitable causes, including $10 million to New York University’s School of Education. Other new trustees include Brandeis University President Jehuda Reinharz. The school also announced on Monday a new academy advisory board, including scholars from Harvard, Duke and UNCG. Glenn Drew, Sabbah’s nephew and former attorney for his business, has been named the academy’s interim executive director. For nearly two years, the school had been entangled in a billion-dollar fraud suit that involved Sabbah, business partner Kenneth Kornfeld and their aviation reinsurance company, Fortress Re. The three Japanese companies said they couldn’t pay the estimated $3 billion in losses related to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks because Sabbah and Kornfeld kept hundreds of millions for themselves instead of saving it to cover claims. In December 2003, a three-man arbitration panel awarded the companies $1.12 billion, finding that Fortress Re engaged in fraud and “wilful and deliberate misconduct.” Sabbah and Kornfeld settled last year for $400 million. The academy is a lavish, state-of-the-art boarding school, located on 100 wooded acres off Hobbs Road. It was designed by the late architect Aaron Green, a former associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. The campus includes an $11.6 million athletics center and pool. Every classroom in the lab-science building has a smart board that can function as a conventional blackboard or as a computer with Internet connections. The academy offers what it calls a “dual curriculum,” which includes traditional and Jewish-centered course work. Students enroll in seven classes a semester, three more than the average Guilford County student taking a block-style schedule. Hebrew-language and Judaic-study courses are mandatory, as is the two-hour study hall Sunday through Thursday nights. All students spend one semester studying in Israel. Tuition is $15,000, according to the school’s Web site. This year’s enrollment is 134 students. BusinessWeek magazine named Sabbah to its list of the 50 most generous American philanthropists in 2003. The magazine cited his donations to the academy, estimated at $100 million."

[Jewish propaganda on one side of the ocean says one thing, and on the other side another. Rabbi Berl Lazar is a racist Chabad. He is right about one thing: as long as Jews remain so incredibly powerful, all tip-toe in fear and silence beneath them.]
State Department wrong on racism: rabbi,"
Middle East North Africa Financial Network, January 11, 2005
"Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar has slammed a new U.S. State Department report on anti-Semitism in his country, Interfax news agency reported Sunday. "The U.S. State Department's special report lacks several aspects which point to positive changes in this respect over the past 15 years," Rabbi Lazar told the news agency. "We can't say the situation is absolutely satisfactory everywhere, but we see that it is developing the right way," he said. "The federal authorities understood several years ago, what we actually mean when we are talking about the threat of anti-Semitism as a precursor of fascism," Rabbi Lazar told Interfax. "Local governments have been taking active measures lately to combat anti-Semitism," he said. The rabbi said hooligans who had attempted to destroy a Jewish community center in Ulyanovsk were recently arrested, an anti-Semite journalist has been convicted in Novgorod, and Moscow prosecutors have recently appealed a suspended sentence for a publisher of Adolf Hitler's book "Mein Kampf." "Anti-Semites always belong to marginal groups in Russia. When Jews are weak, they act brazenly, but when a Jewish community is strong, they never venture to attack," Rabbi Lazar told the news agency."

[The British writer below thinks that Arabs who think the CIA might train moles to be Islamic leaders is a big laugh. But is it really that absurd? It's well documented that the Israeli army has been training the American military how to fight "terrorism." And in 1998, the Times of London noted the profoundly ruthless and dedicated degree that Israeli espionage can go. The paper revealed that "members of an Israeli undercover unit in the 1950s went so far as to marry Muslim women and have children by them to ward off suspicion ... The unit was designed for long-term espionage. Its members, Sephardim from a variety of Arab countries, were taught to speak in Palestinian accents ... Ironically, because they had been so rigorously taught the Koran, some became teachers, which gave them perfect cover for spying." [Walker, Christopher. Secret Israeli Unit Turned Jewish Spies into Arab Families. The Times (London), September 30, 1998]

Holy Joke. Serious reaction to a spoof news article tells us plenty about humour and religion, says Brian Whitaker,
Guardian (UK), January 10, 2005
"An intriguing news item was emailed to me last week. The CIA, it said, is trying to infiltrate Muslim groups, both in the US and abroad, by training its agents to act as muezzins in mosques. The muezzin is the man who summons the faithful to prayer, traditionally by climbing to the top of a minaret five times a day to issue his call. This places him in a uniquely useful position, according to a senior US intelligence officer quoted in the report. "He is a highly respected member of Islamic society and, as such, almost beyond suspicion," the quote said. "Not only that, but the towers provide a perfect vantage point for our agents to see what is going on at ground level." The CIA opened its first muezzin school at a deserted army airstrip in Virginia in 1989, with the school being specially equipped with six minarets from which its agents could practise, the report said. It added that the CIA was now capable of producing up to 100 qualified muezzins each year. Asked about the difficulties of mastering the adhan - the call to prayer - in Arabic, one former CIA muezzin was quoted as saying: "Oh sure, it's hard as hell. The adhan is a bitch, let me tell you. It takes months and months of hard work. And if you haven't got the voice in the first place, there's jus' no way." Wondering about the source of this tale, I searched the internet and found that it was published by khilafah.com, a website linked to the dour Islamist group, Hizb ut-Tahrir, on December 25. This confirms two things about khilafah.com, Hizb ut-Tahrir, and their kind - firstly that they are willing to believe any old rubbish that happens to fit their view of the world, and secondly that they have no sense of humour whatsoever."

[If you love apartheid Israel, we've got a Jewish organization for you join. Open to anybody!]

Jewish men find brotherhood
,
by Colleen McBrien, The DePaulia, January 2005 (?)
"
After going 106 years without one, DePaul finally has a Jewish fraternity. Around since spring 2002 as an unofficial fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi (AETi) became officially recognized Monday. “It’s a brotherhood. It’s a place for Jewish guys to come together and bond and have fun with other Jewish guys. Just a place to chill out and have a good time,” said Brian Raphaelson, a senior management student and vice president of AETi. AETi is a chapter of the international fraternity (the fraternity is Canada’s largest). After spending nearly the last year and a half following administration’s guidelines to become an official fraternity, AETi is now free to go about doing everything its mission statement stands for. According to their mission statement, the fraternity was founded “to provide opportunities for the Jewish college man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience.” It also states the fraternity is a “testing ground for young men who later become leaders in business, education, religion and science,” with a goal to “help each student to develop character, to learn responsibility and to develop a proper set of values through living together in brotherhood.” The fraternity’s success rate is undeniable, with its members as leaders in numerous industries. AETi members include Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon; Wolf Blitzer, a CNN correspondent; Herbert Baum, the president of Quaker Oil; Gary Bettman, the commissioner for the NHL; Steve Goldman, Paramount Picture’s executive vice president; and Stanley Prusiner, a Nobel Prize recipient, among others. “If you want to look at the results of how well a frat can prepare its men for successful positions … When you’re talking about CEOs of the largest banks in the world … it’s extremely substantial,” said Stephen Byer, master of the Beta Delta colony and senior psychology student. Although AETi is a Jewish organization, the fraternity is open to any male, regardless of religion, race or any other factors. “It’s about Jewish values, it is about social justice, it is about helping those who are disadvantaged, it’s about self-betterment,” said Byer. “Guys who aren’t Jewish but who do want to adhere to those values [are] more than able to join the fraternity and more than able to succeed. “There is a chapter down south with … zero Jewish people. They still are members of an international Jewish fraternity, they still go to the conventions and learn from it,” Byer said. “They go back to their schools and try to be as good of a fraternity as possible. It’s really great because it demonstrates that it’s all about adhering to these basic values.” The establishment of an AETi chapter at DePaul is noteworthy not only because it is the school’s first Jewish fraternity, but because it allows Jewish students to speak out freely about issues in a group without fear of being criticized or belittled. “By having an organization like this … we do have a chance to express our views in the marketplace of ideas and have the chance to substantiate them,” Byer said. He also said AETi has the potential to confront stereotypes about Judaism. “We will confront people’s beliefs and understanding of a situation. Hopefully we can give them a more enlightened prospective on it and we can help them come to a more comprehensive and honest conclusion as long as they’re open to hear what we have to say,” Byer said. While Byer hopes the organization will break down stereotypes and help people see things through a different perspective, he knows that some people’s arguably biased opinions won’t be swayed. “There will always be someone who has their mind made up. It doesn’t matter how much logic or how many facts I throw at them, they’re still going to have their values and they’re not going to want to change them until something significant happens that makes them change them,” Byer said ... The entire AETi association supports one organization each year. Last year, the association supported an Israeli ambulance service, for which the fraternity raised over $100,000. This year, AETi is backing Ethiopian Jews in Israel."

[At root, there's not too much to understand about Nazi Germany. When Jewish tribalism causes "hatred," Jewish tribalism gets "hatred." It's a loop. Quite the same way that brutal Israel has created "suicide bombers." Jews are always at least partly responsible for what happens to them, the same as anybody. Of course, the Jewish community has no interest in the obvious. And the new PBS series on Auschwitz is only SIX hours long? Perhaps they could butt the two ends together and show it straight for twelve.]
Psychology of Holocaust examined,
by Suzan Clarke, The Journal News, January 10, 2005
"
All of Holocaust-era German society — including military, governmental, civilian and corporate sectors — bore responsibility for the Nazi atrocities committed against Jews, leading scholars discussing the psychology and mentality of the time said yesterday. The panelists spoke after a documentary on Auschwitz was shown at The Museum of Jewish Heritage — A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in Battery Park City. The six-hour series, "Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State," which will air this month on PBS, marks the 60th anniversary of the notorious concentration camp's liberation. Responding to museum director David Marwell's question about how human beings could have allowed the Holocaust to happen were Raul Hilberg, an author and professor who fled Nazi persecution in 1938; Dr. Robert Jay Lifton, author of more than 20 books on such diverse subjects as the Vietnam War, the Chinese cultural revolution and Nazi doctors; and Harry Reicher, a leading international attorney and director of international affairs and representative to the United Nations of the Agudath Israel World Organization. Hilberg said he made a list of organizations and companies that would have benefited by association with the German government. He found that many in the wider society also bore blame — either through active participation or inaction — for the Holocaust, he said ... Reicher, the legal scholar, pondered the issue of why Nazis went to extreme lengths to codify their "massive legal assault" against Jews, who at the time represented less than 1 percent of Germany's population ... Some of the more ridiculous prohibitions included "you can't buy flowers from a Jewish flower vendor; you can't buy milk from a cow owned by a Jew," he said. [JTR editor's note: Rather like the Orthodox Jewish religious dictate that Jews may not dine with non-Jews, isn't it?] The numerous pieces of legislation were meant to dehumanize Jews, inure the population to the atrocities and cloak any subsequent actions in the guise of lawfulness and justice, he said."

Pilgrimage to Israel forges bonds,
by Rachel McClain, Philadelphia Intelligencer, January 11, 2005
"Rabbi Elliot Strom believes that to really experience anything, you've got to meet people. "An idea may excite you, but you should always meet people," he said. "When you connect to human beings, that excitement and thrill just gets that much stronger." So, you can't know Israel, Strom said, until you know its people. "For years, Israelis went through threats every day, but they still have compassion for themselves and the Palestinians," he said. "Whether you're Muslim, Christian or Jewish, you've got roots there."Strom, rabbi of Shir Ami in Newtown Township for more than 25 years, and members of five other Jewish congregations in Lower Bucks recently returned from a 10-day trip to Israel. Seventy-three local residents made the trek. They included area rabbis Jeff Pivo of Congregation Beth El in Lower Makefield, Howard Cove of Kol Emet in Lower Makefield, Glen Jacob of Temple Shalom in Bristol Township, Sigal Brier of Tzedek v'Shalom in Newtown Township and Jeff Schnitzer of Tifereth Israel in Bensalem. The trip was organized through the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia-Bucks County Region. "It's always a great opportunity when we can share such a meaningful experience with others in a community that we're working," Jay Podolsky of the federation said. "It was really amazingly successful" ... Lefkowitz admitted she was nervous about security, but her fears were calmed when she spoke to the Israeli people. Bags were checked at every public place, like malls and museums. "It was safe and wonderful, absolutely amazing," she said. "The Israelis talked about their daily lives, and being cautious is just part of their routine." Pivo said he believes Israel's calm, quiet nature and its similarities to American culture would surprise many ... Many members of the group said they feel closer to their religion because of the connections they found through other people.Although Strom and Pivo have both visited Israel before, they said the people made this trip unique."We had a wonderful time bonding," said Pivo. "It felt like we were one big family. We felt welcomed as guests but also as extended family by our Israeli hosts." "I grew up with a love for Israel," Strom added. "But I came back from this trip with a renewed sense of respect for its people. They're resilient, strong and brave."

Millbury man denies he helped kill Jews,
by J. M. Lawrence, Boston Herald, January 11, 2005
"An 89-year-old retired Millbury factory worker tried to save his citizenship yesterday by testifying he never killed Jews in the Warsaw ghetto in 1943, despite a Nazi roster showing his deployment. A
native of Lithuania who became a German prisoner of war, Vladas Zajanckauskas told a federal judge in Boston that he only worked in the canteen of a Nazi training camp in Poland during Hitler's ``Final Solution.''  Zajanckauskas' testimony directly contradicts an April 17, 1943, Trawniki training camp roster showing his name among 351 guards deployed to conduct house-to-house searches during the ``liquidation'' of Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. His attorneys Thomas J. Butters and Robert L. Sheketoff call the roster unreliable and uncorroborated by any other evidence. ``Not a single person (has) placed Zajanckauskas in Warsaw in April and/or May 1943,'' Butters said.  The Department of Justice's Nazi hunters claim Zajanckauskas lied on immigration forms about his service at Trawniki and never should have been admitted to the United States when he emigrated from Austria in 1950. He became a naturalized citizen in Worcester in 1956.  Zajanckauskas admits he never told immigration officials about his Trawniki service for fear it would slow up his immigration but says he never did anything at the camp but run the bar.   In court documents, DOJ attorney Jeffrey L. Menkin said Zajanckauskas was a trainer of other prospective non-commissioned officers when he was sent into Warsaw. He claims the Nazis promoted Zajanckauskas after the ghetto campaign and decorated him for bravery in 1944 for his service in an SS unit known as Battalion Streibel. Zajanckauskas' wife, daughter and three adult grandchildren sat with him yesterday during the first day of a three-day bench trial before U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton. ``We're here today as a family to support my grandfather,'' Denise Ronayne said. She called his testimony ``historical truths that will put this allegation to rest.''

Experts React to a Row Over Jewish Children Rescued by Church. Doubts Raised About Alleged Vatican Document, Zenit News Agency, January 11, 2005
"A controversy has been brewing over an article in the Italian press that contends the Vatican tried to keep baptized Jewish children from rejoining their families after World War II. It started Dec. 28 when Alberto Melloni published an article in Il Corriere della Sera entitled, "Pius XII to Nuncio Roncalli: Do Not Return the Jewish Children." The subheadline referred to an alleged document of the Holy Office, dated Oct. 20, 1946, which "reveals new aspects of a painful affair." The Corriere article cited an unpublished document that Melloni tracked down in France, regarding the conduct that the French clergy supposedly had in addressing the situation of children saved from the Holocaust. The document, cited by the Corriere, will be inserted in the second tome of the fifth volume of the national edition of the diaries and working agendas of Pope John XXIII. The work is edited by the Institute for Religious Sciences of Bologna. The fifth volume is scheduled to be published later this year. Melloni contends that Pope Pius XII transmitted "to Nuncio Roncalli," through the Holy Office, "chilling orders" not to send saved Jewish children to Jewish organizations and not to return them to surviving parents, if they had been baptized. The nuncio referred to was Angelo Roncalli, the future John XXIII. Melloni further contends that "the future John XXIII did not heed the orders that came from Rome and favored the return home of minors housed in French convents."
The article triggered an enormous outcry. In an article published in Il Corriere on Dec. 29, Amos Luzzatto, president of the Italian Jewish community, said "that there will be problems in relations with the Jews, if proceedings continue for the beatification of Pius XII." On Jan. 4, again in Il Corriere, Daniel Goldhagen called for the establishment of an international commission to investigate the Catholic Church.
Some historians, however, observed that the article made no reference to the archive from which the document was supposedly taken, nor to the possibility to compare the nature and signature of the document in question. In fact, the document does not bear any signature. Archbishop Loris Capovilla, 89, who was the secretary of the then nuncio in France, said in the daily Avvenire on Jan. 4 that "the attitude of the French Church and of Nuncio Roncalli himself was unequivocal: to save the lives of defenseless children, to give them safety with Catholic families who could care for them as their own children, to return the little ones to their original families once the latter had come forward." "Those children were saved from certain death," Archbishop Capovilla said. "The families then transmitted to them that which for them was their dearest treasure, the Catholic faith, but without constrictions. "The war over, it was then natural to screen the situations case by case, paying the highest attention to those who knocked on the door to reclaim the children: What should those families have done? Give the children raised together with their own to those who first presented themselves? The Church did nothing other than to counsel a rule of prudence, and to watch over the protection of the little ones." Archbishop Capovilla said that he was not aware of any case in which a Jewish child was impeded from knowing and re-embracing his own natural family.
In an article Jan. 4 in Avvenire, historian Father Giovanni Sale, of the Gregorian University, emphasized that "to describe Pacelli as anti-Semitic, to contrast him with Roncalli, and to desire a commission on the alleged non-restitution of Jewish children, is a provocation that also falsifies the historical truth" ... Also in agreement with the historian is Giorgio Rumi, professor of contemporary history in the School of Classics and Philosophy of the State University of Milan. He spoke in Il Corriere on Jan. 6 of the "anti-Catholic inquisition" and expressed concern that the Vatican directive on baptized Jewish children risked "unleashing a judicial use of history." Andrea Riccardi, lecturer on the history of Christianity at the III University of Rome, has spoken of "an operation of dark treatises."
In an editorial Jan. 4 in Avvenire, Riccardi wrote: "Perhaps one should question oneself about treatises of an anti-Pacelli obsession that risks confusing the outlines of history and of criminalizing this Pope, while the true responsibilities of the tragedy of the Shoah are toned down" ... Even Jewish historians Anna Foa and Michael Tagliacozzo have spoken out against what they consider to be errors in Melloni's article. On Jan. 2, Foa reviewed in the pages of Il Corriere della Sera the issue of the baptism of Jews, bringing to light the correctness of the Church, from Gregory the Great to John Paul II. On Jan. 4, Tagliacozzo wrote in Avvenire: "Pius XII Kidnapper of Children? But Let Us Be Done with Such Foolishness!"
Tagliacozzo, considered the highest authority in regard the matter of the Jewish community in the capital during the Nazi occupation, has recounted how he found refuge in the Lateran, where, among others, the future Cardinal Pietro Palazzini often went. In December 1943, Palazzini told him: "Nothing has been successful." "I understood that, despite the Pope's efforts, it was not possible to save the Jews of Rome," Tagliacozzo explained. "Not all at least." In regard to the children taken in by Roman families, Tagliacozzo confirmed that "they were returned to their parents as soon as possible. Already during the war some Jewish associations and also Palestinian volunteers who were fighting with the Allies went through the Roman religious institutes in search of Jewish children who were being housed. They did not find them, simply because they were not there."

UN to mark Holocaust anniversary,
CNews, January 2005
"
The UN General Assembly will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Second World War Nazi concentration camps at a special session on Jan. 24, Secretary General Kofi Annan announced Tuesday. Annan said he was pleased that a majority of the 191 UN member states had agreed to the U.S. request for a meeting of the world body to mark the liberation. "This will be an important occasion, since the United Nations was founded as the world was learning the full horror of the camps, and is dedicated to doing everything in its power to protect human dignity and prevent any such horror from happening again," UN associate spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. Annan called on all countries to give the session their full support, he said. In a letter to Annan on Dec. 9, U.S. Ambassador John Danforth requested a commemorative session on Jan. 24, three days before a similar event in the former Auschwitz death camp in Poland to mark its liberation by Soviet troops on Jan. 27, 1945."

[What is "hate?" Take it from the Jewish Lobby. "Hate" is anything Jews don't like: Mel Gibson, his The Passion movie, Christians, Christ, and the right of people to belive whatever they want. "Anti-Semitism for guys like Abe Foxman is literally money in the bank, and he can't let The Passion go.]
Why 'The Passion' Still Troubles Me
,
by Abraham Foxman, Anti-Defamation League, December 30, 2004
"
It is now some 10 months since Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ" opened in the United States, and a week since its opening in Israel. It is a good time to look back at the controversy surrounding the movie, which may be revived surrounding the lead-up to the February Oscar Awards. We need to distinguish between the movie itself and its impact. In its depiction of Jews and how it attempts to turn back the clock on the many positive changes the Catholic Church has made in the last half-century, the film could not have been worse. Gibson not only blames the Jews for the persecution and death of Jesus, but along the way he plays into and reinforces the stereotypes of Jews that have haunted our people for two millennia. At the core of anti-Semitism, and what makes it different from other forms of ethnic or religious hatred, is the image of the Jew as alien, conspiratorial and mystically all-powerful. This is the thinking behind medieval charges of Jews poisoning the wells and causing the plague, of the infamous Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, of Hitler's and Goebbels' propaganda. In his depiction of the Jews as representing the devil, as being more powerful, somehow, than the Romans themselves, Gibson is doing exactly what the Vatican has been trying to get away from ... I think it is useful for Jews, including in Israel, to see the film – despite the understandable feeling of not wanting to contribute to Gibson's overflowing coffers.Only by viewing it can one understand how offensive it is. As to its impact, I never predicted that the film would lead to pogroms, of which I have nevertheless been accused. I did express serious concern – especially at a time when anti-Semitism in the world was surging and where even in the United States one quarter of Americans held Jews accountable for the death of Jesus – that Gibson's movie would reinforce and rationalize old views about Jews that legitimize anti-Semitism. I am thankful that there were few anti-Semitic incidents in America following viewings. It is rare, particularly in the US, where people are bombarded with untold numbers of cultural images, for any one event to set off bigoted or violent behavior. The truth is that American attitudes toward Jews have significantly improved. Still, as I repeatedly said throughout the 1990s, when many people were challenging ADL's continuing focus on anti-Semitism as a potential threat, there is no reason to be complacent. It has been said that Gibson's film represents the greatest tool for evangelization that has ever existed. Indeed, more people will see it than all the passion plays from the Middle Ages to today. With the release of the DVD, potentially millions of schoolchildren will – through the years – be exposed to the film's vile notions of Jews surrounding the death of Jesus. Should attitudes toward Jews harden, which has happened before, the impact of the film could play a part ... Finally, I have no regrets about speaking up about the dangers of this film because when faced with these kinds of images, we must not stay silent. For the record: Before speaking publicly, I spent months trying to get Gibson to consider making changes that would have still enabled him to make a powerful film about the death of Jesus, without blackening the Jews. Only when Gibson made it clear that he was not interested in such sensitivities and claimed that he was simply telling it like it was did I conclude there was no option but to speak openly. It was not my public statements that led to the movie's spectacular box-office success, but Gibson's marketing campaign and the evangelical community's missionizing zeal to have it seen by millions. In the final analysis, we as a people are better off standing up to hate than doing nothing. "

Pelosi Names Rahm Emanuel to Head DCCC,
U.S. Newswire, January 9, 2004
"House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today named Congressman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois to lead the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "House Democrats are focused and determined to win a majority in the House in 2006, and Rahm Emanuel will be an outstanding leader in this effort," Pelosi said. "Rahm knows this country, its people and its politics from the neighborhoods up, which has been a key to his success and will be a key to ours in 2006. Rahm is a master strategist with the expertise and passion to build on the foundation that our dear friend Bob Matsui built during the last two years." In the 1980s, Emanuel held senior staff positions at the DCCC, and helped produce significant victories. He played a major role in the election of Bill Clinton as his Director of Finance in the 1992 Presidential campaign. Emanuel served as a top White House advisor to President Clinton from 1993 to 1998, first as Assistant to the President for Political Affairs and then as Senior Advisor to the President for Policy and Strategy. As a Member of Congress, he has distinguished himself with thoughtful ideas and strategic insights. "Rahm brings something more than a long resume," Pelosi said. "He brings the passion of an immigrant's son, and the street- smarts of his hometown of Chicago. His uncle has spent decades as a police sergeant in the same northwest side district Rahm now represents in Congress. His father was a pediatrician and treated thousands of children in the community" ... Emanuel, who was re-elected in November to his second term as Representative of Illinois' 5th District with 78 percent of the vote, was recently appointed to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. Emanuel was chosen by his Democratic freshmen class as Democratic Whip for their class. In the 2004 election cycle, he served as a Vice Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee of the New Democratic Coalition."

Hillary's finance chief indicted for L.A. gala
. David Rosen faces 20 years for filing fictitious reports on Hollywood soiree,
World Net Daily, January 7, 2004
"
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's former finance director has been indicted on charges of filing fictitious reports that misstated contributions for a Hollywood fund-raiser for the senator. The indictment charges David Rosen with four counts of filing false reports with the Federal Election Commission. The charges focus on an Aug. 12, 2000, dinner and concert supported by more than $1.1 million in "in-kind contributions" – goods and services provided for free or below cost. The event was estimated to cost more than $1.2 million. Rosen is the second figure involved in organizing the soiree for Clinton to become entangled in legal problems as a result. Aaron Tonken is currently in prison for his role in organizing the event – a tribute to then-President Bill Clinton and starring Cher, Patti LaBelle, Sugar Ray, Toni Braxton, Melissa Etheridge, Michael Bolton, Paul Anka and Diana Ross. Tonken has authored a tell-all book, "King of Cons: Exposing the Dirty, Rotten Secrets of the Washington Elite and Hollywood Celebrities," on his role in the fraud. The FBI previously said in court papers that it had evidence the former first lady's campaign deliberately understated its fund-raising costs so it would have more money to spend on her campaign. While the event allegedly cost more than $1.2 million, the indictment said, Rosen reported contributions of about $400,000, knowing the figure to be false. The indictment charged that he provided some documents to an FEC compliance officer but withheld the true costs of the event and provided false documents to substantiate the lower figure. In one instance, Rosen obtained and delivered a fraudulent invoice stating the cost of a concert associated with the gala was $200,000 when he knew that figure was false, according to the indictment. The actual cost of the concert was more than $600,000. Each of the four counts of making a false statement carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines upon conviction."

[Jewish trash talk show Jerry Springer: an icon for our times.]
BBC Airs Springer Musical Over Protests,
Earthlink (from Associated Press), January 8, 2005
"
Britain's public broadcaster televised "Jerry Springer - The Opera" on Saturday, despite appeals from church groups not to air the expletive-heavy musical. The British Broadcasting Corp. said it had received 40,000 complaints even before airing the show, which has been running in London's West End. Inspired by Springer's trashy American television talk program, it features songs titled "Pregnant By A Transsexual" and "Here Come The Hookers." It is peppered with obscenities and has drawn the ire of Christian groups, outraged at its portrayal of Jesus Christ in a nappy admitting he is a "bit gay." Leader of the Christian People's Alliance Party Alan Craig demanded the controller of BBC2 be sacked for screening the show. Lobby group Mediawatch U.K. has attacked the level of swearing. Critics claim the show has 8,000 swear words. That figure is calculated by multiplying the number of obscenities by the 27 members of the chorus who sing the opera's expletive-laden songs. BBC director general Mark Thompson defended the show and said that, as a practicing Christian, he did not believe it to be blasphemous. He also said viewers were warned the program contained offensive language."

Minister denies anti-semitism after attack on Howard,
by Melissa Kite and Tony Freinberg, Telegraph (UK), January 9, 2005
"A senior minister was forced to deny last night that he had been anti-semitic in accusing Michael Howard and another Jewish MP of failing to stand up for British Muslims. Mike O'Brien, the Energy Minister, issued a hasty statement after Mr Howard demanded an apology for remarks made by the minister in an emotionally charged appeal to Muslims to support Labour. "In an article in Muslim Weekly I attacked Michael Howard as Leader of the Conservative Party and not personally," said Mr O'Brien. "As minister for race equality from 1997 to 2001 I have a strong record in promoting good community relations, as well as challenging the evils of racism, xenophobia and anti-semitism." The row erupted after he launched an attempt to win back Muslim voters to Labour by questioning what would happen to them if Mr Howard were prime minister. "What will Michael Howard do for British Muslims?" he said. "Will his foreign policy aim to help Palestine? Will he promote legislation to protect you from religious hatred and discrimination? Will he give you the choice of sending your children to a faith school? Will he stand up for the right of Muslim women to wear the hijab? Will he really fight for Turkey, a Muslim country, to join the EU? The last thing we want is to vote in anger and repent at leisure as Michael Howard, with a big smile on his face, walks through the door of Number 10." Liam Fox, the Conservative co-chairman, last night wrote to the Labour chairman, Ian McCartney, asking him to disown the comments which he condemned as "despicable" ... It is not the first time that Labour has angered the Jewish community over its use of language. Mr McCartney called Oliver Letwin, another prominent Jewish member of the shadow cabinet, a "21st-century Fagan" in a speech to the Scottish Labour conference last year. Labour denied that he had intended an anti-semitic insult by comparing the Shadow Chancellor to the villain in Oliver Twist ... A Liberal Democrat backbencher also named in the article accused Mr O'Brien of singling him out because he too is Jewish. Dr Evan Harris was attacked by Mr O'Brien for opposing new religious hatred laws. he is writing to Mr O'Brien to demand why he was singled out for criticism."

[Here's another Jewish scam expose. But what's especially interesting is the headline's emphasis. More important to the newspaper than the scam itself is the fact that one of the Jewish religious scamsters says that Jews brought the Holocaust down upon themselves. Kabbalah leader's Holocaust 'slur'. A senior figure in the controversial Kabbalah Centre - the sect championed by stars including Madonna and Demi Moore - seems likely to spark a storm of protest by saying Jews killed in the Holocaust brought their downfall upon themselves,
by John Sweeney, BBC (UK) , January 9, 2005
"Eliyahu Yardeni, of the London Kabbalah Centre, made the astonishing claim to an undercover reporter investigating high-pressure sales techniques employed by the group, which promotes its own brand of beliefs, part ancient Jewish mysticism and part pseudo-science. The probe also revealed how Kabbalah Centre representatives claimed bottles of "healing" spring water sold by the group could help cure cancer - and how they sold a batch to a sufferer for hundreds of pounds. Talking about the wartime massacre of the Jews, Mr Yardeni said: "Just to tell you another thing about the six million Jews that were killed in the Holocaust: the question was that the Light was blocked. They didn't use Kabbalah." £860 'remedy' The claim provoked outrage from Kabbalah scholar Rabbi Imannual Schocket, from Ontario, Canada. He said: "To me this is one of the most obscene statements anybody could possibly make." Genuine scholars of Kabbalah, which is a respected branch of ancient Jewish mysticism, reject the Kabbalah Centre as an opportunist offshoot of the faith with charismatic leaders who try to attract the rich and the vulnerable with the promise of health, wealth and happiness. The Holocaust claim comes in a secretly-filmed BBC documentary. One undercover reporter, who has suffered from cancer, went to the London Kabbalah Centre - a £3.7million building off Oxford Street - seeking help, and was offered a package of remedies for the disease for £860. The cost included nearly £400 for 10 cases of Kabbalah water, £150 for "extra-strength" water and £289 for Zohar books - the Kabbalah "bible". The Zohar is also said to have special powers which followers can benefit from by running a finger over the text as if reading Braille. A second investigator, who worked undercover as a Kabbalah Centre volunteer for four months, was told how the Kabbalah water worked, with a devotee explaining: "We start with the purest artesian water and then we do the various meditations, injecting energy into it." The Kabbalah Centre website explained that a process called Quantum Resonance Technology "restructures the intermolecular binding of spring water". The investigation discovered the water actually comes from CJC Bottling, a bottling plant in Ontario, Canada, which was the subject of a public health investigation in 2002 into how its water was tested. CJC was ordered to improve manufacturing techniques, though there was no suggestion that they ever sold polluted water. Lucrative market The film also investigates the background of the sect's founder, "Dr" Philip Berg, who is known to followers as the Rav. He enjoys a millionaire's lifestyle in Los Angeles. The source of Mr Berg's "doctorate" is not clear, but it is known that he was born Feivel Gruberger in New York, trained as a rabbi and worked as an insurance agent before deserting his first wife and seven children for second wife, Karen. The couple then set up their first Kabbalah Centre in Tel Aviv. The lucrative marketing operation for the water, Zohar books, face-creams, candles, videos, and red string bracelets worn by followers came later."

Glickman Relishes New Role,
by Brooks Boliek, Hollywood Reporter, July 2, 2004
"Dan Glickman was once known as one of the funniest men in Congress. As a veteran lawmaker, he was known as someone who turned his sense of humor into a tool that could disarm his most vociferous opponents. And a sense of humor is something he will need as the former Kansas congressman and agriculture secretary has to make the transition from corn and sow bellies to Internet piracy and movie stars ... Behind Glickman's self-deprecating, deadpan wit, however, lies a serious student of public policy, who says his jobs as agriculture secretary under President Clinton and as a moderate Democrat when he once ran the House Intelligence Committee will help him steer the motion picture industry through trying times ... During Thursday's press conference, when asked his favorite movie, he replied: "Any movie my son produces." He then named what seemed like 20 films produced by his son, Jonathan Glickman, a partner in Spyglass Entertainment. Glickman joked that he and his wife, Rhonda, a former staff director of the Congressional Arts Caucus, think the films produced by the younger Glickman are "the greatest movies ever made" ... The family ties to the industry are likely to come in handy for the new leader of the MPAA as he takes on a job where the companies often war with the creative talent as much as each other, and all concerned fight over the best way to protect their products from piracy ... Glickman is an active Democratic donor, according to the Associated Press. He has given roughly $20,000 to Democratic party committees and candidates this election cycle, including $2,000 to presidential hopeful John Kerry. Glickman also has Republican connections. He and former Montana Gov. Marc Racicot, chairman of President Bush's re-election campaign and former head of the Republican National Committee, have served as co-chairmen of the U.S. Consensus Council, a panel created by Congress to reach agreement on major national issues, and has donated to GOP candidates as well, including $500 to Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel and $500 to Louisiana House candidate Bobby Jindal this election cycle. Glickman represented Kansas in the House from 1977-95. He was principal author of the 1990 farm bill and headed the House Intelligence Committee during its investigation of the Aldrich Ames espionage case inside the CIA. He also served on the House Judiciary Committee, the chief panel on copyright issues."

Israeli envoy welcomes Berlin Jewish intake cut,
Expatica (Germany), January 7, 2005
"Israel's ambassador to Germany, Shimon Stein, on Friday welcomed plans by Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's government to cut Jewish immigration to Germany.
Stein told the Freies Wort newspaper that moves by Berlin to limit Jewish migrants from the former Soviet Union conformed with Israel's view there could not be any true Jewish refugees because Israel was the homeland of all Jews. The German government is still seeking to hammer out a final deal on limiting Jewish immigration with Germany's 16 federal states and the country's Central Council of Jews, which opposes restrictions. "I see no reason for a new regulation and for limiting Jewish immigration," said the Central Council's President Paul Spiegel last month who also complained he had not been consulted over the plan ... Israel has long been unhappy over the large number of Jews choosing to settle in Germany and Stein said the goal was to encourage Jewish immigrants to go to Israel. The German government says about 190,000 Jews have come to Germany as immigrants from the former Soviet Union since 1991. Prior to this Germany's Jewish community numbered about 30,000. Berlin opened its door to Jews under a deal in 1990 between then chancellor Helmut Kohl and German Jewish leaders in the run-up to German reunification. The move was partly to aid Jews suffering from anti-Semitism in the former East Bloc and partly German realpolitik aimed at showing the country responsible for the Holocaust was so transformed that it had become attractive for Jewish immigrants."

Auschwitz 60 years on. 'If I met Mengele now, I'd forgive what he did to me. Her face peered out from an iconic image taken on the liberation of the Nazi death camp. Now, six decades on, one survivor tells David Smith her compassion extends even to the most infamous of her torturers,
The Observer (UK), January 9, 2005
"Eva Mozes Kor learnt on her first night at Auschwitz what the smoke billowing from the chimneys meant: that most of her family had been killed. Later she and her twin sister were subjected to biological experiments by the Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. Yet 60 years after the unprecedented crimes of the Holocaust, she has reached a conclusion: 'If I could meet Dr Mengele today, I would say to him: "I have forgiven you".' A rare image published in The Observer today shows Eva as a girl at Auschwitz. It is from a film made by Soviet troops after they liberated the camp 60 years ago this month. Not surprisingly, Eva's forgiveness for the people who murdered her family is not shared by all the survivors of Auschwitz and other concentration and extermination camps who will mark the anniversary."

Gush Katif's foreign legions. Thousands of Jews - and Christians, too - are waiting in the U.S. for the call to join the struggle of the settlers in Gaza. And the use of violence has not been ruled out ,
by Akiva Eldar, Haaretz (Israel), January 8, 2004
"
As in the turbulent days of protest against Yitzhak Rabin and the Oslo accords, zealots throughout the Jewish and Christian world are expressing solidarity with their brethren in the Holy Land. Many of the names are familiar, such as New York City councillor Dov Hikind and Rabbi Mordechai Friedman, president of the American Board of Rabbis. But this time around the focus is on Ariel Sharon, who was their true soul mate in the mid-1990s, and on a very imminent evacuation. In Gush Katif, they expect that when the hour of reckoning comes, Diaspora Jewry will not only send financial aid, but will also dispatch legions of people for the violent struggle against the government. Settler spokespeople report that they've received thousands of inquiries from Jews as well as Christians who are waiting for the call. Dror Vanunu, the PR director for Gush Katif, says that he's even heard from interested volunteers from Congo. Last week, Vanunu returned from a speaking and fund-raising tour in North America. Together with Brigadier General (res.) Zvi Fogel, the former chief of staff of the Southern Command, he visited Jewish communities in major cities on the East Coast and in the south. Vanunu says that both the Jews and Christians he spoke to contributed generously - all for the children of Gush Katif. They also received the blessing of Rabbi Hershel Billet, who is know to be particularly close to President George W. Bush. The peak of the visit, Vanunu relates proudly, was at a gathering of supporters at a Brooklyn synagogue. The hall was too small to hold the thousand people who came to hear the emissaries from Gush Katif. Mayor Michael Bloomberg had promised to attend, but in the end, he sent his regrets and was represented by others from his office. The guest of honor was councillor Hikind, who was Meir Kahane's right-hand man until the early 1970s. The fight against the disengagement plan has brought Kahane back into the picture, and not only in the posters on buildings in Hebron and Jerusalem. Washington lawyer Kenneth Klein, who represents the Kahane Chai movement, recently informed fans of the late racist rabbi that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has granted a license for the establishment of the Kahane Chai Legal Defense Fund, whose aim is to prepare for the legal battle to get Kach, Kahane Chai and Kahane.org removed from the U.S. State Department's list of foreign terror organizations. "For the first time since 1995, individuals and organizations will be able to make contributions to seek the revocation of these designations," Klein wrote. Clenching the fist According to The Jerusalem Post, Rabbi Mordechai Friedman, as head of the American Board of Rabbis, represents no less than 1,000 Orthodox rabbis. Other sources cite a lower number - hundreds or even just dozens. At any rate, Friedman does not need the approval of the U.S. Treasury. His Web site is linked to that of the Jewish Defense League (JDL), which bears the notorious logo of a clenched fist against a backdrop of a yellow Star of David. Friedman once declared that "the Israeli army became the radical leftist militia of [Yitzhak] Rabin and [Shimon] Peres" and that their "dictatorship" was persecuting the settlers. In an interview published last week in the Post, Friedman promised that he would endeavor to get the members of his organization to come to Israel to fight the disengagement and that violence was not to be ruled out. "We need to paralyze the country," he said. "The only way to do that is with means which include violence." Horrified by what he read, a young man named Jordan Turner, who is studying government at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, sent Rabbi Friedman a letter by e-mail, in which he wrote: "Well, Rabbi Friedman, if your goal is to cause more violence and `paralyze' my country, as you put it, then you can stay in America because you're not welcome here!" A response was not long in coming. When Turner opened his e-mail the next day, he couldn't believe his eyes. Here are a few choice quotes from the lengthy reply: "The government is Judenrat and those soldiers and police who beat up on Jewish children, men and women are KAPOS! Rambam ... stipulates a Jew who turns other Jews to the Goyim or Jewish property to the Goyim is a moser and should be immediately executed! The Shulchan Aruch [Code of Ethics] ... stipulates the same. Both first state, the moser has no place in the world to come ipso facto they go to hell!!! You are a Kapo! If you wish to be disrespectful do it to your father! ... Every Jewish child, woman and man that is murdered in Israel is on your hands! "The Maccabees executed tens of thousands of Jewish traitors. If you lived then, you would have been executed! With a regime change in Israel or the coming of the Moshiach [Messiah], you and your ilk will be executed. Those earmarked for execution shall be medically examined; if they are healthy, they will be sedated and their organs, blood etc. harvested for Jewish victims of Arab terrorists ... May Hashem [the Lord] curse you and your family takef umiyad mamish [immediately]." The continuation appeared in the e-mail in capital letters: "We see on Israeli satellite TV ... how you Kapo soldiers and police beat Jewish halutzim [pioneers], women with babies in their hands are punched, shoved and kicked. Shame shame shame. Hashem will pour down on you all the wrath that you all deserve. We shall monitor the news media to see if your name appears on the list of dead soldiers" ... Evidently, the last time right-wing Jewish extremists were barred from entering Israel was in December 1995. The group in question was comprised of seven American Jews, led by Rabbi Abraham Hecht, who had proclaimed to thousands of rabbis that "killing Rabin and anyone who helps him is not only permitted, but required" (documented in the book "Murder in the Name of God," by Michael Karpin and Ina Friedman, published by Zmora Bitan). A little more than two years later, Eli Suissa of Shas, then the interior minister, canceled the ban that kept Hecht from entering Israel. His justification for the decision: Rabbi Hecht had apologized. Suissa also said that if the rabbi ever came to Israel, he would be ready to shake his hand. Since the right returned to power, and especially during the years of the intifada, a different attitude has taken over. Jewish tourists and groups of Christian Evangelists who come to cheer Israel on are warmly received by the immigration police, and American reinforcements, including Kach activists, occasionally join the snipers and stone-throwers on the hilltops of the West Bank. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry consistently denies entry to Israel to peace activists who want to protest against the separation fence or to help Palestinians save their olive trees from the hilltop thugs."

[Here's what you've been waiting for! A Jewish Robot detects "hate" on the Internet and there's no bias involved!!! None whatsoever! And, yes, it has COMMERCIAL applications!!! Hurray!!! Um, however, of course anyone supporting brutal, racist, apartheid Israel does NOT endorse "hate." Anyone who believes in the racist, segregationist, chosen people Judaism edict does NOT endorse "hate." The Simon Wiesenthal Center itself is in bed with torture-prone Israel but it does NOT of course endorse "hate." So, whoa! The preposterous "Global Hatred Index" invented by these Jewish totalitarians below and their inane quest for an "objective" strata of "hate" is far beyond merely being stupid. It is the provenance of wealthy third-graders with a lot of time on their hands, trying to prove that their next door neighbors are scum while self-veiling their own obsessive neurosis. Bottom line, anyone who types "I love Israel" into cyberspace these days is a grotesquely hateful monster (or deaf, dumb, and blind) and the $64,000 question is: Is the "objective" Jewish Robotic Hate Detector sensitive enough to pick "I love Israel" up amidst all the delusional Internet chatter?]
Measuring Hate,
by Leslie Palti, Foreign Policy, January/February 2005
"The first hate Web site (sponsored by a white-supremacist group) appeared on the Internet in March 1995. Today, the number of hate sites on the Net exceeds 4,000, according to Richard Eaton, a researcher at the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Alarmed by the racial and ethnic stereotypes being peddled online, Middle East scholar Stephen P. Cohen and software entrepreneur Jacob Levy recently created software that gauges levels of hatred on the Web, the Global Hatred Index (GHI). Using algorithms and text-analysis technology, Cohen and Levys software automatically searches, scans, and analyzes millions of Internet messages—from online discussion forums, chat rooms, blogs, etc.—to assess levels of hatred toward, say, the United States, Jews, or Muslims. For instance, in one recent index, conducted between June 2003 and May 2004, the software analyzed nearly 2 million messages. The results? An average of 35 percent of the messages expressed some level of anti-Americanism, 32 percent were anti-Semitic, and 20 percent contained anti-Islamic content. Cohen and Levy tout their technology—which has commercial applications—as an unbiased measure of online hatred, because their software does not know the identity or source of the information it is analyzing. Nor does it rely on asking survey questions, which, Cohen and Levy argue, are inherently biased. It’s a good addition to the knowledge of hatred on the Web, says Brian Marcus, director of Internet monitoring at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), but it is only as good as what it can search. Currently, Cohen and Levy’s software can only scan in English, a severe limitation considering a large amount of hateful rhetoric may be in other languages. Nor can the GHI search the “closed,” or password-protected, sites that many hate groups use. “The technology is neutral,” says Marcus, “but what they are searching would determine the results.” Despite these limitations, David Rosenthal, a Zurich-based expert on hate crimes, calls the GHI a “small step” in the right direction. Although the GHI is not a cure-all, you can’t fight hate if you don’t find it first."

Divestment from Israel and e-mail campaigns,
by Tom Regan, Christian Science Monitor (Web columns and blogs, January 5, 2005
"Divesting from Israel The Monitor's religion writer, Jane Lampman, had written a story, From churches, a challenge to Israeli policies, about a vote by the Presbyterian Church (USA) to use economic sanctions against certain companies doing business with Israel – especially those companies that profit from Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza – as a means to pressure the Israeli government to return to the negotiation table with the Palestinians. Ms. Lampman's piece included comment from both sides about an issue that stirred strong passions, but was still an important story to report. Along with the story, the Monitor's Web team created a poll on the subject (See right). It asked 'Should US-based churches boycott certain companies doing business with Israel?" The two possible answers were "Yes, US government has failed to act to curb Israel's aggressive policies towards Palestinians," and "No, it is discriminatory and does not help the peace process with the Palestinians." And as with the story on the first presidential debate, the story and the poll had hardly been posted online when the e-mail began to pour into the Monitor. Most came from people who were infuriated that the Monitor had run a poll asking the question about divestment from Israel. They accused the Monitor of being anti-Semitic, un-Christian and hateful for even raising the issue. Vitriol flowed freely. One e-mail even accused the Monitor of either being "French or terrorists." It soon became obvious that we had become the target of an e-mail bomb campaign. Why did we suspect this? Well, many of the e-mails only referred to the poll and not to the actual story ... we began to notice that many of the e-mails were what we call "cut and paste" replies. For instance, this e-mail came to us from an Eric Shai: The vote that you have chosen to place on your site TWICE now, (why?) regarding weather or not to divest from one side in a conflict, is infuriating. I strongly feel that you are sacrificing your relationships with the Jewish world...and with non-Jews who value Israel. Do you realize how one sided and hypocritical it is to do this, and do it twice? Please expect more letters like this as your vote is enraging people internationally...I know this because I am receiving e-mails from people all over the globe regarding this vote. Thank you for considering this view, and how your actions are affecting those of us voting NO to divestment from one side in a conflict....Particularly, Israel, the only democracy in the region, and MORE particularly, a country as small as one-eighth of one percent of the Middle East, surrounded by Arab countries who would relish her destruction...who have supported her destruction by supporting terrorism. It may not be your intention to promote divestment in order to promote the destruction of the only Jewish state on the planet... but that is exactly how this effort on your part will be viewed." A few minutes later, we received this nearly identical e-mail from a Leeat Troman ... We received several dozen more with almost the same language. (For the record, the poll was never "posted twice." The name was changed from "Poll" to "Readers Vote" during its 30-day duration, but the poll was never removed and then put back online.) We were also the recipients of a genuine e-mail bomb - our web technicians told us that someone tried to send over 3 million copies of the same message (comparing us to Hitler, apparently) in an effort to bring down our e-mail server and jam our website."

WJC to call on NATO to grant Israel 'associate membership',
Haaretz (Israel), January 8, 2005
"The World Jewish Congress will call on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization next week to grant Israel associate membership in the alliance to bolster Israel's security and smooth relations between Europe and the Middle East, an official said on Friday. World Jewish Congress Chairman Israel Singer said the organization would propose the move at a meeting of Jewish leaders from around the world in Brussels. The organization represents Jewish communities in nearly 100 countries. "An associate membership can have many different faces," Singer told Reuters ahead of the January 9-11 conference, adding the proposal did not mean Israel should be a full member of the 26-nation alliance. "That would make Israel feel secure," he said. "If Israel became secure in its approach, it would change the entire mix with regard to Israelis taking chances for peace, and the rest of the Arab world would look at Israel differently." He said the move would also help bridge a gap between European and Middle Eastern nations. "NATO itself has changed. In that function Israel could play a major role tying the Middle East and Europe together."

[The Jewish Lobby is completely asinine -- neurotic and self-obsessed beyond comprehension. And their love of wildly vindictive censorship explodes off the charts in the case below. People, look at where the Western world is heading. What viciously censorial nuthouse has Judeocentrism created for us? Everywhere, always, the Jewish Thought Police watches closely what you say. Note carefully the crime against Jews below, wherein Jews plan on SUING a Christian archbishop. For what? Throwing a torch at a synagogue? No, the priest made the unpardonable sin of comparing abortion to the Holocaust. We suggest -- in humble servitude to our Jewish masters -- prison time and a steep fine to punish the criminal priest. If he speaks wrongly a second time, we dare not complain when Jews drag him from the pulpit, forge the old nails, strip him to a loincloth, and crucify him.]

Cardinal Regrets Holocaust Remarks,
Deutsche Welle (Germany), January 1, 2005
"A German cardinal on Saturday said he regretted comparing abortion to the genocides carried out by Hitler and Stalin, which sparked a public outcry here, and claims to have been misunderstood. "I regret that it has got to this pitch," the Roman Catholic Cardinal of Cologne, Joachim Meisner, said, stressing that he would never have made such a comparison if he had thought it could have been open to misinterpretation. During a sermon in the city's cathedral on Thursday, the cardinal declared: "First there was Herod, who ordered the children of Bethlehem to be killed, then there was Hitler and Stalin among others, and today unborn children are being killed in their millions." On Friday, the co-president of the Greens party, which is in coalition with Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's Social Democrats, demanded an apology from Meisner. "He must apologize to those he has offended," said Claudia Roth. Jewish Leaders Mull Legal Action. The president of the Central Council for Jews in Germany, Paul Spiegel, said the cardinal had insulted the millions of victims of the Holocaust and that he was considering taking the matter to court. Spiegel told Friday's edition of the newspaper Saarbrücker Zeitung he "cannot in any way understand" how anyone could compare abortion and euthanasia to the crimes of the Nazis. The ecumenical movement Initiative Kirche was also dumbfounded. "Meisner has completely lost his authority as a bishop and has publicly done a great wrong to the Catholic Church and to dialogue between Jews and Christians," it said."

Phil Spector Admitted Shooting L.A. Actress-Police,
Yahoo! News (from Reuters), January 7, 2004
"Famed music producer Phil Spector at first told police he accidentally shot B-movie actress Lana Clarkson to death at his home in February 2003, contrary to his later claim that she committed suicide, newly released transcripts of grand jury testimony show. Five volumes of grand jury testimony were released late Thursday after the Los Angeles Times and other news organizations mounted a successful legal challenge against defense efforts to keep them sealed. Beatrice Rodriguez, a police officer dispatched to Spector's mansion in a Los Angeles suburb, said that when she arrived, the 64-year-old music producer said, ".... I didn't mean to shoot her. It was an accident." Spector's driver, Adriano De Souza, told the grand jury that about three minutes after he heard a shot inside the house and called police, Spector came out holding a gun and told him, "I think I killed somebody." He said that when asked for more details, Spector shrugged his shoulders and did not say anything. Three women also testified that in various circumstances, ranging from a house party to a visit to his home, Spector had threatened them with a gun. Spector, famed for his "Wall of Sound" productions for such stars as the Beatles and Ike and Tina Turner), is charged with murdering Clarkson, 40, on Feb. 3, 2003 after picking her up at the Los Angeles nightclub where she worked as a hostess. Now free on $1 million bail, he faces life in prison if convicted. He has subsequently claimed in an Esquire magazine interview that Clarkson shot herself to death. The actress died of a single bullet wound to her head."

["Gene Simmons," born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel:]
Alleged Ex-Girlfriend Sues KISS's Gene Simmons,
1010 Wins, January 8, 2004
"A woman who says she is a former girlfriend of KISS rocker Gene Simmons is suing him for slander, saying the bass guitarist made her sound like a "sex-addicted nymphomaniac" during a "rockumentary" on VH-1 television. Georgeann Walsh Ward, 53, of Chester, N.Y., says in court papers that a photo of her appeared 11 times during the report on KISS, shown on the network several times in July and August, while Simmons claimed to have had sexual encounters with 4,600 women. The documentary, "When KISS Ruled The World," purported to chronicle the band's 30-year career, assess its impact on rock music, and expose the quartet's "wild" antics. The other band members were guitarist/singer Paul Stanley, drummer Peter Criss, and guitarist Ace Frehley. Simmons says during the show, "There wasn't a girl that was off limits, and I enjoyed everyone of them," court papers say.
At another point Simmons says, "I was a 24-hour whore. All I ever thought about was sex." This, court papers say, was shown and followed by a photo of Ward with Simmons. Ward's papers say that because a photo of her with Simmons was shown during remarks about his sexual adventures, she was in effect portrayed as "wild" and "unchaste." "The implication was that (Ward) was a prostitute and/or solicited prostitutes, and/or (she was) a sexually loose woman," court papers say. Ward, married with a 21-year-old son, said she met Simmons at a concert in October 1972 when she was 21. For the next three years through fall of 1975, she says in court papers, they were in what she believed was "an exclusive, monogamous, romantic relationship." During much of the time they were together, Ward's court papers say, Simmons was a college student and then a sixth-grade teacher "until the success of KISS propelled him out of the classroom and out of plaintiff's life." Ward's lawsuit, filed Thursday in Manhattan's State Supreme Court, asks for unspecified damages from Simmons and his company, and from Viacom, VH-1's parent company, for alleged defamation and invasion of privacy."

A World Without Israel,
By Josef Joffe, Foreign Policy, January/February 2005
"Imagine that Israel never existed. Would the economic malaise and political repression that drive angry young men to become suicide bombers vanish? Would the Palestinians have an independent state? Would the United States, freed of its burdensome ally, suddenly find itself beloved throughout the Muslim world? Wishful thinking. Far from creating tensions, Israel actually contains more antagonisms than it causes. Since World War II, no state has suffered so cruel a reversal of fortunes as Israel. Admired all the way into the 1970s as the state of “those plucky Jews” who survived against all odds and made democracy and the desert bloom in a climate hostile to both liberty and greenery, Israel has become the target of creeping delegitimization. The denigration comes in two guises. The first, the soft version, blames Israel first and most for whatever ails the Middle East, and for having corrupted U.S. foreign policy. It is the standard fare of editorials around the world, not to mention the sheer venom oozing from the pages of the Arab-Islamic press. The more recent hard version zeroes in on Israel’s very existence. According to this dispensation, it is Israel as such, and not its behavior, that lies at the root of troubles in the Middle East. Hence the “statocidal” conclusion that Israel’s birth, midwifed by both the United States and the Soviet Union in 1948, was a grievous mistake, grandiose and worthy as it may have been at the time. The soft version is familiar enough. One motif is the “wagging the dog” theory. Thus, in the United States, the “Jewish lobby” and a cabal of neoconservatives have bamboozled the Bush administration into a mindless pro-Israel policy inimical to the national interest. This view attributes, as has happened so often in history, too much clout to the Jews. And behind this charge lurks a more general one—that it is somehow antidemocratic for subnational groups to throw themselves into the hurly-burly of politics when it comes to foreign policy ... Another soft version is the “root-cause” theory in its many variations. Because the “obstinate” and “recalcitrant” Israelis are the main culprits, they must be punished and pushed back for the sake of peace. “Put pressure on Israel”; “cut economic and military aid”; “serve them notice that we will not condone their brutalities”—these have been the boilerplate homilies, indeed the obsessions, of the chattering classes and the foreign-office establishment for decades. Yet, as Sigmund Freud reminded us, obsessions tend to spread. And so there are ever more creative addenda to the well-wrought root-cause theory. Anatol Lieven of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace argues that what is happening between Israelis and Palestinians is a “tremendous obstacle to democratization because it inflames all the worst, most regressive aspects of Arab nationalism and Arab culture.” In other words, the conflict drives the pathology, and not the other way around—which is like the streetfighter explaining to the police: “It all started when this guy hit back." The problem with this root-cause argument is threefold: It blurs, if not reverses, cause and effect. It ignores a myriad of conflicts unrelated to Israel. And it absolves the Arabs of culpability, shifting the blame to you know whom. If one believes former U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter, the Arab-Islamic quest for weapons of mass destruction, and by extension the war against Iraq, are also Made in Israel. “[A]s long as Israel has nuclear weapons,” Ritter opines, “it has chosen to take a path that is inherently confrontational.…Now the Arab countries, the Muslim world, is not about to sit back and let this happen, so they will seek their own deterrent. We saw this in Iraq, not only with a nuclear deterrent but also with a biological weapons deterrent…that the Iraqis were developing to offset the Israeli nuclear superiority.” ... Now to the hard version. Ever so subtly, a more baleful tone slips into this narrative: Israel is not merely an unruly neighbor but an unwelcome intruder. Still timidly uttered outside the Arab world, this version’s proponents in the West bestride the stage as truth-sayers who dare to defy taboo. Thus, the British writer A.N. Wilson declares that he has reluctantly come to the conclusion that Israel, through its own actions, has proven it does not have the right to exist. And, following Sept. 11, 2001, Brazilian scholar Jose Arthur Giannotti said: “Let us agree that the history of the Middle East would be entirely different without the State of Israel, which opened a wound between Islam and the West. Can you get rid of Muslim terrorism without getting rid of this wound which is the source of the frustration of potential terrorists?" The very idea of a Jewish state is an “anachronism,” argues Tony Judt, a professor and director of the Remarque Institute at New York University. It resembles a “late-nineteenth-century separatist project” that has “no place” in this wondrous new world moving toward the teleological perfection of multiethnic and multicultural togetherness bound together by international law. The time has come to “think the unthinkable,” hence, to ditch this Jewish state for a binational one, guaranteed, of course, by international forc ... Josef Joffe is the publisher of Die Zeit, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, and distinguished fellow at the Institute for International Studies, both at Stanford University."

U.S. Wants to Replace IAEA Chief ElBaradei,
Earthlink (from Associated Press), January 8, 2004
"He's running unopposed, but Mohamed ElBaradei may still fail in his bid for a third term leading the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, tripped by his main opponent, the United States. Unable to find a candidate willing to oppose the independent-minded Egyptian diplomat, Washington is now quietly lobbying other member states in ElBaradei's International Atomic Energy Agency in a bid to unseat him by June, opening the way for a replacement more to the Bush administration's liking - one harder on Iran and other nations on the U.S. nasty list. With the agency spearheading international attempts to squelch nuclear proliferation, who controls the IAEA is key for Bush administration officials. They want someone sharing their view of which country represents a nuclear threat and what to do about them. ElBaradei has challenged those views - particularly over prewar Iraq and Iran, both labeled part of an "axis of evil" with North Korea by President Bush. He first disputed U.S. assertions that Saddam Hussein had an active nuclear weapons program - claims that remain unproven. He then refused to endorse assertions by Washington that Iran was working to make nuclear weapons. Tehran says its nuclear program is for generating electricity. A direct U.S. attempt to unseat ElBaradei fizzled late last year, with the Americans unable to find anyone to challenge him for a third term by the Dec. 31 deadline, shortly after the Bush administration called on him to step down after completing a second term this summer. Since then, the nuclear power struggle has moved underground, but even before Dec. 31 much of it was cloak and dagger, including reported U.S. wiretaps of ElBaradei's phone conversations in attempts to show he was demonstrating favoritism toward Iran in his investigation of its nuclear activities. This is not the first U.S. campaign against heads of U.N. organizations deemed at odds with American foreign policy. Jose Mauricio Bustani was voted out of office as director general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in April 2002 after Washington accused him of mismanagement and rallied other countries in a vote to have him dismissed. At the time, Bustani's supporters said Washington wanted him removed not because he performed poorly but because he supported making Iraq a member of his organization, which might have interfered with U.S. plans for war in Iraq. U.S. officials in Vienna and Washington refuse to discuss Washington's strategy in toppling ElBaradei. But diplomats accredited to the Vienna-based IAEA say America has a new candidate in the wings, who will be presented if the United States swings enough nations on the IAEA board of governors to back its demand for a no-confidence vote in the incumbent. "They've already started lobbying in the capitals," one diplomat told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. "Whether or not they call for a (no-confidence) vote depends on the support they will get" ... Agency officials close to the soft-spoken and austere diplomat say that privately he is of two minds about what they describe as an occasionally nasty U.S. campaign. "His reaction was: 'This is old news. Why do we have to dignify this with a response?'" said one, when asked about ElBaradei reaction to revelations of his phone calls being bugged. "On the other hand, from a personal standpoint it bothers him" that his conversations with family members are being monitored. To oust ElBaradei, Washington must find backing from 12 other member nations of the 35-nation IAEA board of governors. It already can count on traditional allies Canada and Australia and several others, and diplomats say it hopes to sway enough others from Europe to get the required number."

[Prominent Jewish propagandist David Horowitz is former "radical leftist." Today he has swung to the opposite side of the pendelum as a far-right kook. And what is th common denominator across all his chameleon history? Love for apartheid Israel. And his sordid strategy to protect it? Wrap himself in the flags of both Israel and the U.S. and make Jews/Israel and the U.S. into one big ugly enchilada, wherein world justice-seekers are unable find a distinction between Jewish-Zionist dominance/oppression and its coopted American miltary machine.]
Unhealthy bedfellows,
by , The Australian, January 8, 2005
"Such seemingly improbable partnerships are the subject of David Horowitz's new book, Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left. Calling this alliance the "Hitler-Stalin pact of our times", he warns of its potential impact, especially in undermining the war on terror. Horowitz, the founder of the online magazine FrontPage and a former radical leftist, is at his best in documenting the intellectual connections between these strange bedfellows. He shows, for instance, how the anti-American pronouncements of Noam Chomsky have become increasingly indistinguishable from those of the fire-breathing clerics who appear on Arab satellite TV stations. Horowitz points to the participation of militant Muslims in some of the most publicised antiwar rallies and also provides useful historical context for this unlikely romance. Over the past century, he argues, the radical Left in Europe and the US has come to define itself as a movement against, rather than a movement for. Primarily, of course, its target has been the US, no matter what the US has stood for. When the US declared war on terror, it was time, once again, for the Left to lionise whomever America opposed. That radical Islamists hold social and cultural values diametrically opposed to those of American leftists is not, Horowitz maintains, as big a problem for either party as it might appear. Today's radicals tend to pay tribute not to al-Qa'ida but to groups such as Hamas, whose extensive social-service network can be invoked to soften the horrors perpetrated by its terror cells. (Interestingly, though, few if any of today's leftists have decamped for Tehran or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.) For their part, the prophets of radical Islam have not only borrowed from the Left in recent decades, they have learned to appeal to leftist sympathies. The Arab media now constantly condemn the US for victimising the Third World and supporting tyrants. Horowitz's Unholy Alliance is among the first serious examinations of this troubling and relatively new relationship. But he scents what is decidedly new in the developments he describes. A decade ago, a red-green (green being the colour of Islam) alliance would have seemed astounding. On campuses in Europe and the US, women's groups usually avoided Islamist organisations, which often held highly misogynistic beliefs. The primary concerns of hard-leftist groups tended to be labour rights and poverty. Few had ties to any Muslim organisations. One powerful catalyst that changed all this was the birth of the anti-globalisation movement. The real and imagined evils of globalisation have breathed new life into the international Left, especially among the young. But radicals have not rested content with protesting the policies they dislike. They also sought villains, and they have found familiar ones: the US and the Jews. Despite the youth of many anti-globalisation activists, they have drawn upon and updated venerable tropes of traditional anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism. The Rockefellers and Rothschilds have disappeared as international bogeymen, replaced by theories of Jewish and American intrigue at the World Trade Organisation and other supranational economic agencies ... The partnership between Islamists and the international Left poses its most immediate threat to Jews. As Horowitz rightly worries, the anti-Semitic propaganda spread by the red-green alliance stokes violence against Jewish communities and makes Israel an ever more vilified object of rage. Ultimately, too, Islamists may turn some part of the anti-globalisation movement towards violence ... Joshua Kurlantzick is the foreign editor of The New Republic. This is an edited excerpt of a longer article which appeared in the December 2004 issue of Commentary."

It's about the rising costs of the minor hockey in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), the biggest hockey association for minor hockey players in Canada. Since the story broke, the GTHL president (John Gardner) has been getting grilled by pissed off parents for the high cost of playing hockey in the league - Exactly what is happening to him in this panel discussion. Team sued parents over hockey fees. Legal action called 'embarrassment' to the sport Claim dropped when the Star enquired about it,
by ROBERT CRIBB AND LOIS KALCHMAN, Toronto Star, October 27, 2004
"When a group of Toronto parents balked at paying hundreds of dollars more than expected for their teenage boys to play minor hockey last season, the club shot back with a lawsuit. The unprecedented move by the Toronto Penguins Midget A hockey team against six of its players and their families has been called "an embarrassment" to the league, which finds itself in the midst of a furor over the price of youth hockey. The president of the Toronto Penguins, Stuart Hyman, is the centre of controversy over the cost of kids' hockey. Hyman, a Toronto real estate broker, has acquired interests in more than 70 teams from seven different hockey organizations in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) over the past five years. The unprecedented breadth of his influence in the league has triggered concern among league officials. Player fees on some Hyman teams are, on average, double those of their competitors. A survey of all 35 GTHL organizations that manage teams at the A and AA level found none with basic player fees as high as those of teams linked to Hyman ... The suit filed in Richmond Hill small claims court this past June in the name of the Toronto Penguins Midget A team demanded payments of between $600 and $996.50. It named each of the six 16- and 17-year old players as defendants along with their parents or guardians. The payments demanded were in addition to a $1,500 registration fee paid by parents at the start of the season. In statements of defence filed in September, the players and their families alleged the amounts requested were "excessive, exaggerated, frivolous and vexatious." And they alleged the players did not receive many promised benefits. Within 24 hours of the Star making inquiries about the suit last week, a letter was filed with the court dropping the action. The suit's original plaintiff was the Toronto Penguins organization, a minor hockey club with 13 teams this year at the A and AA levels in the GTHL. In September, the suit was amended to list Stephen Stern, the team's coach last year, as plaintiff. Stern did not respond to requests for an interview. In a written statement, Hyman, Penguins president and general manager, said the suit was filed by the team's coach without the knowledge of the organization. ... The lawsuit was the first time a GTHL team has sued players and their families, said league president John Gardner, who said he didn't know about the suit until informed by the Star last week. "It's an embarrassment to the club, it's an embarrassment to the league and it's an embarrassment to hockey," he said. The lawsuit followed a protracted dispute between the team and some parents. According to a proposed budget, each player was required to pay a basic registration fee of $1,599, covering a uniform, ice time for practices, league fees and so on. Parents were asked to contribute an additional $830 each for additional ice time and training. Then, in January, parents received an e-mail from Stern asking each family to pay an extra $1,300. "I couldn't believe it," said Donna MacDonald, who was named in the suit along with her husband, Stephen, and son, Andrew. "We don't owe anything and he couldn't show me that I owe him anything." Some of the parents refused to pay without seeing a detailed accounting of the team's finances. With several of the families refusing to pay, a lawsuit was filed in the name of the Penguins team alleging that after an "independent audit," the families each owed $966.50."

From hockey dad to hockey mogul. His influence over GTHL unmatched. Hyman's empire built in just 5 years,
by Robert Cribb and Lois Kalchman, Toronto Star, October 24, 2004
"In the 1982 Sir Sanford Fleming Secondary School yearbook, a graduating student named Stuart Hyman summarized his aspirations this way: "To be a dominant, powerful and persuasive public figure." Twenty-two years later, he's making it happen. In minor hockey circles, Hyman is the dominant figure in the country, with interests in nearly 100 teams of young players across southern Ontario. In the Greater Toronto Hockey League alone, Hyman has an interest in 18 AAA teams. He has control or influence over 52 of the league's 390 A and AA level teams. More than 1,500 players age 3 to 20 wear the colours of teams he controls or influences. And he has made financial offers Ñ reportedly reaching as high as $300,000 Ñ for control of other non-profit GTHL organizations whose directors declined the offers. In five years, Hyman has gone from just another hockey dad to a minor hockey mogul with unprecedented influence over the game. League insiders say he now has more power to chart the course of the world's biggest minor hockey league in contentious areas like higher registration fees and paid coaches than even the league itself. Basic player fees on some Hyman teams are double those of their competitors, leading to speculation that he might be profiting from non-profit clubs founded on volunteerism ... Hyman attended the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto and later Sir Sanford Fleming, where he says he was president of the boys athletic association ... Hyman hails from a family of successful professionals. His brother Scott is a lawyer. Another brother, Andrew, is a nephrologist, a medical doctor specializing in kidneys. A third brother, John, is in real estate and "made his first million before he was 18," Hyman told the Star in an interview last year. His father, Steve Hyman, heads Westmount Properties, a company developing a massive housing project in California ... League officials say they can't recall anyone ever having influence on more than two organizations at one time. Hyman is now involved with 10 organizations that manage 93 teams in the GTHL, Scarborough Hockey Association and Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League. "Buying and selling minor hockey teams wasn't done before now," says Hugh Ross, president of the Wexford Raiders. "They were trusts that were run for the benefit of the people of Toronto. Then all of a sudden someone got the bright idea that they might be worth money and they bought it. And the guy who bought the first team was Stuart Hyman" ... As he started to become known as a big-spending owner, he received a word of caution from league president John Gardner. "I used to say to him, `Don't go any further on this. You're going to make people nervous. You want to be able to run what you've got effectively,'" Gardner recalls. "I could read the feeling out there in the hockey market. People were getting very uncomfortable and he was going to dig himself into a hole." But Hyman went much further. Corporate filings show that Hyman has since become president and treasurer of the Toronto Aeros, director and president of the Leaside Kings and a director with the Scarborough Stallions and Weston Hawks, all of the GTHL. His wife Victoria is also listed as a director of the Leaside Kings and secretary of the Aeros. Hyman is president of the Hamilton Junior A Red Wings of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League. And he is a director of the Scarborough Malvern House League and the Scarborough Penguins, a group of four house league teams."

Holocaust researcher sheds light on family's dark days. German shares a hidden history,
by Peter Smith,
Louisville Courier-Journal, January 7, 2004
"For 60 years, Ilse Meyer of Louisville could only guess at the fate suffered by her parents and 12-year-old sister in the Holocaust. That they were killed, she had little doubt, but she did not know when, where or how. Neither the Red Cross nor any Holocaust-remembrance organization could tell her. Instead, a German man, born during World War II and haunted by his father's tales of vanished Jewish neighbors, dug through old records and eventually told Meyer what happened to her family. This week, Ernst Klein and his wife are visiting with Meyer in her Louisville condominium, part of an American trip that includes visits to other Jewish survivors from their shared hometown of Volkmarsen, Germany. He brought with him photos and other documents showing the work he has done to preserve the memory of Jews and of the Holocaust. "I think it's remarkable what he has done," said Meyer, 82. "I'm glad that I can light a candle and say a final prayer for my family. It puts closure on it."

The 55 year-old artist painted the portraits of 11 Holocaust survivors whom he had known since he was a child."

[JTR contributor comments, here. Our observation: The game below by this Jewish author is to portray the JEWISH "Russian" mafia (also see here) as Slavic Russians who are faking being Jewish. Unfortunately, despite this author's shell game, the name of Russian mafia thug Mikhail Solovey (using the fake "Jewish" name of Robert Stein) still ITSELF resonates as a solid JEWISH Russian name. Mikhail (Michael) is standard Jewish fare. And a quick Internet search of "Solovey" turns up a number of Russian Jews with that name and these are just a quick sampling: Mark Solovey, Yossele Solovey, A. Solovey, or Sam Solovey, wherein in the article about Sam it is declared that a "strong work ethic, along with knowing the importance of family and education, are some of the “Jewish values” that Solovey said his parents have instilled in him." The Jewish scam, as always, is to displace blame and responsibility. Jews are the saints, everyone else are the sinners.]
Russian Mafia Comes To Upstate New York,
by Eugene Girin, VDare, January 6, 2004
"Late last summer, residents of western New York found out that, thanks to flawed U.S. immigration policies the notorious Russian mafia had established a foothold in their region. Russian immigrant Robert Stein—real name is Mikhail Solovey—was arrested by federal agents at Buffalo Niagara International Airport while trying to flee the country. Solovey lived in America for ten years (his last residence was in East Amherst, New York, a suburb of Buffalo) and holds American citizenship (hopefully, not for much longer). He and another Russian immigrant, Serge Ivanov were indicted in New York and California for defrauding the federal government of almost $1.7 million dollars. Solovey is also accused of threatening a witness in Buffalo. Solovey and another Russian immigrant opened a computer training school in California. The school had no students and the defendants created fake student accounts and submitted fraudulent student loan applications to the Department of Education. In addition, the US authorities found out that Solovey was a member of a violent Russian gang, nicknamed the Kurganskaya. According to Russian authorities, Mikhail Solovey is a suspect in a kidnapping and murder committed in the Russian Federation in 1999. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Harvey said that Solovey is a dangerous man and the federal magistrate refused to release him on bail. The Solovey case demolishes the cheap "perfectly-law-abiding immigrant-entrepreneur" myth that is tirelessly peddled by the open borders lobby. But the case also shows the dangerous incompetence of American immigration authorities and the gross ineffectiveness of screening procedures applied to immigrants. Most likely, Solovey came to America to America by posing as a Jewish victim of Soviet anti-Semitism. This explains why he changed his name from the Slavic “Mikhail Solovey” to the Semitic “Robert Stein.” As I have outlined elsewhere, hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians used fraudulent documents to pose as Jews in order to get into the U.S and Israel. Dozens if not hundreds of them have turned out to be street thugs, outlaws, and even neo-Nazis (in Israel!) ."

[We hate"hate" too, the same as every decent person. Question: But what exactly is the "hate" that these "skins" believe in? It is never stated, except that it is "hate." In other words, the decision has been made for you what to think about them. We reserve judgment until we know what exactly they say. The fact the premiere nemesis that condemns them in this article is itself a representative of a Jewish "supremacist" agency leads us to wonder. Did these skinhead "haters" note in their "offensive" flyers that Israel is a violent, racist hellhole? Was that the "hate" they decreed? All "flyers" passed out by the Jewish Lobby that endorse apartheid Israel are as innately "hateful" as anyone else's. That the elitist Chosen People Lobby can denounce echoes of their own Israeli-centered ideology as "hate" is one of the major hypocrisies of our time.]
Police, others gear up for supremacist event,
by Aimee Clark, KATU 2 (Portland, OR),
"As a white supremacist group gears up to target Portland residents this weekend, anti-racist activists are fighting back. Members of the Tualatin Valley Skins are planning to meet this weekend in Gabriel Park to distribute leaflets and flyers, which some neighbors are not too happy about. "Obviously, it's not something I want in my neighborhood," neighbor Mark Bosch told KATU News. City leaders say it is legal for the Tualatin Valley Skins to distribute the leaflets and flyers, as long as the group does not incite violence. "We will be out there denouncing what these folks stand for," said Tom Potter, Portland's new mayor. "There will be a contingent of police to protect folks on both sides from any harm." "It is just horrible," says Emily Gottfried, who is a member of the American Jewish Committee. She says she is offended by flyers that promote hatred, so she is helping to organize a unity rally the same day in the same neighborhood. "Remember that only 60 years ago we Jews were experiencing something far, far worse than this and these were the kinds of images that were used then," Gottfried said about the flyers.

Daughter brings mother’s Holocaust stories to students,
by Kelly Bruss, Green Bay Press-Gazette, January 7, 2005
"Andrea Rabinovitz lost her mother in 1999 — but she’s determined that her mother’s stories about the Holocaust not be lost. “After being part of the German society and contributing members, all of the sudden they (Jews) were cut off,” Rabinovitz said Thursday. She told about 265 Parkview Middle School students that the descendants of Holocaust survivors have a responsibility to pick up stories where their parents left off so the world won’t forget. “This was a passion of my mother’s, to be able to talk to groups and tell what happened,” Rabinovitz said. She was invited to speak to eighth-grade students in conjunction with their study of the book “The Diary of Anne Frank.” “It’s a part of history they need to know,” said Jill Zelzer, an eighth-grade teacher who organized the session. ... Sometimes Glickman wondered if it was right to call herself a Holocaust survivor. But then another survivor with a similar story reminded her that she was here to tell about what had happened. “She was a witness to the evils that had gone on during this time,” Rabinovitz said."

German Cardinal Compares Abortion to Holocaust,
Deutsche Welle (Germany), January 7, 2005
"The arch-bishop of Cologne, Cardinal Joachim Meisner has attracted hefty criticism following his Epiphany sermon in which he compared the practices of abortion and euthanasia to the Holocaust. Addressing his congregation, Cardinal Meisner said "first there was Herod, who ordered the children of Bethlehem to be killed, then there was Hitler and Stalin among others, and today unborn children are being killed in their millions". President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Paul Spiegel fired back at the arch-bishop, slamming his statements as a insult to millions of Holocaust victims. In an interview with news agency dpa, Spiegel said that Meisner should "distance himself immediately from the unacceptable comparison." He added such statements have, in the past, forced public figures out of office. But a spokesman for the Cologne archbishopric defended the controversial sermon. "The Cardinal made a connection between abortion and major crimes in history. He did not denigrate the Jews, but denounced the crimes of Hitler and Stalin," he said. Inappropriate comparison The Green party in Berlin called for Meisner to apologise for insulting victims of the Holocaust and women in difficult existential emergency situations. Claudia Roth, co-president of the Greens environmentalist party which is in coalition with Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's Social Democrats, demanded an apology from Meisner. "He must apologise to those he has offended," Roth said."

[More bending history to Jewish satisfaction: the usual Judeocentric revisionism. An old art work depicting Christianity superseding Judaism is dictated by the Jewish Cabal to be "anti-Semitism." So what supersedes what in 2005? Judeocentric politics supersedes free speech and artistic vision, for sure. And Jewish Power (including the usual sycophants) bludgeons Christian doctrine at will. If Christianity does not consider that it has superseded Judaism, then it means the obvious: Christian doctrine has been rendered mush, and absorbed by its traditional nemesis.]
Public art, private prejudice. Two works of Christian art predating the Holocaust raise questions about whether they intentionally contributed to anti-Semitism,
by Christian Science Monitor, January 7, 2005
"At first glance, a 20th-century mural and a 12th-century altar cross have little in common. But the controversy each has provoked reaches back into old Christian dogma itself, casting light on the role such art may have played in fomenting anti-Jewish feeling. The Boston Public Library, site of the mural "Triumph of Religion," and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which acquired the cross as part of its medieval art collection, have approached their stewardship of these objects very differently. The decisions made offer a case study in dealing with controversial religious art. At issue is whether a public institution should display religious (in this case Christian) artwork that may malign or offend people of another faith. This question gathers intensity in light of the Holocaust. People today are far more conscious of the creeping effects of intolerance. Societies are also far more pluralistic than they were when John Singer Sargent began his mural or an unknown craftsman carved the ivory cross. Two works, one doctrine Begun in 1890 and left unfinished in 1919, Sargent's mural series in the library's Special Collections Hall incorporates a tradition that depicts Christianity as ascendant over Judaism. Though a casual visitor is likely to miss the significance of these images, one panel shows a vanquished Judaism - personified by the female figure of "Synagogue," a blindfolded old woman with a broken staff and her crown falling off - a common image in European Christian art. The panel caused a storm of protest from the Jewish community when it was unveiled in 1919; a vandal even threw ink on it. Three years later, the Massachusetts State Legislature passed a law to remove it, but the state's attorney general eventually declared the act unconstitutional. Sargent, dismayed, never completed the final panel of the Sermon on the Mount, which art historian Sally Promey says would have shown the "Triumph of Religion" as culminating in the ethical content of the sermon, thereby rendering the old Church/Synagogue imagery obsolete. As for the charges of anti-Semitism, Sargent told a Jewish publication, "My intent was not to harm anyone." At Sargent's death, the state Supreme Court granted the unpaid commission to the library rather than to Sargent's estate. The money was to have paid for maintenance of the murals, but over the intervening decades they deteriorated and were largely lost to public memory. Until two years ago, that is, when the Boston Public Library (BPL) decided to restore the Sargent murals as part of an extensive building renovation. The Special Collections Hall was reopened to the public in October. BPL president Bernie Margolis, who is Jewish, views the restoration as a means of confronting the anti-Semitism issue publicly. He was supported in this by a board of trustees that includes author and historian James Carroll, whose book "Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews, a History" may be the definitive study of relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the Jews. Mr. Carroll has challenged the church to remove from its teaching the doctrine of "supersessionism" that perceives Judaism as having been rendered obsolete by Christianity. This doctrine has been symbolized in almost two millenniums of Christian art - such as the Sargent panel - by the female figures of "Ecclesia" (Church) and "Synagoga" (Synagogue), with Church portrayed as triumphant and Synagogue depicted as progressively turned away from the figure of Christ - as bent, blindfolded, decrepit, or with the Torah scrolls upside down ... Pointing to the consequences of such teaching, panelist Adam Strom, of the educational program Facing History and Ourselves, said that the public today is in a better position since the Holocaust to judge the harm engendered by anti-Semitism than was the public in Sargent's day. Inscriptions in ivory The cross became a lightning rod of controversy for two reasons. First, the curator who acquired it in 1963 hid the fact that it was inscribed with derogatory references to Judaism and may have contributed to a pogrom against Jews at England's St. Edmundsbury cathedral in 1190. These facts would have been of great interest to the many Jewish supporters of the Met, not to mention its trustees. Second, the museum has chosen to play down the cross's anti-Semitic inscriptions in its display at the Cloisters, the Metropolitan Museum's medieval branch in Fort Tryon Park ... Of 100 inscriptions carved on the cross (quite a feat since it is only about two-feet tall) relating to Old Testament prophecy of the Messiah and its New Testament fulfillment, only two refer specifically to Judaism. One translates: "The Jews laughed at the pain of God dying," and the other: "Synagogue has collapsed with great foolish effort."

Amazon pulls anti-Semitic website review,
Expatica (Germany), January 7, 2004
"An anti-Semitic book review referring to rabbis "rolling in gold" has been posted on Amazon.com's German website in connection with a book on a World War II battle between the Soviet Red Army and Adolf Hitler's Wehrmacht. "The review will be removed as quickly as possible from our website," a company spokeswoman said on Friday. The company banned anti-Semitic and racist content from book reviews, said Christine Hoeger, spokeswoman for Amazon's German division. The Amazon customer review - dated 29 October 2004 - says the 1945 Battle of Halbe near Berlin was "the last act of a 30 year civil war in which the Christians (the British Empire) and the godless Jews plutocrats and Bolsheviks) allied to bomb the German speakers in the centre of Europe back into third class status." The reviewer, identified only as "kksspeer" from the German city of Celle, goes on to claim it is clear where this led following the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US. "(US President George W.) Bush and (Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon are standing at the gates of Baghdad. The crusade began in 1914 and found a preliminary end at the Israeli-Palestinian wall. Some rabbis are rubbing their hands and rolling in gold." The book reviewed is titled "Der Kessel von Halbe 1945" and describes the last major battle between the Red Army and German forces, about 40 kilometres south of Berlin, in which at least 22,000 people were killed. Freedom of speech in Germany - in contrast to countries like the US - has certain constitutional and legal limits, especially with regard to the Holocaust and Jews. Denying that the Holocaust took place is illegal and incitment of anti-Semitism can be prosecuted under the German Criminal code."

Central Asia Speaks: Soros Falls from Grace in Central
Asia
,
News Central Asia (Turkmenistan), January 7, 2005
"After Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan has also voiced concerns about the activities of SOROS Foundation. This completes the quorum. In rapid sequence, Uzbekistan kicked out SOROS, Kazakhstan issued a back-taxes notice that is likely to lead to closure of SOROS offices, President Askar Akayev of Kyrgzstan whipped SOROS for interfering in the society and President Imomali Rakhmanov of Tajikistan told his cabinet of ministers that he considered SOROS a destructive presence for the society. Why has the entire Central Asian region united against SOROS, a supposedly philanthropic organization engaged in grand and noble projects of absolutely the greatest possible value to the primitive and barbarian societies of Central Asia? Here are, very briefly, some of the reasons: One of the declared aims of Soros Foundation and its downstream organizations is to create ‘Civil Society’ in Central Asian nations. This noble intention is quite possibly based on the assumption that Central Asia is inhabited by barbarians and uncivilized creatures – ‘natives’ in short. While treating the Central Asian people as ‘uncivilized’ creatures and their societies as ‘uncivilized’ societies, it would be useful to remember that Central Asians have no genocide on their hands. Neither Jews nor Native Americans - ‘Red Indians’ of not long ago’ - came to the verge of extinction at the hands of Central Asian people. One must also not forget that while African Americans - is Nigger too embarrassing now? - were struggling for their basic rights, guests of any colour and religion were welcome in any Central Asian yurt. Then, as now, black, white, brown and yellow people broke bread in the same bowl in this uncivilized part of the world. The Silk Road never had a colour-coded social order. None of the Central Asian countries are civilized enough to subject their visitors to cavity search. People coming from different parts of the world are not photographed and fingerprinted on arrival. How uncivilized! ... Central Asian women, especially from rural areas, have the nasty habit of covering their bodies. This practice encroaches on the civil liberties of men. It is irritating to see that only hands and face are naked to the visible eye, I mean, visible to the naked eye. People cannot develop their full potentials in societies where acres and acres of female flesh are not exposed to the environment – and to the lusting eye ... The trouble is that like most things American, SOROS approach is based on a monochrome template: Black and while, American society and uncivilized society, democracy or dictatorship, with us or against us. The real world, the world where Central Asians live along with most other nations, is not a cheap joke of a bored God. It is not black and white. It is fully alive in all the colours that anyone can perceive or imagine. Asserting that there is only one acceptable model of democracy and that is American model and you better take it or we would shove it down your throats, saying that only a certain way of dressing and eating is acceptable in the civilized world and you must do it our way or we would force you to do it, propagating that regime change is the only medicine for all the ailments of a society, teaching that everything that exists must be demolished to build something else, chiding that nothing is right and everything is wrong,s is not really the most imaginative way of serving any people, least of all the Central Asian people who have a collective heritage of thousands of years of civilization.

CENTRAL ASIA: Soros Foundation to continue despite setbacks,
IRIN News, January 6, 2004
"The Soros Foundation has said it will continue its work in the region and has dismissed suggestions it was suffering from an image problem with the authorities in Central Asia, where three out of four of its country-based foundations have encountered difficulties in their operations. "I don't really feel it's a public relations problem. I can't really speculate on the nature of an authoritarian regime or its reactions," Laura Silber, senior policy adviser for the Soros Foundation and Open Society Institute (OSI), told IRIN from New York. Her comments follow a report by a Turkish newspaper that Tajik President Imomali Rahmonov had accused some organisations, and in particular the Soros Foundation, of acting to destroy Tajikistan's unity ... The text of the president's speech was published in Tajikistan's Minbari Khalk newspaper, claiming that the Soros Foundation supported subversive radio stations and newspapers such as Varorud, Odamu Olam and Ruzi Nav. He went on to say, "The aim of these mass circulation media is to destroy the Tajikistan administration," the 30 December Zaman report added. But according to Silber, the president later denied saying this, describing the report as "recycled" ... However, given recent events in the region, perhaps more concern is exactly what is needed. Just last month, a branch of the Soros Foundation in Kazakhstan was charged with tax evasion by the authorities. "It seems that the Kazakh government wants to close down the foundation," Dariusz Zietek, head of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan (SFK), told IRIN earlier from the commercial capital, Almaty, describing the event as politically motivated. According to Kazakh financial officials, a criminal investigation was opened against the US-based foundation funded by billionaire Hungarian-born financier George Soros, after nonpayment of some US $400,000 in back taxes it owned since 2001, plus some $200,000 in penalties ... In Uzbekistan, in April 2004, the Soros Foundation, which aims to promote open societies by shaping government policy and supporting education, media, public health, and human and women's rights, as well as social, legal and economic reform, was forced to close its operations after the Uzbek authorities refused to extend its registration, accusing it of trying to discredit the government's policies. Such incidents are hardly new for the international foundation, currently active in more than 50 countries worldwide. In 1998, the foundation was forced out of Belarus, allegedly for using funds to finance the Belarusian opposition, the BBC reported. Why the Soros Foundation might be facing difficulties in Central Asia is difficult to say. Some speculate that the authoritarian governments of the region might be concerned at the possibility of a Georgia-type revolution, a bloodless event in which some believe the Soros Foundation played a role. Following independence and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the five Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have been ruled by five autocratic leaders - none of whom have demonstrated any real desire to relinquish any control, making any real progress in the area of human rights, civil society and democratic reform next to impossible. But Silber adamantly denied any political agenda, stressing instead the foundation's desire to improve the welfare of the people in region. "The Soros Foundation is not funding any political or partisan activity. The foundations are not involved in pursuing any partisan or political activity," she claimed."

Four haredi Jews assault Armenian priest in J'lem,
by Etgar Lefkovitz, Jerusalem Post, January 6, 2004
"An Armenian priest was assaulted in Jerusalem's old city Thursday afternoon by four Jewish assailants, police said. The four haredi attackers, who spit on the priest, were arrested on the scene by police who were summoned to the area. The four suspects also scuffled with an Israeli security guard who tried to detain them before police arrived. The priest did not require medical treatment in the incident, which took place in the Armenian quarter of the old city. The attack was the second such incident in the last six months."

Iran TV: 'Evil' Jews stoning Christians. Fuels fears Tehran could pressure Jewish community if Israel, U.S. strike,
by Aaron Klein, World Net Daily, January 5, 2005
"A series currently broadcast on official Iranian television depicts "evil" Jews eagerly stoning crucified Christians during the decline of the Roman empire, leading some observers to believe Iran may use pressure tactics against its Jewish community if the U.S. or Israel takes action against Tehran's suspected nuclear facilities. The series, translated by Palestinian Media Watch and run on Iran's Sahar TV, is a fictionalized account of the Seven Sleepers, a Koranic story of seven Christian soldiers who hid in a cave to escape oppression and massacre by pagans during the rule of the Roman Emperor T. Decius (A.D. 240-251). The men slept, sealed in their hiding place, for 309 years before waking from the cave, believed to be in Turkey. Although the Koranic version contains no mention of Jews and specifically names Roman pagans as the oppressors, the Iranian series shows "stereotypically evil-looking Jews wearing prayer shawls who notice the crucifixions and bribe the Roman officer to permit them to stone the Christians," reports PMW ... Some worry the series may fuel long-standing fears within the Iranian Jewish community that the Iranian regime will make its 23,000-strong Jewish population a scapegoat if the U.S. or Israel increases pressure against the mullahs in response to their suspected nuclear program, recalling the 1999 arrest of 13 Iranian Jews charged with "spying" for Israel."

[Here's another awakening to the World Zionist Thought Police. The Jewish strategy of "rejecting dialogue" and intimidation is central to the massive cloak of censorship over us all. But by the same token, if the tenets of Zionism must be fairly open to public discussion and debate, why not also Jewish power, Jewish history, and the cores of Jewish identity?]
Guest Viewpoint: Wild accusations of anti-Semitism stoke fears, squelch debate,
by George Beres, The Register-Guard (Eugene, OR), January 5, 2005
"Eugene is a university town, so it's natural to ask: From what does ``academic freedom'' need to be protected? The threats always have been there, but never more pronounced than today, according to a Dec. 25 Associated Press article suggesting that higher education is facing a simultaneous effort by a loose coalition of attackers - conservative extremists, Christian fundamentalists and pro-Israel lobbyists. Many of us safe in the shelter of Oregon mistakenly identify such attackers as cranks. They supposedly are all "out there somewhere," as in the case of a discredited New York Post columnist, Daniel Pipes. He wrongly accused University of Oregon instructor Doug Card of teaching anti-Semitism in his sociology classes. I have awakened to the unhappy reality that Pipes clones are alive and flourishing in our midst. The Dec. 2 Register-Guard reported a settlement of Card's lawsuit against Pipes. I wrote Card not to congratulate him, but to commiserate about a result that served Pipes' purposes. Pipes and his fellow defendant, Jonathan Schanzer, changed their original criticism of Card, now saying, ``He does not condone extremism in the classroom.'' Yet Pipes exploited the propaganda value of the situation by getting Card to publicly condemn anti-Semitism, as if the professor harbored secret views to the contrary. He also got him to condemn professors who use their classrooms to promote anti-Semitism, as if that were some common cancer on the campus. What those public comments accomplished was to strengthen efforts to mislead the public about alleged anti-Semitism by college teachers. That fits with what I've observed of Pipes' efforts to create a culture of suspicion in society, stemming from instructions given nationwide for letters to the editor to be written labeling as anti-Semitic anyone who criticizes policies of Israel. I've observed a related controversy on the UO campus as a member of the Pacifica Forum, created to discuss issues of peace and its absence. We have met on or near the campus for more than a decade. Participation is open to all. A year ago, one of our guests went to our sponsor, the Wesley Foundation, accusing the forum of having anti-Semitic programs. The foundation asked us to find another location. Pacifica was given no opportunity to confront its accuser. The sponsor wished to risk no ``complications,'' and Pacifica had to leave. The forum returned to campus to meet on Fridays in the Erb Memorial Union, because the Survival Center generously gave nominal sponsorship to Pacifica. Within weeks, the accuser confronted the center's student board with the same groundless charges. The center reacted without exploring the validity of the complaint. When Pacifica was granted a brief meeting with the board, the students said their decision was based on a Pacifica exhibit pamphlet, which suggested that some Jews were guilty of self-victimization. Did Pacifica endorse that claim? Or was it in the exhibit to illustrate demonization of Jews, which Pacifica opposes? The Survival Center will never know, because it did not ask. It was reacting to intimidation. The facts made no difference. The Survival Center and the Wesley Foundation are well-meaning, and generous with sponsorship. There was no smallness on their part in evicting Pacifica Forum. But there was fear - fear of further pressure from a tiny minority that alleges discrimination even in the absence of provocation. That minority wields power through fear. The tactic is used with equal effectiveness by Christian fundamentalists whose growing control of the federal administration is a strange variety of churchly proselyting - converting a supposedly godless democracy into a theocracy. The strategy is to reject dialogue - a means fine-tuned by the propaganda of Pipes and his fellows who seek to insulate Israel from criticism from any source. Professor Card and the Pacifica Forum are among local victims of that panic-mongering. The true victim is freedom of expression made voiceless when attacked with the weapon of fear by those with self-serving motives. George Beres formerly worked as sports information director and later as editor of the faculty-staff newsletter and manager of the Speakers Bureau at the University of Oregon. He hosts a weekly Community TV program, ``In the Public Interest.''

HIZB UT-TAHRIR SPREADS ANTI-SEMITIC FLIERS IN UZBEKISTAN - USA,
UZ Report, January 6, 2004
"
The State Department released a Report on Global Anti-Semitism prepared for the House and Senate Foreign Relations committees on 5 January. Covering Uzbekistan, the report said: “Anti-Semitic fliers signed by Hizb ut-Tahrir have been distributed throughout the country; however, these views were not representative of the feelings of the vast majority of the population.” Jews generally are able to practice their religion in Uzbekistan, and there were no reports of verbal harassment, physical abuse, or desecration of monuments or cemeteries related to anti-Semitism. Respected Jewish community members report they feel very welcome in the country, the report added. The government of Uzbekistan promotes anti-bias and tolerance education in its eleventh grade history textbooks. The standardized textbook teaches students about the horrors of the Holocaust, the Nazis' anti-Semitic policy, extermination camps, and the number of Jews killed. In addition, Jewish organisations regularly conduct seminars on Holocaust and anti-Semitism awareness."

Study: Trip to Auschwitz helps students march to Jewish identity,
by Chanan Tigay, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, January 5, 2004
"A decade after taking part in the March of the Living, Bradley Laye still credits his experience with launching him along the path to a career in Jewish communal service. “The march was the thing that started it,” said Laye, now the CEO of Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach, Fla. “It was the seed for my Jewish involvement and love of Israel.” The program’s long-lasting effect on Laye is not unique, according to William Helmreich, the author of a newly released study on the annual program, which brings Jewish teenagers from across the globe to Auschwitz and then on to Israel. Indeed, said Helmreich, a sociology professor at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, “people who went to the march long ago report that even 12 years later, the march had a very, very powerful impact on them.” “The point of the program is to affect people’s lives, but many programs succeed and many fail,” he said. “What’s most impressive is the length of time of the effect.” Jewish educators concerned with the long-term effects of their programs use tools like the new march survey to gauge the effectiveness of their offerings. The new study, Long-Range Effects of the March of the Living on Participants, found that 94 percent of those who’ve gone on the program believe it is important that they marry a Jew ... The March of the Living, which has been running its trips since 1988, brings Jewish teenagers to Poland on Holocaust Remembrance Day to march from Auschwitz to nearby Birkenau, where the prisoners were actually gassed, followed quickly by a trip to Israel to mark the Jewish state’s Memorial Day and Independence Day ... Eighty-four percent of march participants, for example, said the program influenced their “thinking as a Jew.” Some 58 percent said it has affected their “behavior as a Jew.” The study also found that 45 percent of those who have taken part in the program have visited Israel since the trip. Thirty-two percent of those who’ve returned have done so three or more times, while 19 percent did so twice. “When you’re coupling the tremendous tragedy with the rebirth of Israel back to back, the impact becomes long lasting,” Machlis said. “It’s very, very powerful. You’re going from death and destruction to renaissance and rebirth.”

Library discussion series focuses on Jewish literature,
by Beth Hendricks, The Herald-Dispatch, January 6, 2004
"The library is one of those places -- like church or a physician’s waiting room -- where you’re expected to keep quiet. Beginning Sunday, however, they’re turning over a new leaf -- hoping people will get together and "talk about it." At 2 p.m. Sunday, the free, five-part reading and discussion series, "Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature -- Identity and Imagination" will begin at the Cabell County Public Library, focusing on "A Mind of Her Own: Fathers and Daughters in a Changing World." The program is presented by Nextbook and the American Library Association. All books for the series are available for loan at the library. We had to apply to do this program and were one of about 200 libraries nationwide selected," said library director Judy Rule. "We hope this program will generate an enthusiasm, help people regain some enthusiasm for reading for pleasure."

Atheist Joins Others to Sue Over Pledge,
Earthlink (from Associated Press), January 5, 2005
"An atheist who sued because he did not want his young daughter exposed to the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance has filed another lawsuit - this time with other parents. Michael Newdow won his case more than two years ago before a federal appeals court, which said it was an unconstitutional blending of church and state for public school students to pledge to God. In June, however, the Supreme Court dismissed the case, saying Newdow could not lawfully sue because he did not have custody of his elementary school-aged daughter and because the girl's mother objected to the lawsuit. In the latest challenge filed Monday in Sacramento federal court, eight co-plaintiffs have joined the suit, and all are custodial parents or the children themselves, Newdow said. The plaintiffs' names have been withheld from the lawsuit. "It's because of the potential adverse impacts of having your name on a case like this. That's why they are not named," Newdow said Wednesday. He had promised to refile when the Supreme Court dismissed his case this summer. "I want this decided on its merits," said Newdow, a doctor and a lawyer, who again is the attorney in the latest pledge case."

[Predator of catastrophic suffering for dollars ... Gue$$ who?]
Wave Rat,
New York Post, January 3, 2004
"A woman who donated a coveted Web site address to what she thought was a fund-raising organization for tsumani victims claims she was scammed by a college student who tried to sell the domain for $50,000. Michelle Tirado, of Southbury, Conn., said she was shocked to see the domain for sale on eBay - after she gave it away, thinking it would be used to raise money for victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunamis that killed nearly 150,000 in Southeast Asia last week. "I'm just shocked," said Tirado, 38, a free-lance journalist. "This is not right. I would never have given that to him if I knew in advance he was going to sell it." As charity coffers worldwide begin to fill with billions of dollars in the wake of the catastrophe, relief-agency and law-enforcement officials said ghouls and scam artists are wasting no time cashing in on the calamity. Officials said they have not busted anyone yet for relief-fund fraud, but expressed doubts about the growing number of Internet sites and individual fund-raisers allegedly raising money for victims. Tirado admits she registered the name tsunamirelief.com with the idea of turning a profit herself — until the death toll began to climb. But even before she had a change of heart, her asking price was only $99. Tirado said she donated the site to Canadian college student Josh Kaplan. Kaplan allegedly tracked down Tirado, claiming to represent "Tsunami Relief International," and said it was a nonprofit — even though no such nonprofit exists. He told her he and other designers would create a Web site to collect donations. "Of course, I am doing this for nonprofit, so I won't be able to pay you for the site," Kaplan wrote in the e-mail obtained by The Post. "It would be an extremely generous donation to the cause if you do decide to donate it." Tirado transferred the domain name to him, but instead of seeing him solicit funds with the site, she was shocked that he put it up for sale on eBay — with a starting bid of a staggering $50,000."

FRENCH STUDENT EXPELLED FOR AUSCHWITZ COMMENTS,
The Toqueville Connection, January 4, 2005
"A French secondary school student has been expelled after making anti-Semitic remarks on a trip to the extermination camp at Auschwitz, school authorities said Tuesday. The unnamed boy, who attended a lycee in the Paris suburb of Montreuil, said "They did well to burn them" a propos of the Nazi holocaust, the school head Michele Amiel said. Five other pupils received lesser punishments for "inappropriate behaviour." "By laughing, making anti-Semitic remarks, taking photographs of each other making obscene gestures, mocking a site which is heavy with the history of anti-Jewish inhumanity, the pupils have profaned this symbolic place of memory," said the National Office for Vigilance against Anti-Semitism."

Israeli Holocaust pilgrims hire Polish strippers,
Irish Examiner, November 19, 1999
"Israeli high school students hired strippers and got drunk in a hotel during an educational tour of Nazi death camps in Poland, prompting dismay in Israel, a country that gave refuge to 300,000 Holocaust survivors. Educators and politicians engaged in soul searching yesterday. ‘‘The strippers in Poland uncovered a problem here in Israel and we have to deal with it by education,’’ said Education Minister Yossi Sarid. School trips to former Nazi camps, including Auschwitz, have become a rite of passage for Israeli high school students. Thousands have made the trip in the past 12 years. Most of the six million Jews who perished in the Nazi genocide were killed in death camps in Nazi occupied Poland. The group that invited the strippers - a woman for the boys, a man for the girls - to their Warsaw hotel rooms is from Ofek High School in the western Galilee. One of the students from Kibbutz Evron, said she didn’t know what all the fuss was about. ‘‘It was a very marginal incident in the trip and it’s a pity it’s being blown up out of all proportion,’’ she said."

[Switzerland bends to Jewish/Zionist will in the usual Western style: "Thou shalt not draw attention to Jews in anything less than a laudatory manner. lest ye face DEMANDS for heads by the Jewish Lobby."]
Swiss Jews furious at report warning of violent extremism,
by Ian Traynor, The Guardian (UK), January 5, 2004
"Switzerland's small Jewish community is in uproar over a government report which describes some Jewish youth as armed radicals and talks of the possibility of "violent extremism" by some Swiss Jews. The country's main Jewish organisation is calling for the contentious passages to be cut from the report and for a meeting with the justice minister, a Swiss nationalist, to demand an explanation for the allegations which it denounces as "false," "outrageous," and "perhaps made in bad will". The deputy head of the domestic intelligence service has had to apologise for its report and order the deletion of references to some Jewish students in Geneva as armed radicals.
But Swiss Jewish leaders remain angry that the amended version of the annual report from the Swiss domestic intelligence service, on the risks of political violence and extremism, retains claims that "violent anti-semitic acts could lead to vigilantism and violent Jewish extremism". The original report released last August said: "Jewish political extremism manifests itself in the conduct of associations fighting for the Zionist cause." It singled out an association of Jewish students in Geneva. "Some of the young members are armed. They belong to a security agency and attend every event in the Jewish community. At the moment there is no evidence of links between these groups and the Kahane-Hai terror group." These claims stoked fury among the small Jewish community of around 18,000 in a country of almost 8 million. The passage was deleted and an apology made. Alfred Donath, president of the Federation of Swiss Jewish Communities, is demanding, however, that all references to alleged Jewish extremism in Switzerland be dropped. "Jews in Switzerland are outraged," he told the Zurich newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung. "There is no Jewish extremism here ... the accusation of extremism is utterly false." Mr Donath said synagogues and other Jewish institutions had private armed security guards posted around them "here and there, because regrettably the state is unable to guarantee our safety ... it is completely legal". Mr Donath and other community leaders are expecting to meet the justice minister, Christoph Blocher, in a fortnight to demand an explanation and to urge him to have the report revised for the second time. Mr Blocher is the leader of the nationalist Swiss People's party, which campaigns on an anti-immigration platform. While Mr Donath said there had been no let-up in anti-semitism in Switzerland in recent times, he was sanguine about the dangers of anti-semitism from Switzerland's Muslim minority. "Of course, it wasn't Islam that caused the Shoah [Holocaust]," he noted."

Anti-Semitism Rising, State Dept. Says
,
by Barry Schweid, Yahoo! News, January 4, 2005
"A rise in the number of Muslims in Western Europe, many of them poor and uneducated, is contributing to an increase in deeply rooted anti-Semitism there, the State Department said in a report to Congress. Far-right groups still account for a significant proportion of attacks on Jews and Jewish property, the report said. In eastern Europe, skinheads and other members of the radical political fringe are responsible for most anti-Semitic incidents, according to the report, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press. In Russia, Belarus and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union, anti-Semitism remained a serious problem, with most incidents carried out by ultra-nationalists and other far-right elements, according to the report. "The stereotype of Jews as manipulators of the global economy continues to provide fertile grounds for anti-Semitic aggression," said the report to the Senate and House foreign relations committees. Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif., who pushed for annual State Department reports and for close monitoring through a new office in the department, welcomed the first global report on anti-Semitism. "It is only a beginning," said Lantos, the senior Democrat on the House committee. "The department must act quickly to appoint an advocate of substantial rank and experience to coordinate our government's response to the current outbreak of anti-Semitic violence .. There are dwindling Jewish populations in North Africa and the Middle East, except for Israel, and there are few incidents involving Jews who remain in those areas. But Syria condones and supports "a virulent domestic anti-Semitism" as government-supported media demonize Israel and its leaders, the report said. Beyond Europe and the Middle East "there are also worrying expressions" of anti-Semitism, the report said. In Pakistan, where there is no Jewish community, anti-Semitic sentiment fanned by press articles is widespread, the report said. Anti-Semitism where there are virtually no Jews is a recent phenomenon, the State Department told Congress ... Contributing to the trend, the report said, is a rising Muslim population with "long-standing antipathy toward both Israel and Jews" as well as developments in Israel, the occupied territories and Iraq. In Europe and other regions of the world, many governments have become increasingly aware of anti-Semitism and have spoken against it. Countries such as France, Belgium and Germany have taken effective measures to combat anti-Semitism and have increased protection for Jewish communities and Jewish properties, the report said ... "It is forthright in recognizing the changing nature and threat of anti-Semitism, its connection, and its virulent demonization of Israel and Zionists," Foxman said in a statement. And, he said, the United States is more direct in linking anti-Semitism to an increase in Muslim extremists in Europe and not to the Arab-Israeli conflict."

ADL Welcomes State Department Report on Anti-Semitism; Calls for Reporting and Monitoring Standards,
U.S. Newswire, January 5, 2--4
"
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded a State Department report surveying anti-Semitism around the world. The report was mandated by the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act, sponsored by Sen. George Voinovich (R- Ohio), and a group of House members led by Reps. Tom Lantos (D- Calif.) and Christopher Smith (R-N.J.). Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director, issued the following statement: "We applaud the United States for its leadership in recognizing that anti-Semitism is a serious and growing problem and for addressing it as manifested today. Too often it has been politically unpopular to talk about anti-Semitism. We commend the State Department and our embassies around the world who acknowledge the changing nature and threat of anti-Semitism and its connection with virulent demonization of Israel and Zionism. "America's human rights advocacy and monitoring have been singular in importance and effectiveness. Having set benchmarks in this report, we look forward to the appointment of the new U.S. Special Envoy on anti-Semitism, as well as follow-up in U.S. human rights and religious freedom monitoring efforts."

Christian Defense Coalition Objects to Secret Service Prohibition of Public Display of Crosses at Inauguration Parade on January 20,
U.S. Newsire, January 2005
"News Advisory: The Secret Service prohibits the public display of crosses at the Presidential Inauguration Parade on January 20th. The Secret Service issued this prohibition in a December 17th, 2004 letter sent to the National Park Service and included it in an approved demonstration permit application sent to the Christian Defense Coalition on December 23rd. (To see the letter go to http://www.earnedmedia.org/permit.htm) The Christian Defense Coalition was granted a permit to hold a prayer vigil and demonstration at the Inauguration Parade. The group calls the banning of the crosses, at the Inauguration, rank religious discrimination and censorship in its worst form. The Coalition will hold a news conference at Thursday, January 6th, at 11:30 A.M. to discuss their plans regarding this matter. The news conference will be held at the corner of 4th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW in front of the Canadian Embassy. This is also the location of where they will conduct their prayer vigil and demonstration during the Inauguration Parade. Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "By prohibiting the public display of crosses at the Inauguration Parade, the Secret Service has trampled the First Amendment and crushed religious freedom in the public square. Simply put, it is religious bigotry and censorship. It is even more troubling when one realizes that it is only Christian symbols that have been excluded from the Inauguration Parade. We also want to make it clear that we will be on the public sidewalks holding crosses at the Inauguration Parade even if that means risking arrest and jail. The First Amendment should be celebrated at this Inauguration...not crushed."

[This is what you call chutzpah -- unmitigated Jewish gall. Even as the pro-Israel lobbying organization, AIPAC, is under investigation by the FBI for spying, the equally Zionist Anti-Defamation League declares that a MUSLIM group be "designated a foreign terrorist organization." Hey, ADL. Take a look in the mirror and start emptying your pockets. The Jewish Lobby is obsessed with swallowing up what used to be an American free society. Hezbollah is in a war with the ADL's beloved, Israel, not the U.S.]
ADL Calls for Hezbollah TV to be Designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by U.S.,
U.S. Newsire, January 2005
"Indicating that a "direct and indisputable" link exists between the terrorist group Hezbollah and the satellite network Al-Manar, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today urged the United States government to designate the Lebanese television network as a foreign terrorist organization. In letters to Secretary of State Colin Powell and Treasury Secretary John Snow, ADL noted that even with the recent listing of Al-Manar on the State Department's Terrorist Exclusion List, the station may still have the ability to openly solicit funds for Hezbollah and have business dealings with American companies. Barbara B. Balser, ADL National Chair and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, said that, "as a non-military wing of a terrorist organization, Al-Manar should be subject to the same restrictions as Hezbollah."

Will Administration Cover Up A Major Israeli Spy Scandal?,
by Sam Francis, V-Dare, January 3, 2004
"
Last summer a flurry of press reports disclosed the FBI's investigation of a man named Larry Franklin who works in the Defense Department under neo-conservative policy chief Douglas Feith. The supposed reason for the investigation was espionage for Israel. The neo-con buddies of Mr. Feith and Israel sounded off about the anti-Semitism that was obviously driving the witchhunt, and the reports soon faded from the press. Now they're back, at least partly, but the focus of the probe no longer seems to be Mr. Franklin. The focus is AIPAC—the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the principal arm of what is generally (but not too loudly) called the "Israeli lobby." On Dec. 1, the FBI raided the Washington offices of AIPAC and subpoenaed four of its top officials. This time almost no one paid any attention except the Jewish Times and the Forward, which have carried some very good accounts of what's going on. What is going on is important for several reasons, in addition to the usual interest in spy stories. Not the least of what's interesting is that Israel and its friends are supposed to be allies of the United States, not spies on it. Defenders of Israel will say (as they said back when Jonathan Pollard was nabbed for espionage for Israel in the 1980s) that friendly countries spy on their friends all the time. Well, maybe they do, but I've never heard of it in recent decades .. As for AIPAC, the original interest in the case was that Mr. Franklin was supposed to have met with AIPAC officials and an Israeli intelligence agent and handed over classified documents. What that might mean is that Mr. Franklin was not acting for himself but for his boss, Mr. Feith, or Mr. Feith's boss, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, both of whom are known to be very pro-Israeli. And what that might mean is that the whole neo-conservative cadre in the Pentagon is and has been all along an Israeli espionage operation ... More recently, the Forward reported that Mr. Franklin may have been acting as a provocateur for the FBI in a sting operation, that the target was never (or is no longer) Mr. Franklin but AIPAC itself—as "an unregistered agent of a foreign power," namely Israel. AIPAC, it's hardly a secret, zealously and faithfully defends Israel, but it does so ostensibly as the representative of American supporters of Israel, not as the agent of Israel itself. If in fact it is taking orders from the Israeli government, it has a problem. To act as an agent of a foreign power without registering as such with the government just happens to be a very serious federal felony in this country. Many foreign agents avoid such legal problems by registering. AIPAC doesn't. As the Forward commented last week, "registering as a foreign agent would require AIPAC to provide significantly more detailed information about its aims and activities to the government—thereby robbing the group of a key weapon, the ability to operate behind the scenes." But, also according to the Forward account, Mr. Franklin, as part of the FBI's sting operation, "was involved in initiating contact with some neoconservative defense experts, several of them Jewish, who supported Ahmad Chalabi, president of the Iraqi National Congress. Chalabi had deep ties to Bush administration officials." [See here or here] There's a grand jury investigation of AIPAC going on right now, yet despite what has been a long-term investigation by the federal government, President Bush addressed an AIPAC meeting last May, and Condoleeza Rice addressed an AIPAC affiliate in Florida in October. That might suggest there's no fire behind the FBI's smoke. Then again, it might also mean this administration is simply determined to smother the fire before its flames burn up some of its key officials."

[The extremely wealthy and dedicated Jewish Lobby is relentless in scheming towards weakening those it postures as its enemies. How do you "better the relationship" with Jews? Take their orders. Firstly, censor any criticism of Jews ("anti-Semitism.")]
Hopes of ending discrimination take area man to the Vatican,
by DANTE DELVECCHIO, Times Herald, January 3, 2004
"Israel Roizman's work with the Anti-Defamation League has taken him across the world and brought him into the company of many sharing his hopes of a world free of discrimination. A few weeks ago, he sat with the leader of the Catholic Church so they could work to improve relations between the two religious organizations. Roizman, a member of the ADL's International Board of Directors, and his delegates met with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican on Dec. 17, to discuss their thoughts on bettering that relationship."We're trying to do what's right," Roizman, of Lafayette Hill, said. "It's not only about anti-Semitism with Jews, but we're dealing with a lot of discrimination." Joining Roizman and the pope was ADL National Director Abraham Foxman, who recounted the story of how a Polish Catholic woman saved his life during the Holocaust when she forged documents to spare him being taken to Nazi concentration camps, Roizman said regarding the "incredible meeting." He added that the pope in turn shared his own thoughts on hopes of seeing an eradication of racism. The group requested the personal meeting with the pope at the end of a two-day symposium the pope attended with other members of the league in Rome. The conference, jointly sponsored by the ADL, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian newspaper Il Fogilo, brought the delegates together to discuss the problem of anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination, Roizman said. Roizman and his fellow board members also attend other conferences throughout Europe and the rest of the world, as well as here in the United States, during the year."We are working to correct the different mistakes that have happened over the years," Roizman said. "You can see the changes already."

[This guy Imus apparently gets in trouble for plenty, but this time he's got an ounce of courage. Joining the world Jewish Thought Police Posse and trashing Arabs and Muslims is easy. There's no risk in it because Jews are so incredibly powerful and Muslims weak. But saying anything negative about the media puppet masters, and actually using the "J" word, and still keeping your job, is quite another story.]
Don Imus in hot water over Jewish remark,
Big News Network, January 6, 2005
"Syndicated New York radio host Don Imus has refused to acknowledge a complaint from the Anti-Defamation League for a remark he made about Jews. ADL chief Abraham Foxman told the New York Post he was deeply troubled when Imus referred to the publishers of the Mary and Carol Higgins Clark holiday film The Christmas Thief as thieving Jews and then reportedly went further, adding, I apologize ... I realize that's redundant. Tuesday on his WFAN show, which is also simulcast on cable's MSNBC, Imus complained to his listeners about the letter. Leave me alone, Jesus, God, Imus said. Go after people who are actually doing something wrong. Imus said he had written a two-word response across the face of the letter and sent it back, but didn't disclose the message."
