ANTI-SEMITISM, pt. 7

[Attention: ALL non-Jews are hidden "anti-Semites," as all Jews are certain.]
Martha Stewart may not like you,
yada yada yada blog (Jewsweek), October 24, 2003
"Martha Stewart's legal troubles don't seem to be getting any better. She was hit with a barrage of lawsuits recently, one of which was a religious discrimination suit filed by an irate Jewish former employee who claims he was wrongfully terminated. Avner Elizarov, a software employee who joined Martha Stewart Omnimedia in June 2002, began running into problems when he became more religiously observant and began wearing a yarmulke. The suit says his supervisor started making "anti-Semitic remarks to him." It claims the situation worsened when Elizarov asked to take vacation time during Passover and his boss told him "Jewish people like to stay home and do nothing ... I would like to give you [a] vacation for the rest of your life." A vacation? Anyone who's celebrated Passover knows it's no vacation."

[Smearing critics of Jewish racism, neurosis, and power as "anti-Semites" is both a Jewish cottage industry and pillar of the community. Calling the Jewish American community "oppressed" is like trying to stuff a hippopotamus into an ant hill. And "embracing Jews" takes no moral effort whatsoever because the rewards for those who kiss Jewish Butt are so omnipresent. "Embracing Jews" is like embracing your wallet.]
Allies against anti-Semitism. Jews, others parley over prejudice on the left,
by Alexandra J. Wall, Jewish News Weekly, August 27, 2004
"Cherie Brown was a college student at UCLA in the ’60s, when ethnocentric pride was in vogue. As the progressive Jewish activist went knocking on doors of the various ethnic organizations, trying to build alliances, doors slammed in her face. “I am here because I’m committed to ending racism, but anti-Jewish oppression diverts this work over and over again,” said Brown. A longtime activist in the progressive Jewish community, Brown relayed those thoughts to about 300 people gathered in a conference room at the Oakland Marriott on Saturday afternoon, as part of the opening panel for “Facing a Challenge Within: A Progressive Scholars’ and Activists’ Conference on Anti-Semitism and the Left.” The three-day conference, organized by Judy Andreas of Richmond, a non-Jew who is writing a dissertation on the topic, brought together a diverse crowd of concerned activists, both Jewish and not. For example, Victor Lewis, a dreadlocked African American who identified as a “pro-Semite, shamefaced Judeophile,” said even though he was raised in the black underclass, he identified with Jews as “hyper-intellectual,” and “hyper-literate.” Lewis made the point that because views about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are so polarized, most people have compassion only for one side. “If this is true, there is no hope for the human family,” he said. Gina Waldman, a Tiburon resident who co-founded JIMENA, Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa, had the audience saying one of her frequently repeated lines: “Hate is a weapon of mass destruction.” Andreas decided to organize such a conference when she got a difficult time from her own academic institution over her plan to do her doctoral thesis on anti-Semitism on the left. After overcoming several hurdles, she is currently in the middle of the dissertation. If Andreas thought the conference was necessary, so did the many attendees, who came from diverse parts of the country. Lucia Jimeno, a Latina from Brooklyn, N.Y., works for a New York-based national organization called GLSEN, the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network. “As progressive and as forwardly thinking individuals, a lot of times we don’t make the connection between anti-Semitism and other forms of oppression,” Jimeno said. Eryn Kalish, president of the Compassionate Listening Project, which brings delegations of people to the Middle East to hear views from all sides of the conflict, came from Seattle to conduct two workshops. Kalish had to serve as a mediator at times when things got heated. “I’ve been saying since the last intifada that the world needs to embrace both peoples rather than rejecting either,” said Kalish, adding that attending the conference “was one of the ways people who were not Jewish were coming forward to embrace Jews.” While there were some difficult moments at the conference, two women who participated in a panel called “Bridging Mainstream Jewish Groups and Jewish Activists” had positive things to say. “What the left has to offer is process, and the level of dialogue and manner in which people handled really difficult subjects was really impressive,” said Rachel Canar, associate director of the regional office of the New Israel Fund. And Abby Michelson Porth, who as associate director of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Relations Council, had the difficult task of representing the mainstream Jewish community at the conference, was asked some tough questions, but she was still upbeat about what she saw. “As moved as I was by Judy’s initiative and motivation and compassion and hard work, I was equally moved that there are so many Jewish progressives who want to play a part in eliminating anti-Semitism from leftist activism,” Porth said."

[There's lots of Jews "crying wolf" lately (note also the Jew who burned down a Jewish soup kitchen in France, garnering the same kind of Jewish communal breast-beating about resurgent "anti-Semitism"). This criminal here, Kerri Dunn, so eager to cash in on "anti-Semitism" to fuel her academic career, was a recent convert to Judaism.]
Hate-crime hoax perpetrator found guilty,
Jewish News Weekly, August 27, 2004
"A California jury found a psychology professor guilty of perpetrating a hate-crime hoax by vandalizing her own car with racist and anti-Semitic graffiti. On Aug. 19, a Los Angeles County Superior Court jury in Pomona found Kerri Dunn, then an assistant visiting professor at Claremont McKenna College, guilty of filing a false police report and attempted insurance fraud, which is punishable by up to 3½ years in prison. When the apparent hate crime was initially reported on March 9, the Claremont McKenna campus and Jewish communities reacted with outrage, staging day-long sit-ins, teach-ins, forums and rallies. During the trial, the jury was not asked to decide whether Dunn had vandalized her own car, but rather if she had filed false reports with the police and her insurance company. After the guilty verdict, Gary Lincenberg, Dunn’s attorney, said that he intended to appeal the verdict because the judge had barred crucial evidence. Sentencing is set for Sept. 17. As student president of the Hillel Council, D’ror Chankin-Gould, 20, had been one of the organizers of the early anti-racism protests. Dunn’s conviction, he said, “doesn’t change the fact that we did the right thing. We responded vigorously to an anti-Semitic slur and we can be proud of that.” Amanda Susskind, the regional Anti-Defamation League director, noted that “Fake hate crimes undercut what we do, they represent a kind of secondary victimization. We did get some letters saying, ‘You Jews made it all up.’"

[Is telling the truth "anti-Semitism?" Apparently yes. Here's yet another in the endless parade of irrational "anti-Semites" -- this one from Greece.]
The Jewish problem, according to Theodorakis,
By Ari Shavit, Haaretz (Israel), August 30, 2004
[Interview with famed Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis] "Question: Mr. Theodorakis, on November 4, 2003 you said in this house the words that shocked Jews and non-Jews across the world. You said that the Jewish people are at the root of evil. What did you mean? Answer: "For me the root of evil today is the policy of President Bush. It is a fascist policy. I cannot understand how is it that the Jewish people, who have been the victims of Nazism, can support such a fascist policy. No other people in the world support those policies but Israel! This situation saddens me. I am a friend of Israel. I am a friend of the Jewish people. But the policy of Sharon and the support for the policy of Bush darkens the image of Israel. I am afraid that Sharon is going to lead the Jews - just as Hitler led the Germans - to the root of evil." Even today, 10 months later, you don't think you made a mistake when you uttered those words? "No, but it's important for me to emphasize that I never said that the Jews are the root of evil. I said they are at the root of evil." So you have no regrets? "No. And I was very much hurt by the Jewish reaction to what I said. It was not a civilized reaction. I got hundreds and hundreds of poisonous e-mails from Jews all over the world. I couldn't understand this hatred toward me. I fought against racism all my life. I was for Israel. I wrote "Mauthausen." After all that, how could I become from one day to the next an anti-Semite?" Let me explain to you the context for this reaction. Many Jews have a renewed fear of Europe. We are afraid that there is a new kind of anti-Semitism in Europe. So when you said what you said there was a feeling of thou too, Brutus. There was a feeling that even our old friend Theodorakis turned against us. "I don't believe there is anti-Semitism in Europe. There is a reaction against the policy of Sharon and Bush. I think it's artificial to think there is a new anti-Semitism. It's an excuse. It's a way to avoid self-criticism. Rather than ask themselves what is wrong with the policy of Israel, Jews say the Europeans are against us because of the new anti-Semitism. Because they don't love us. And even Theodorakis says we are at the root of evil. This is a sick reaction." Why? In what way is it a sick reaction? "Because this kind of reaction is relevant to the psychopathology of the Jewish people. They want to feel victims. They want to have this comforting feeling. We are in the right, we are again victims. Let's create another ghetto. It's a masochistic reaction." The Jews are masochists? "There is psychological masochism in the Jewish tradition." Is there sadism as well? "I'm certain that when Diaspora Jews talk among themselves, they feel satisfied. They feel that now, when we are so close to the greatest power in the world, no one can do anything to us. We can do whatever we like. This is why the claim of new anti-Semitism is not only a sick reaction, it's a sly reaction as well." In what way is it sly? "Because it really allows the Jews to do whatever they want. Not only psychologically, but also politically, it gives the Jews an excuse. The sense of victimhood. It gives them a license to hide the truth. There is no Jewish problem in Europe today. There is no anti-Semitism" ... Do you think the Jews are fanatic? "Something that is very negative can also be positive. If the Jews didn't have fanaticism, they wouldn't have existed. There is no evil without good. The Jews need this fanaticism. What one might call Jewish fanaticism has more to do with self-defense. It was through their religion that Jews were interconnected and kept together." You seem to be fascinated by the Jews. Why? "To be a community that disregards all dangers and remains true to its origins - that's a mystery. Look at France, for example. There is a huge community of Jews in France where there is a great civilization. But do the Jews become French? No. They speak the French language perfectly. They succeed in their work. But they are not French. They always think of going back to Jerusalem." So there is something unique about the Jewish way of existence? "It's a metaphysical phenomenon. It cannot be explained." In your opinion, what is it that holds us Jews together? "It is the feeling that you are the children of God. That you are chosen." Do you think Jews have a feeling of superiority because of this intimate relationship with God? "There is that element too. Not all Jews have it. But very religious Jews do." Is there something a bit arrogant and aggressive about the Jews? "Yes." Do you see in Sharon's Israel an expression of that element of the Jewish psyche? "No, I wouldn't say that. But this question of superiority is not just a feeling. Because in the Jews' battle for self-defense they became distinguished. There are 200 Jews who won Nobel prizes. Christ, Marx and Einstein were Jewish. The Jews offered so much to science, art and music. They hold world finance in their hands. So it's only natural that they would see themselves as very strong. This gives them a feeling of superiority." The Jews have international finance in their hands? "They control a great deal of the world's finances." So today's globalized capitalism is controlled very much by the Jews? "Since we speak frankly, I will tell you something else. The Jewish people control most of the big symphonic orchestras in the world. When I wrote the Palestinian national anthem, the Boston Symphony was planning a production of my work. It is controlled by Jewish people. They didn't allow the concert to go on. Since then I cannot work with any great orchestra. They refuse me." You ran into this problem with other orchestras too? "Wherever there are Jews. Wherever there are orchestras controlled by Jewish people, they boycott my work." You really feel Jews control much of the music world? "Yes." And the same applies to world finance? "In America the Jewish community is very strong. It controls much of the economy. Certainly the mass media. "Let me make myself clear: When the State of Israel was established, we were on the side of Israel. There was great sympathy toward Zionism because of what they suffered in the war. This is one side of the Jews. But the international Jewish community is also a negative phenomena. The Jewish people now appear to control the big banks. And often the governments. So whatever bad or evil comes from the governments, it's natural for ordinary people to associate that with the Jewish people." You yourself think that the Jews, the international Jewish community, have control of the banks, Wall Street, the mass media? "Yes." And you say that now, through its influence on Bush, it has control of world affairs? "Yes." What is the Jewish influence on the Bush policy? "I believe that the war in Iraq and the aggressive attitude toward Iran is greatly influenced by the Israeli secret services." The Jews have so much power that they can direct the policy of the world's only superpower? "There is a group of Jews who surround Bush and control the policy of the United States." So the Jews pull the strings behind Bush? "No. They are in the front." America, the great superpower, is actually controlled today by the Jews? "Yes." What are the intentions of the Jews who control President Bush? "The main front is the Arabs. They believe that by hitting the Arabs they could help Israel survive. They give a military solution to the problem of the future existence of Israel."

ADL irked by prize for Theodorakis,
By HILARY LEILA KRIEGER, Jerusalem Post, September 2, 2004
"The International Olympic Committee's decision to award controversial Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis the Olympiart prize this week has provoked outrage from some corners of the Jewish community. "It is incomprehensible that the International Olympic Committee has conferred a prize that recognizes values of harmony and peace on an unrepentant anti-Semite who makes no apologies for his views," declared Abraham H. Foxman, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League. "The awarding of the Olympiart Prize to Mikis Theodorakis is contrary to the Olympic spirit of peace, freedom, understanding, and equality among nations." Theodorakis, a Greek music icon best known internationally for his score for Zorba the Greek and The Ballad of Mauthausen, has described Jews as "at the root of evil." In an interview last week, he accused Jews of controlling much of the world's finances and politics, and compared Israeli policy to that of the Nazis. In the same interview, he termed himself "a true friend of the Jewish people." The IOC granted Theodorakis the Olympiart "as a man who symbolizes the spirit of the country of origin of the Olympic Games, as a man of peace who has never ceased to fight for freedom, and as a man of culture who has brought Greek music to the stage of the entire world for four decades," according to the IOC Web site."

Jew may have torched Paris soup kitchen,
By Amiram Barkat and Daniel Ben Simon, Haaretz (Israel), August 31, 2004
"A 50-year-old Jewish man appears to have been behind the torching of the Jewish community center in Paris some 10 days ago, French police have confirmed. The man, whose first name, Raphael, was released for publication, was arrested yesterday. According to French police sources, Raphael was a regular visitor to the community center's soup kitchen, and is believed to have set fire to the building in the wake of a dispute with the people who run it. The man has not confessed to the arson, but the police investigation has turned up considerable evidence tying him to the incident. Jewish community leaders in France reacted with anger and embarrassment following the latest revelations about the fire. If the police suspicions prove true, the affair will mark the second time in two months that an incident labeled as anti-Semitic and covered widely in the media has turned out to be motivated by other factors entirely. The first incident involved a non-Jewish Parisian woman who claimed to have been assaulted by six North African immigrants on a train, but later confessed to have fabricated the story. French government sources and Jewish organizations have yet to comment officially on the affair, and are waiting for a public announcement from the police. Since the story broke, however, France's Jews have been beside themselves with shame, with some calling Jewish radio stations yesterday to express their frustration. Others have spoken of profound embarrassment in light of the latest development in the fight against anti-Semitism. One radio listener said that in the past he had been afraid of Muslims, but had now decided to be wary of Jews. Another shouted that he was ashamed to show his face in the building in which he lived, noting that after the fire at the community center, his neighbors had visited him to express their disgust at the incident. Little by little, the sense of being the victims that had enveloped the Jews of France is being replaced by the sense that the series of deceptions is threatening to blur the severity of the problem. In particular, the French Jews are concerned that from now, any incident against the Jews will be immediately accompanied by suspicion. Till now, radical Muslim elements have been automatically suspected of any allegedly anti-Semitic incident. Now, the suspicions will be directed against those who have been deemed the principal victims of anti-Semitism, and the public and official outcry against any attack on Jews is expected to weaken ... Now that it appears that a mentally unstable Jewish man was behind the arson attack, the Jewish community is likely to see the sympathy of the French public dwindle. "Don't forget that we are dealing with a community that lives under tension, concern and fear all the time," Henri Cohen Solal, a Jewish psychoanalyst from Paris, told Haaretz yesterday."

[Here's how the above story about an expressly Jewish arson on a Jewish building was initially reported:]
Jews demand more security after Paris attack,
by philip carmel, Jewish News Weekly, August 27, 2004
"Jewish officials in Paris called for increased security measures outside community institutions after a meeting place for elderly Jews was destroyed in an arson attack. Firefighters called out to tackle the blaze early Sunday, Aug. 22, morning at the Judeo-Spanish social center in Paris’ 11th district found the institution gutted, with anti-Semitic slogans and graffiti daubed on refrigerators. The center is housed in a former synagogue once used by Greek and Turkish Jewish immigrants. Since the 1960s, it largely has served as a social club and soup kitchen for elderly people in the neighborhood. The center, on the ground floor of a five-story apartment block, is well known as a Jewish communal institution. Yet it wasn’t permanently guarded and there were no security cameras near the institution, a community security official said. A police night patrol that circulates in the area had passed the building some two hours before the attack but noticed nothing suspicious, he added. The spray-painting of swastikas at the site, as well as the presence of anti-Semitic slogans, appeared initially to indicate a far-right source to the attack. On Monday, Aug. 23, however, a previously unknown group calling itself Partisans for Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the arson. The claim could not be verified ... French President Jacques Chirac condemned the attack at the Jewish center, assuring the community of “the absolute determination of the public authorities to find the perpetrators of these unacceptable acts.” Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin cut short a visit to his hometown of Poitiers in western France to return to the capital, telling Jewish officials that public prosecutors would demand the maximum 20-year prison sentence for the assailant. Such comments come amid widespread criticism in the Jewish community of what they see as the justice system’s leniency toward acts of anti-Semitism. Speaking on French radio shortly after the arson, Roger Cukierman, president of the CRIF umbrella organization of French Jews, said judges had “created a real feeling of impunity by systematically handing out not guilty verdicts” in recent cases. “This leniency allows anti-Semites from all sides to freely express themselves,” Cukierman said. “Why should they deprive themselves when they’re not risking anything?”

[Yes, yes, of course. Taxpayers the world over should pay for Jewish fortresses in their midsts and all criticism of Jewish racism and power should be categorically forbidden.]
Paris posters condemn anti-Semitism,
[Jewish] Forward, (Breaking News section), September 1, 2004(?)
"More than 1,000 posters denouncing anti-Semitism were plastered on billboards across Paris. The posters are part of a campaign organized by Mayor Bertrand Delanoe to sensitize the city’s residents to the problems of anti-Semitism and intolerance. They will run on all municipal billboards during the first week of the new school year. Plans are also being laid to place the posters around the Parc des Princes Stadium, home to a local soccer team. Last week, Delanoe wrote to school directors in the city, asking them to initiate projects around the same theme. Later this month, the City Council is set to debate a proposal by the mayor to vastly increase security provisions around Jewish institutions."

Bomber's Son, Journalists Charged In First Anti-Semitism Trial In Turkey,
Turkish Press, September 3, 2004
"The teenage son of a suicide bomber who perished in four massive attacks in Istanbul last year and two journalists risk up to three years in jail in the first case over anti-Semitism in Muslim Turkey, judicial and Jewish sources said Friday. Prosecutor Ali Cakir told AFP he would be seeking between one and three years in prison for Nurullah Kuncak, 17, over a newspaper interview in which he commended twin suicide attacks on two synagogues in Istanbul on November 15. His father, Ilyas Kuncak, was one of the two suicide drivers who detonated truck bombs five days later at the British consulate and the HSBC bank in Turkey's biggest city. The blasts, blamed on a local cell linked to the Al-Qaeda network, claimed 63 lives and caused mass destruction. Turkey's Jewish community, which numbers some 35,000 people, has lived in peace with the Muslim majority for centuries, but the synagogue attacks raised concerns that anti-Semitic sentiment may be on the rise in the country. Cakir said he had indicted Kuncak under an article punishing those who "openly incite people to hatred on the grounds of differences of social class, race, religion, sect or region, in a way that may endanger public order." Kuncak told the Milliyet daily in December that his family was unmoved after the synagogue attacks because Jews were the target. "I cannot say we were happy but we were pleased... If Muslims had not been killed as well I would have been happy. "We do not love them at all. My father thought the same. Nobody will love them if we tell about the situation of Palestine," he said. The prosecutor said he had also indicted the journalist who interviewed the teenager, Elif Korap, and editor Eren Guvener, on the grounds that had helped in disseminating anti-Jewish propaganda by publishing the interview. "I'm not aware of any similar case in the past," Cakir said. The spokesman of Istanbul's chief rabbinate confirmed that the case was the first related to anti-Semitism in Turkey and welcomed the move. "This may constitute a turning point... I guess Turkish authorities have become more sensitive on the issue as part of efforts to align with European Union norms," Silvio Ovadia told AFP."

[How classical literature is reconfigured into Jewish apologetic, as always. For starters, this film version of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice begins with a focus on alleged Jewish oppression, despite the fact that Orthodox Jews have always CHOSEN to live a segregated lifestyle.]
Pacino at Venice Festival with Fiery 'Merchant',
By Christian Plumb, Yahoo!, September 4, 2004
"Al Pacino, who has already made purists squirm with his American accent in one Shakespearean role, has taken another risk, playing Jewish moneylender Shylock in the new film version of "The Merchant of Venice." "It's a challenge when you have to do something well-known and have to approach it as if it's being said for the first time," Pacino said in a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, where the movie is staging its world premiere on Saturday. His portrayal of the usurer, at times fiery or subdued, who demands a pound of flesh as security for a loan, may startle those who know Pacino best as a gangster or gruff cop ... Director Michael Radford, best known for the Oscar-nominated Italian drama "Il Postino," ("The Postman") opens the film with a depiction of the ghetto in which Venice's Jews were forced to live and shows Shylock getting slapped by Irons' Antonio -- who eventually begs him for a loan -- for no apparent reason. The film also shines a spotlight on the economic motives for the conquest of Portia, the play's heroine, and Jessica, Shylock's daughter, whose elopement is portrayed as just the latest in a series of blows to his dignity. "It's about a very modern situation," Radford said. "Two cultures that don't understand each other." Though it is not in the formal competition at the festival, Radford's Merchant has been one of the most eagerly awaited among more than 70 feature films that will be screened in the different sections of the festival before it ends on Sept. 11."]

[Is "anti-Semite" Michael Moore a two-faced scamster? Or is this just another lying Zionist rabbi? Jews are "the most oppressed people on earth?" The manure lies heavy here. Who spread it?]
Michael Moore and me. Michael Moore is not an anti-Semite. He told me,
by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Jewsweek, September 7, 2004
"A moment later Michael Moore sat down beside me. He was there to write a column on the convention for USA Today. I shook his hand, welcomed him, and asked him if he was feeling comfortable surrounded by Republicans. He told me that everyone had been friendly and kind to him since his arrival. A moment later, he was swarmed by the press, until it became such a distraction that they were whisked away by the Secret Service. Suddenly, it was me and him alone, again, this time cordoned off by a Secret Service perimeter, and I had my chance. I leaned over. "Mr. Moore, you were quoted in the New York Times as saying that you place Israel in your own private axis of evil. It was very painful for Jews to read that. Do you stand by the quote?" "No, I don't," he said. "That quote was taken completely out of context. I believe strongly in Israel's security and Israel's right to defend itself." "Well, Mr. Moore," I said, "the impression, sadly, is that you're an anti-Semite. That's a shame. However much you and I disagree on the major issues, you shouldn't come across as a Jew-hater. Joe Scarborough even asked me on his MSNBC show whether or not I believed you were an anti-Semite. That's the impression you've been giving. I trust that you are not a Jew-hater. Indeed, I bet you don't consider yourself any kind of hater. So why give that impression?" He told me, "Of course I'm not a hater, and you would be surprised at just how little you and I disagree on all the issues, and on the Israel issue in particular. I really want to correct that because I am not an enemy of Israel. I should really sit down and do an interview just about this because I want it corrected." "You know," I said, "there are people who want you to visit Israel so you can see the situation there for yourself." "I like Israel," he said. "I've visited twice, the first time during the first Intifada," he said. "Well, then you'll know that Israelis are victims, too, and that they have suffered terribly under terrorism. But Jews have the impression that you don't identify with Israeli suffering, that you forget that the Jews have suffered horrific oppression. And that's a shame because it undermines the morality of your message." He then said something that I did not expect: "I regard the Jewish people as the most oppressed people on earth." "Then it's important that that be known. Look, Mr. Moore," I said. "I am a political conservative, so I am certainly not on the same page as you. I was deeply critical of your most recent film, Fahrenheit 9/11. But Bowling for Columbine, your previous film, was important because it brought to light how Americans have incarcerated themselves in a prison of their own making, in a cage of fear. I greatly praised that aspect of your film in my upcoming book on the same subject, Face Your Fear. But you damage yourself and limit your audience by giving the impression that you are a hater of a people who have suffered so greatly." He said, "After I made Bowling for Columbine, I discovered that Israel has one of the lowest levels of violence -- I mean, besides the conflict with the Palestinians -- even though there are so many guns around." [Lowest levels of violence? I beg your pardon?]

Dylan, the Beatles and a ‘blacklisted journalist’,
by curt schleier, Jewish News Weekly, September 10, 2004
"The son of a kosher butcher from New Jersey, Al Aronowitz, 76, is the last of the angry formerly young men. He covered the pop culture beat for the New York Post and Saturday Evening Post in the late 1950s and ’60s. He was one of the first people to take contemporary music seriously, and in the process became friends with Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. He introduced Ginsberg to Bob Dylan and Dylan to the Beatles and the Beatles to marijuana. The details are all in his self-published book, “Bob Dylan and the Beatles.” Kerouac, he said, became a “drunk and anti-Semitic.” Ginsberg made a pass at Dylan when they first met. “Allen had a certain great charm. Even when he came on sexually, he made it funny. And Dylan just laughed.” It was a pivotal time in cultural history, and not only was Aronowitz there, he knew all the players. “I considered Ginsberg and Kerouac to be immortals. When I say immortal, I mean their work will live forever, like Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart. When I met Dylan I considered him to be an immortal, too' ... Aug. 28, 1964, was the fateful day when, as he writes in his book, he became “a proud and happy shadchen, a Jewish matchmaker, dancing at the princely wedding.” He brought a reluctant Dylan — he thought the Beatles played bubble-gum music — to the Beatles’ suite at the Hotel Delmonico, a move that Aronowitz believes changed music history.

Push for more government attention to anti-Semitism, but some objections,
By Matthew E. Berger, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Sept. 15, 2004
"Politicians looking at what the United States can do to help quash a rise in international anti-Semitism are arriving at different conclusions. Republicans in the U.S. Senate are leading an effort to raise awareness of the rise of anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist attacks in Europe and elsewhere. At the same time, a bipartisan group of policy intellectuals is criticizing the Bush administration for not backing new efforts to monitor and combat anti-Semitism abroad. While the re-emergence of international anti-Semitism is a phenomenon virtually no one in Washington disputes, opinions differ as to how to tackle it from here. Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) is pushing legislation that would mandate an annual State Department report on anti-Semitism and what countries are doing to combat it. It also would create an office within the State Department to handle the issue. “Unfortunately, anti-Semitism has had an appalling upsurge in many countries across the globe,” Lantos told JTA. “It is my judgement, as the only Holocaust survivor in this Congress, that anti-Semitism deserves special attention.” The State Department opposes the legislation, arguing it already monitors anti-Semitism in other annual reports. A group of 104 “prominent Americans,” coordinated by the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, sent a letter Monday to Secretary of State Colin Powell suggesting that the fight against anti-Semitism deserves “specific, focused attention,” and expressing disappointment that the State Department opposes Lantos’ legislation. “This is, unfortunately, a historic and worldwide phenomenon,” former Rep. Steve Solarz (D-N.Y.), a coordinator of the effort, told JTA. “We know what the consequences of anti-Semitism are.” Solarz is joined by Jack Kemp, a former secretary of Housing and Urban Development; Jeanne Kirkpatrick, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and James Woolsey, a former CIA director. In its official comments on the Global Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, the State Department said that other department reports already touch on anti-Semitism, and that a report devoted solely to anti-Semitism “could erode our credibility by being interpreted as favoritism in human rights reporting.” The department also said that anti-Semitism issues already are coordinated out of the Office of the Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Lantos said Powell told him he agrees with the department´s position. A State Department spokesman was unavailable for comment. Solarz and Lantos said they think global anti-Semitism warrants the same treatment as international human trafficking and the situation in Tibet, which are dealt with in specific State Department reports. “The notion that Jews are singled out for special and preferential treatment is sort of insane,” Lantos said. “Jews are singled out for persecution, and we need to prevent that.” The State Department has said it does not oppose a similar bill sponsored by Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), which passed the Senate in May and which calls for a one-time report on global anti-Semitism. It also requires the department to document anti-Semitic acts in its annual reports on international religious freedom and human rights. Lantos said he is close to a deal with Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), who is expected to sponsor the House of Representatives’ version of the Voinovich legislation, to amend it and make it similar to Lantos’ vision. Lantos said he believed the bill could be voted on this year and receive unanimous support if he can come to an agreement with Smith. Support for increased monitoring of anti-Semitic acts is popular on Capitol Hill ... Republicans have been touting their efforts against anti-Semitism as part of a larger election strategy to court the American Jewish vote. A recent White House booklet, “President George W. Bush: A Friend of the American Jewish Community,” focused on Bush’s condemnation of anti-Semitic comments by the former prime minister of Malaysia and his decision to send high-level delegations to anti-Semitism conferences sponsored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe."

[This guy Rabbi Boteach, author of Kosher Sex, et al, is everywhere provided a forum for his whining via old Judeocentric myths and cliches. Hey. If the singing Jewish canaries with their diamond necklaces are always sucking the air out of the mine shaft, inevitably the sweating miners are going to be complaining about all the birdshit on the floor. Sooner or later. But listen to Boteach: If you "hate" God, you hate Jews. And thereby, of course, vice versa: if you "hate" Jews, you obviously hate God. But my dear Rabbi Bojangles. Jews are canaries the way Allosaurus wore camoflauge fatigues while stalking its supper.]
Jews: Canaries in the Coal Mine?,
by Rabbi Shmuel Boteach, Belief.net
"The world is waking up to the fact that violence against Jews is the precursor to broader attacks. If only the world had valued Jewish life, it might have saved its own skin. In both the Second World War, and the current global war on terror, the attacks on the Jews were precursors to broader attacks that were in the planning stages on a truly massive scale. Hitler was oppressing Jews back in 1933. But the world was pretty accustomed to anti-Semitism, wasn’t all that outraged by it, and so, amid all the signs that this guy was a monster, decided to give Hitler a pass. Hitler took advantage of the time allotted him, built up his army, and ended up killing millions of Russians, British, and Americans, in addition to half the world’s Jews. It is clear that the same thing has now transpired with global, Islamic terrorism ... I do not believe that the Jews are more intelligent than other people. Less so do I believe that the Jews possess any physical superiority over any other nation. I do, however, believe that the Jews are G-d’s chosen people, responsible for imparting to the world the message of G-d’s law. It is therefore no coincidence that those who hate G-d hate the Jews as well. In this respect, the Jews have served as an almost infallible early warning system, alerting the world’s leaders to the next great evil that will stalk the earth. If the world would just learn to be sensitive to Jewish life, it would save its own behind as well. Even if we ignore the idea of the Jews as the chosen people, the fact is that the Jews have, unfortunately, served as an effective early warning system precisely because thugs, bullies, and murderers usually attack the most vulnerable targets first. People who crave unbridled power always start with the weak. Jews have been easy targets. They are a tiny nation whose refusal to adopt the religious mores of their neighbors have branded them as outsiders. They have therefore been attacked and scapegoated by evil regimes throughout the generations, and had the world simply looked at who was picking on the Jews, they might have easily identified the next great threat to their own security."

[Oh, wonderful! Yet another new book about the terrible cancer of "anti-Semitism," this time anti-Jewish hostility from the "liberal" community. Another tome to function in Jewish libraries as bookends with those about "anti-Semitic" rightwingers. Bottom line: self-described "left wing" Jews are often closer to being Zionist Nazis than pan-human universalists. Communal Jewish neurosis, self-delusion, and moral blindness appears to be close to total. Solidarity with the Jew Klux Klan transcends allegiance to their non-Jewish neighbor.]
De'ja' Jew,
By GIORDANA GREGO, Jerusalem Post, September 14, 2004
"The Liberal Anti-Semites: The New Face of an Ancient Hatred By Fiamma Nirenstein (Gli Antisemiti progressisti: La Nuova Forma di un Odio Antico) Rizzoli 390pp. 18.50 Euro In the aftermath of the 1975 UN motion that condemned Zionism as a form of racism, Italian artist Herbert Pagani wrote: "Now that the Jews have a homeland, anti-Semitism rises again from its ashes, or better, our ashes, and it is called anti-Zionism. Before it was applied to individuals, today it is applied to a nation. Israel is a ghetto, Jerusalem is Warsaw. We are no longer besieged by the Germans but by the Arabs, whose crescent has often been disguised as a sickle to better fool the Left around the world. I, a left-wing Jew, do not care about a Left whose wish is to liberate all mankind at the expense of one minority, because I belong to that minority." Today, in the aftermath of the 2001 UN human -rights summit in Durban, we are back to the future. The chorus of harsh international criticism and condemnation of Israel merely resurrects this same dark phoenix. Interestingly, the main promoters of the increasing hostility toward the Jewish state belong to the liberal camp - an old ally and protector of the Jewish people. In her latest book The Liberal Anti-Semites, Italian journalist Fiamma Nirenstein follows the development of the relationship between the Italian Left and the Jewish people, from the aftermath of the Second World War until today. Nirenstein provides a compelling analysis of the dynamics of this relationship, and of how the Left took an increasingly anti-Israel stand since the Six Day War, eventually becoming one of its most vociferous opponents. The consequences of this liberal anti-Semitism are very serious: a legitimization of terrorism and a failure to understand its origins. As a result, Nirenstein contends, we fail to see its only possible solution: democracy in the Arab world. Nirenstein invites the Left to reconsider its position vis-a'-vis Israel and terrorism, warning that Europe, willing or not, will soon have to fight the same war that Israel is fighting today. APART FROM being a leading Italian journalist and author, Nirenstein is professor of Middle Eastern History at the University LUISS in Rome. One of her previous books, The Betrayal: How the West Betrayed the Jews (2000), was a best seller in Italy that sparked an intense debate and attracted international attention. At the time of its publication, anti-Semitism was clearly on the rise. But today it has reached such a feverish pitch that it compelled her to delve more deeply in this latest book. In it, she argues that in the aftermath of World War II, the Jews and the Left needed each other. While the Jews were the "living accusation" and memory against the brutality of fascist regimes, the Left acted as a protector of their rights as a minority. Israel fit well in this pattern: a small, weak country evincing sympathy and support among the Left as a socialist nation, with a strong labor union and workers' rights. This dynamic, however, came to an abrupt end with Israel's victory in the Six Day War. The "new Jew" who defends himself and even dares to win "loses all his charm in the eyes of the intellectuals of the Left," beholden as they are to a peculiar ide'e fixe."

[Of course a Jew may be an "anti-Semite." When a Jew finally looks honestly at the neurotic community that claims him, he melts with shame and feels the dreaded mystical virus of "anti-Semitism" ("Jewish self-hatred") within his very bones. The accusation of "anti-Semitism" in 2004 is a sordid political tool, and nothing more. It has become a joke for those who watch contesting Jewish thieves: "You, Jew! You're an anti-Semite! I should know because I am Jewish!" "No, YOU Jew! YOU are the anti-Semite and I should know because it is I who am the REAL Jew!"]
Poraz: “A Jew may be an Anti-Semite”,
Israel National News, September 19, 2004
"[Israeli] Interior Minister Avraham Poraz has once again sparked a string of outraged reactions due to his controversial remarks, stating during today’s cabinet meeting that “even a Jew may be an anti-Semite”. This follows last week’s now infamous statement that “there are no hungry persons in Israel”. Today’s latest remarks have led to calls for his dismissal. Likud Minister Yisrael Katz has called on the prime minister to dismiss Poraz from the cabinet, explaining there is no place in the government for a minister who attacks the poor, the hungry and now the Jews. MK Yisrael Eichler of the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism Party called Poraz’s Shinui Party “anti-Semitic”, calling for it to be outlawed."

Behold yet even more world Jewish Totalitarianism -- buying up your right to think freely. But, hey. Everyone knows Jews are "special." "Unique." "Chosen." Will the U.S. Monitor Anti-Semitism Around the World?,
Israel National News, Sep 20, 2004
"A group of 104 prominent Americans in the religious, political, academic and entertainment worlds sent a letter last week to U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell challenging the State Department's opposition to a bill mandating an annual report on anti-Semitism around the world. The group, coordinated by former Congressman Stephen Solarz and the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, wrote that the fight against anti-Semitism deserves "specific, focused attention," and said that Powell should support the Global Anti-Semitism Awareness Act H.R. 4230, authored by Cong. Tom Lantos (D-Cal.) ... The State Department's position is that implementation of the bill could "erode our credibility by being interpreted as favoritism in human rights reporting," and might create an "inappropriate stand-alone situation for one group." Dr. Rafael Medoff, director of the Wyman Institute - located on the campus of Gratz College, near Philadelphia - responded, "The State Department already has a number of offices that extend 'exclusive status' to groups or issues of concern, among them offices on Tibet, Human Trafficking and women's rights. It is the anti-Semites who are singling out Jews, and that is why the fight against anti-Semitism deserves specific, focused attention. The Lantos bill is a timely and appropriate response to the rising tide of anti-Semitism in Europe, where it frequently turns violent, and in the Arab and Muslim world where it is government-sponsored." Lantos himself, the only Holocaust survivor serving in the Congress, is also not happy with Powell's position. "I'm unaware of a global upsurge of anti-Episcopalian feeling," he said sarcastically. "Since there is a wave of anti-Semitism from Denmark to Australia, [that] the State Department won't take a strong stand on this, I find it outrageous... The notion that Jews are singled out for special and preferential treatment is sort of insane. Jews are singled out for persecution, and we need to prevent that."

[World Judeocentric fascism is coming our way. What is an "intentional incitment to hatred or discrimination?" It's whatever the primo discriminator (the Jewish/Zionist Lobby) dictates it to be: particularly, any critical investigation of Jewish tribalism. What is an "anti-Semitic ideology?" What, dear God, is an "anti-Semitic crime on the Internet?" That would be, for starters, asserting the principles of human universalism and defending Palestinian human rights. It would also obviously include the desire to clean the White House of the Zionist rat's nest. Agree? Get ready for a "penalty."
ECRI implores to tackle rise in anti-Semitism,
Jerusalem Post, September 20, 2004
"Europe's top human rights body told governments Monday to urgently counter the rise in anti-Semitic attacks by extending anti-racism legislation and prosecuting perpetrators more vigorously. The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, which is part of the Council of Europe, called on its 45 member nations to "ensure that criminal law in the field of combating racism covers anti-Semitism." It wants governments to penalize intentional acts of public incitement to violence, hatred or discrimination, public insults and defamation, threats against a person or group, and the expression of anti-Semitic ideologies. It urged member nations to "prosecute people who deny, trivialize or justify the Holocaust," and boost anti-racism education in schools as well as better training for police officers, judges and prosecutors. The report said criminal legislation should also cover anti-Semitic crimes committed on the Internet and on television, "and other modern means of information and communication." The report was drawn up in wake of a rise in attacks on Jews in Europe, which the commission said was partially fueled by the Mideast conflict. It did not lay blame on any group for the attacks, but said "victims of racism and exclusion in some European societies" were "sometimes ... perpetrators of anti-Semitism." It said anti-Semitism was being promoted "openly or in a coded manner" by some political parties and leaders, including mainstream parties. The 16-page report, however, did not cite any examples. The report said it was Europe's "duty to remember the past by remaining vigilant and actively opposing any manifestations of racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance." "Anti-Semitism is not a phenomenon of the past and ... the slogan 'never again' is as relevant today as it was 60 years ago," the commission, based in Strasbourg, France, said in a statement."

[In a just world, every French school would post photographs of massacred Palestinian children in the hallways and rob the Jewish perpetrators of their perpetual Victim Monopoly. But hey. Why not punish unruly students. We think the best way to control school problems is to force students -- eyes propped open with toothpicks a la Clockwork Orange -- to watch the entire NINE HOUR documentary about the Jewish persecution obsessions.]
French Try to Curb Anti-Semitism in Schools,
by Lisa Bryant, Voice of America, 20 Sep 2004,
"In an effort to stem a rising tide of anti-Semitism in public schools, the French government is distributing excerpts of a haunting documentary on the Holocaust to high school classes ... The country has been battling a worrying spike in anti-Semitic acts in recent years, many of them by young people. Tensions are generally highest among Jews and Muslims, in a country which has the largest population of both groups in Western Europe. That's one reason why the French government has decided to distribute copies of the movie Shoah, or the Holocaust, to every public high school in the country. Some of the schools received copies excerpting the more than nine-hour documentary a few years ago. But many teachers reportedly never showed the movie to their students. This time, the government is pushing for all schools to air the documentary, which recounts stark accounts of Holocaust survivors. A preview of the film was shown last week at Sophie-Germain high school. Other schools will soon be getting their own copies of the movie... Sociologist Michel Wieviorka, who has written several books on racism and violence in France, believes [a recent book] exaggerated the problems. But he says many times school administrators don't know how to deal with racial tensions in their classes. And Jewish students, he says, aren't the only victims of discrimination. "As soon as something is said against Jews there will be a great scandal. But there will not be a great scandal if the same thing is said against Arabs," said Mr. Wieviorka. As a result, Mr. Wieviorka says, some Arab students feel they are victims of unequal treatment."

[JTR Contributor's note: "While you were away, Bobby Fischer was arrested in Japan. There was general gloating from the usual suspects over the 'capture' of this 'legendary antisemite.' Here are two articles with the latest news on Bobby's predicament, and below I have included a forward of the previous take on his capture back in July by the New York Times. A word about this NYT article. It originally included the statement: "In the radio interview last year, he called the United States "a brutal Jewish dictatorship." This statement was excluded from most newspapers that carried this story, perhaps because it was not seen as 'relevant' to audiences outside New York that would be rooting for his imprisonment. Unfortunately the original link is no longer valid, but the backup links I give do not include this statement, but otherwise carry an almost identical version of the story."]
Fischer fears ‘torture and murder’ in US,
by DAVID BAMBER, The Telegraph (India), August 31, 2004
"Bobby Fischer, the American former world chess champion, fears that he will be “tried convicted, sentenced, imprisoned, tortured and murdered” when Japan deports him to America. In a characteristically eccentric interview with a Philippines radio station, Fischer said Japan, his home for the past three years, was guilty of a “vicious betrayal” after he lost his legal battle against deportation last week. He faces a 10-year prison sentence in the United States for violating international sanctions in 1992 by playing a chess game in the former Yugoslavia against his long-time Russian rival, Boris Spassky. Fischer, 61, has been held in a Tokyo jail for six weeks after immigration officers at Narita airport seized his passport, which had been revoked by the US authorities. “They are preparing to deport me to the US to be murdered,” Fischer told Bombo Radyo in a rambling telephone interview. “`They stabbed me in the back. “I spent $350,000 here in Japan. I gave them my time, I gave them my money, spent a fortune going to Japanese mineral baths. But just one call from the US embassy and they are sending me to prison in the US to die.” Fischer believes that he is being persecuted on political grounds. He is renowned for his virulent anti-Semitic and anti-American outbursts, most notoriously praising the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on the evening of September 11, 2001. Despite his views, he still has many supporters. Spassky recently wrote to President George W Bush to plead on his old foe’s behalf."

King's Gambit. How chess maestro Bobby Fischer turned fugitive and ended up in a Japanese detention cell,
By Jim Frederick, TIME Asia Magazine, Aug. 23, 2004
"To the average lonely heart, Bobby Fischer—erstwhile chess champion, virulent anti-Semite, and fugitive from the U.S. justice system—might not sound like Mr. Right ... After 12 years on the run from charges that he broke U.S. trade regulations, the 61-year-old chess genius is fighting attempts to deport him back to the U.S. after Japanese immigration authorities apprehended him on July 13 for traveling on an allegedly invalid passport. That collaring brought to a close one of the most famous (if not particularly intense) manhunts in recent American history. A prodigy from New York who managed, improbably, to make chess cool, Fischer rocketed to stardom for his aggressive play and flamboyance. In 1972, at the age of 29, he defeated Russian Boris Spassky for the world title in a cold war showdown that made him an American hero. Soon after, however, Fischer's life degenerated from triumph to farce. He joined the fringe Worldwide Church of God, then abruptly left it. He grew increasingly vocal about his anti-Semitic views, despite the fact that his own mother was Jewish. He quit playing competitive chess, and was stripped of his title in 1975 for failing to face challenger Anatoly Karpov. Then, in 1992, Fischer resurfaced to play a rematch with Spassky in Yugoslavia, where Americans were forbidden from doing business because of its government's support of Serbian aggression in Bosnia. At a press conference before the match, Fischer spat on a letter from the U.S. Treasury Department telling him not to play. He beat Spassky and pocketed a $3.35 million prize, and a U.S. federal warrant was issued for his arrest. Faced with a possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for violating America's economic sanctions, he has never returned to the States. For more than a decade, Fischer crisscrossed the globe, passing through Hungary, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea. By 2000, Japan and the Philippines had become his primary home bases, and he reportedly reveled in the relative anonymity they afforded him. Yet Fischer never truly went into hiding. He traveled using his real identity and passport, and he twice dared to pass directly under the U.S. government's nose. In 1997, Fischer renewed his passport at the U.S. embassy in Bern, Switzerland, and he returned there in 2003 to get 20 new passport pages. Nor was he shy about using the media to express his views. He made 21 live radio appearances from 1999-2003, mostly in the Philippines. During these spots he would rail against the worldwide Jewish and American conspiracies supposedly out to ruin him, calling the Jews "filthy, lying bastard people" and the U.S. a "brutal, evil dictatorship." When the World Trade Center was destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001, he announced on Philippine radio: "This is wonderful news. I applaud the act ... I want to see the U.S. wiped out."

[This is an act of fascist totalitarianism. In a truly free society, criticism of Israel and the bigoted Jewish Lobby would be the duty of anyone with a thimbleful of morality.]
House panel to hear anti-Semitism bill,
Jewish Telegraphic Agency, [Breaking News] September 27, 2004
"A U.S. House of Representatives’ panel is expected to vote on a bill to enhance federal monitoring of international anti-Semitism. The House International Relations Committee will debate the issue Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) said, and the Global Anti-Semitism Awareness Act is expected to pass the panel and be voted on in the House this fall. The bill would mandate an annual State Department report on anti-Semitic incidents worldwide, and would create a monitoring office within the department. Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) who had authored similar legislation, signed on to Lantos’ stronger bill last week, and Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), who authored similar legislation that passed the Senate earlier this year, gave vocal support for the stronger provisions as well, Lantos’ spokeswoman said. The State Department opposes the legislation, arguing it already monitors anti-Semitism in other annual reports.

["Being Jewish" is always the neurotic war in the Jewish psyche desribed below. Being Jewish always involves the element of "self-hatred" and one resolves this by either running away (not popular any more) from the oppressive Jewish ideology of chains or diving blindly into it. Jewish "self-hatred" is of course Jewish "anti-Semitism." Both of these center around the recognition that the ideology of Jewish tribalism is shameful, flawed, corrupt, and immoral. The easy way to (superficially) resolve Jewish neurois is climb back on to the neurotic "chosen people" bandwagon and merge one's personal identity with the vast Klan. Kind of like jumping into a river. Traditional Judaism demands an explicitly racial foundation, as noted below : "One can never stop being Jewish." That's what Hitler said, isn't it? Two sides of the same coin.]
Confessions of a self-hating Jew,
by Leeora Rabinowtiz, Jerusalem Post, October 11, 2004
"Book: Shanda: The Making and Breaking of a Self-Loathing Jew, by Neal Karlen.
From lofty dreams of rabbinical ordination to the depths of Jewish self-hate, Neal Karlen's memoir Shanda: The Making and Breaking of a Self-Loathing Jew, tells the story of one man's struggle to feel comfortable in his own skin.
Raised in an observant home in St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, and educated at the local Hebrew school, Karlen once hoped to be a rabbi. He had high hopes of injecting spirit and humor into the dry and parochial Judaism of his youth. By the time he was an adult, however, these childhood dreams had taken a backseat to Karlen's new identity as a self-described "Jewish Uncle Tom' ... Darting from past to present, Karlen reveals his descent into Jewish self-hatred in all of its repugnance. 'Even when I was still a kosher-keeping and religious youth, studying Hebrew and ancient Aramaic harder than anyone I knew, I'd tried to get away from my ancestry and become just an American kid, like Beaver Cleaver or Greg Brady, sit-com fantasies of gentile life, ironically almost always written by first generation Jews..." Though he always admired Jewish outlaws as a youth - brave and masculine exceptions to the stereotype he associated with Jews - such images were not enough to sustain a Jewish identity as an adult. After losing touch with Jewish friends, and distancing himself from parents he considers embarrassing, Karlen is no longer invited to family events. Eventually, he marries a Catholic blonde cheerleader, severing himself from Jewish life entirely, and ensuring his tacit acceptance in white Christian America: the "legitimate residents and owners of this place," Karlen writes, quoting from Portnoy's Complaint. The fate of his marriage is sealed, however, when on his wedding night, the bride's grandfather responds to an anecdote of Karlen's father by saying: "You should have Jewed him down." Worse yet, the bride defends her grandfather's anti-Semitic slur. Shanda, which means "disgrace," is truly an appropriate title for this memoir. Karlen reveals himself at his worst as a Jew: biting into a pork sandwich, courting a gentile woman with anti-Semitic jokes and inciting his non-Jewish friends to speak of Jews derogatorily. So ashamed of his behavior in one instance, he leaves a party vomiting. At midlife, Karlen takes a hard look at himself, only to discover that in truth he belongs nowhere and that the Jew he really hates is himself. A fateful run-in with Manis Friedman, a childhood rabbi and renowned hassidic scholar, turns out to be his salvation. Initially, Karlen tells the rabbi that he is no longer Jewish. Friedman coolly responds by recounting a lesson from the late rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who believed that one can never stop being Jewish. [Q:]In the beginning of Shanda, you describe your desire to emulate Jewish outlaws. Who are these outlaws and why were you attracted to them? [Karlen:] Some were political [outlaws] and some were actually Jewish gangsters. Meyer Lansky was kicked out of Israel in the 1970s and for the last 40 years Jewish gangsters have been shandas [shameful], but now are big heroes. A lot of American Jewish men need to prove their masculinity, and are even jealous of Israeli men. In Israel, you don't have to be this wimpy Jewish guy who is good at math and becomes a doctor... I needed to prove my masculinity by joining the hockey team. My job, as the worst and only Jewish player on the team, was to pick a fight with their best player. I would love having to get off the ice with blood all over my face to show that I was a tough Jew and not a pale shtetl boy."

Israeli writer is Swedish anti-Semite,
Searchlight magazine, May 2004
"Jermas’s [Israel Shamir's] translator in Norway is Hans Olav Brendberg, a teacher, who was recently asked to leave the executive committee of a branch of the Red Electoral Alliance (RV). The left-wing RV, which took 1.2% of the vote in the general election in 2001 and has over 80 local councillors, accused Brendberg of making anti-Jewish statements on the internet and in his work as Jermas’s translator. Brendberg, 35, stirred up controversy after writing articles for the left-wing daily Klassekampen in which he charged the Jews with killing Christ and hating all non-Jews. But it is through the KK-forum, Klassekampen’s semi-official web-based discussion forum, that Brendberg has gained most notoriety for statements such as: “Millions of nice Germans have always existed but not one of them is mentioned in Anne Frank’s Diaries. As for the broader picture: is not the world bigger than the attic of a Dutch city apartment block?” On several occasions, Brendberg has referred to Kevin MacDonald, an extreme right-wing American, as an authority on Jewish matters. MacDonald, a professor at an obscure Californian university, is a white racist, antisemitic, anti-black, anti-left apologist for Hitler’s genocide and an inveterate fascist."

[JTR Contributor's comments about the above article: "I got some additional ifnormation that might be of interest. First of all, except the mentioned authors from Norway - Tor Bach, Sven Johansen and Lise Apfelblum - Stieg Larsson and Daniel Poohl from Sweden have contributed as writers. The Norwegians works for the Leftwing magazine Monitor, the Swedes for the organization Expo. Expo is officially an organization working to monitor “racism, anti-Semitism and rightwing extremism”. In reality, it is primarily an organization working to advance Jewish interests by lashing out on anyone who dear to criticize Jews in any way. The main financiers behind Expo are the troika Robert Weil, Mikael Kamras and Gabriel Urwitz, all of them Jews. Weil is one of the richest men in Sweden and a wheeler-dealer who keeps his business from public insight. He also owns the Jewish Theatre in Sweden. Urwitz runs an investment company and is vice president of the Jewish community in Stockholm. Kamras is on the board of several companies, for instance as President of Elite Hotels and DNB Asset Management, besides being head of the Jewish Museum in Stockholm. Kamras used to be CEO of the investment company Proventus, owned by Weil, but that position is now taken by Daniel Sachs, also Jewish, who before that worked for Urwitz. In other words, the financing of Expo comes from a very close knit group of rich Jews. Expo publishes a magazine that in every issue thanks the ADL for its support. Head of this magazine is Robert Aschberg, a Jew who also controls Strix Television, the largest production company in Sweden. Strix is for instance behind the reality show “Survivor” in the US and “the Farm” in UK, where David Beckham’s alleged mistress Rebecca Loos recently masturbated a boar as part of the “entertainment”. Aschberg is the grandson of the Bolshevik Banker, Olof Aschberg, who funded the communist revolution in Russia 1917. Expo is the organization that tracked Shamir down and then initiated a smear campaign against him, echoed in the article published by Searchlight. The arguments in the article are the usual nonsense from Expo. Professor MacDonald has never asserted what the authors claim he has; the twisted and vile descriptions of him and his work would make Julius Streicher blush. Lars Adelskogh is not “a leading figure in the Swedish UFO movement”; although this 54-year-old for a short time did have an interest in UFOs in his youth as far as I know. Further, Adelskogh is a translator by profession, why it isn’t very remarkable that he has translated a book by Shamir. The mentioning of UFOs is an obvious attempt to ridicule both Adelskogh and Shamir, as is the mentioning of how Shamir “made the laughable claim […] that many Jews received text messages warning them to get out of the World Trade Centre in New York before the terror attacks of 11 September.” What isn’t mentioned is that this “laughable claim” also was made by Israeli daily newspaper Ha’aretz among others. I haven’t seen the actual messages and thus cannot form an opinion whether it was a mere coincidence, or if it indeed was a warning to make Jews leave the twin towers. However, that at least two Israelis did receive text messages about an attack seems to be beyond any doubt. Anyway, the most revealing in all this is that neither Expo nor any other group discusses what Shamir actually writes about. They brand him as an "anti-Semite” and tries to ridicule him by making allegations that at best are partly true. Nothing is said about what’s makes him “anti-Semitic”. There is nothing substantial in this criticism, and that makes the article a proto-typical example of the tactics used to silence anyone who dares to discuss uncomfortable facts about Jews."]

Congress Passes Lantos's Antisemitism Bill,
U.S. Newswire, October 11, 2004
"Both houses of Congress have unanimously passed legislation requiring the U.S. to monitor anti-Semitism around the world, despite the State Department's opposition. The bill, known as the Global Anti-Semitism Awareness Act (H.R. 4230), was introduced by Congressman Tom Lantos (D-Calif.), in response to the rising tide of anti-Semitism in Europe and the Middle East. Lantos is the only Holocaust survivor serving in the Congress. The bill requires the State Department to compile an annual report on anti-Semitism around the world, and establishes an office within the department to focus on the issue. The State Department at first stalled the bill, by arguing that Lantos's proposal would "extend exclusive status to one religious or ethnic group." But the legislation moved forward in recent weeks after the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies and former Congressman Stephen Solarz organized more than 100 prominent Americans to sign a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell, protesting the State Department's position. As the San Francisco Chronicle reported: "One key to advancing Lantos' bill may have been the surprise intervention of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies. The Pennsylvania-based organization, named for a historian who has written about the West's response to the Holocaust, organized an open letter to Powell signed by 104 prominent Americans. They included former Republican vice presidential nominee Jack Kemp, former United Nations ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick, ex-CIA director James Woolsey and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Garry Wills. 'I was delighted and totally surprised by this bipartisan, multi-faith group,' said Lantos. The letter was signed by prominent Americans from across the spectrum of the religious, political, academic and entertainment worlds. In addition to Kemp and Kirkpatrick, the signatories included former National Security Advisor Anthony Lake, singers Janis Ian and Peter Himmelman, comedian David Brenner, former State Department Legal Advisor Abraham Sofaer, writers Cynthia Ozick and Thane Rosenbaum, and leaders of four top Christian religious seminaries: the Union Theological Seminary, Yale Divinity School, Drew Theological Seminary and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary ... NCSJ: Congress Adds Stronger State Department Focus on Anti- Semitism,
U.S. Newswire, October 11, 2004
"NCSJ welcomed final Congressional passage of a bill that requires the U.S. State Department to report on global anti-Semitism and designates a U.S. special envoy to promote monitoring and combating of anti- Semitism worldwide ... In addition to the reporting requirements, the version passed last week by the House of Representatives includes additional measures such as establishment of a State Department office and envoy for monitoring and combating anti- Semitism ... "In the past few months," NCSJ President Joel M. Schindler noted, "NCSJ has been fortunate to testify on this issue before both the Senate and House committees and the Helsinki Commission, using each hearing to strongly support this initiative. We have also reached out to our partners in the State Department to discuss how these new tools could be employed. At every level, the State Department is a catalyst for European governments to combat anti-Semitism, and Congress has now provided new avenues for this mission." Testifying in the House of Representatives last week, prior to the House and Senate votes, NCSJ Executive Director Mark B. Levin said the robust reporting will "measure consistently which countries are contributing to the problem and which are contributing to the solution, domestically as well as in such international fora as the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Additionally, while the OSCE waits for many of its member states to meet their obligations to supply data on anti-Semitism and efforts to combat it in their own countries, a U.S. global review provides an initial read-out of such data worldwide." Levin is currently in Warsaw as a Public Member of the U.S. delegation to the annual OSCE review conference on human rights. In that capacity, he will address the 55 member governments, supporting an OSCE special representative on anti-Semitism, a clear agenda for next year's OSCE anti-Semitism follow-up conference in Spain, and full funding and cooperation in the OSCE's collection of data on anti-Semitic and other hate crimes ... According to Dr. Meth, "Designating an office and envoy will enhance the existing mandate of the State Department's Office of Holocaust Issues, which has been the quarterback in Washington for U.S. policy on global anti-Semitism, working closely with the U.S. Mission to the OSCE in Vienna." NCSJ: Advocates on behalf of Jews in Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States & Eurasia - a voluntary, non-profit agency created in 1971 - is the mandated central coordinating agency of the organized American Jewish community for policy and activities on behalf of the estimated 1.5 million Jews in the former Soviet Union. NCSJ comprises nearly 50 national organizations and over 300 local federations, community councils and committees across the United States."

["Anti-Semitic stereotypes?" Jews are destroying America's relations with the rest of the world. This article makes it very clear: Jews run America. Congress is afraid of them. The stranglehold the Jewish Lobby has on American foreign policy is beyond belief. Now everyone on Earth must pay homage to the Jewish Caesar that runs the Super Power Throne from behind the Wizard of Oz curtain. Imagine if another country had such a stupid policy with America: its relations with the U.S. were founded on how it treated Jews! Wake up, American people! Take back the country that has been stolen from you. Open your eyes one time. Jews run the United States and seek to spread wider apartheid Israel at the expense of American blood and money. It is as clear as the blue Star of David stamped on your forehead. Look in the mirror. How did it get there? Did you vote for it? The Jewish Lobby demands favoritism in its behalf and you -- taxpayer, soldier, worker, corrupted politician -- are its stepping stone. On multiple levels, American Jewry has twisted the American nation to its exploitive will .]
US to rate its allies on their treatment of Jews,
By David Rennie, Telegraph (UK), October 13, 2004
"In another test of America's frayed relations with France, Russia and other allies, the US Congress has ordered the State Department to start rating governments throughout the world on their treatment of Jewish citizens. The resulting report cards on anti-Semitism would be published in annual US surveys of human rights abuses around the world. The proposed law was passed by the House of Representatives on Monday, in response to what its sponsors called an alarming surge in anti-Semitism, especially in Europe. It has already been passed by the Senate. Congress overruled strong opposition from diplomats at the State Department who complained in an internal memo that a special focus on Judaism, "opens us to charges of favouritism and challenges the credibility of our reporting". There is little doubt that the new law will create diplomatic waves. France, Russia, Malaysia, Egypt, Canada and Australia were singled out by congressional sponsors of the law as countries that had witnessed disturbing outbreaks of discrimination against Jews in the past year. The law, the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act, also ordered the establishment of an office at the State Department dedicated to monitoring anti-Semitism, again over the department's protests. The resulting internal row must now be resolved by President George W Bush as the legislation heads to his desk from Congress. With the act overwhelmingly backed by both parties, officials in Congress said they expected he would sign it into law. A three-page State Department memorandum, leaked to The Telegraph yesterday, complained that congressional plans would throw US human rights reporting "out of balance", and "erode our credibility by being interpreted as favouritism in human rights reporting". In a sign of the diplomatic anxieties, the State Department argued for anti-Semitism monitoring to remain a task conducted behind closed doors, by the department's existing "special envoy for holocaust issues" ... Tom Lantos, a California Democrat and Holocaust survivor who was one of the sponsors, denounced State Department talk of "favouritism" as an alarming nod to "the worst stereotypes of Jews perpetrated in anti-Semitic tracts throughout modern history".

Antisemitism Eventually Hits Everyone,
By Irwin N. Graulich, American Daily, (10/06/04)
"It only begins with the Jews. Jew-Hatred should be a wake up call for all decent human beings of every religion and no religion. Hitler's initial target was indeed, the Jews. But that was only the beginning of his plan. He invaded Czechoslovakia, France, England and would have eventually progressed to the rest of humanity. Attention planet earth! Antisemitism is not exclusively a Jewish problem, because it never ends with only Jews. The latest example of this phenomenon is the Arab and Muslim world, which has despised Israel since 1948. Anti-Israel and antisemitism are virtually synonymous terms. However, this time, the antisemitic cancer has metastasized further than previous masses, growing into anti-American and anti-Western tumors. The hatred of a tiny Jewish state should have been an early detection warning for the world that this diseased lump would eventually spread. Had the West biopsied the problem immediately, perhaps 1 million black Sudanese Christians would still be alive, and 3000 Americans who perished on 9/11 would continue to hug their children, parents and spouses to this day. What is even more amazing is that Jew-Hatred does not stop with murdering all other groups ... Let the world know, that Jews play the role of miner's canaries for good people everywhere. When there are "noxious moral fumes," the Jews die first. But it does not end there. All innocent people are next in line ... Unfotunately, political correctness has crept into this equation, not permitting world leaders to tell the truth--that the real problem is fundamentalist Islam. To call Islam "a religion of peace," at this time in history is a "fundamental" error of gross proportions. Of course there are some beautiful, kind Muslims, especially in America. However, there were some lovely members of the Nazi party during WWII, and even wonderful Communists during the heyday of the Soviet Union. The bulk of the world's issues with evil today unfortunately fall within one group, and it happens to be a religion. That is the plain and simple truth. Unless leaders like George W. Bush point that out clearly, without fear of offending, Islam will never solve its disastrous problems. Imagine a therapist being "uncomfortable" confronting a patient with their flaws ... Irwin N. Graulich is a well known motivational speaker on morality, ethics, Judaism and politics."

A Letter to Abraham Foxman. Criticizing Israel is Not Anti-Semitism,
by Ralph Nader,
CounterPunch, October 16-17
"
Dear Mr. Foxman: ... For many years you have eschewed engaging in a dialogue with those in Israel and the United States who disagree with your views. Your mode of operation for years has been to make charges of racism or insinuation of racism designed to slander and evade. Because your pattern of making such charges, carefully calibrated for the occasion but of the same stigmatizing intent, has served to deter critical freedom of speech, you have become sloppy with your characterizations when it comes to attempts to hold you accountable. Of course citizen groups make charges all the time but their critics and corporate adversaries do review and rebut which keeps both sides more alert to accuracy especially when they desire press coverage. Few groups get the free ride that has been the case of the ADL when it ventures beyond its historic mission into covering the Israeli militaristic regime and its brutalization and slaughter of far more innocent Palestinians it occupies, than the reverse casualties inflicted on innocent Israelis.Your insensitivity here is legion. You fail to understand that your studied refusal to reflect the condemnations of Israeli military action and mayhem against civilians, by the great Israeli human rights organization B'tselem and the major international human rights organizations, contributes to the stereotypic bigotry against Palestinian Arabs and the violent Gulag that imprisons them in the West Bank and Gaza. Yours is more than the "crime of silence" so deservedly condemned in other periods of modern history when despots reigned. You go out of your way to silence or chill others who are raising the same points that B'T selem and Rabbis for Justice and other U.S. and Israeli peace groups, such as Rabbi Lerner's Tikkun initiative, do. You are not above twisting words of those you take to task in order to be able to deploy the usual semantic vituperatives. My comments related to the Israeli government with the fifth most powerful and second most modern military machine in the world through its prime minister possessing the role of puppeteer to puppets in the White House and Congress. You distorted the comment into "Jews controlling the U.S. government." Shame on you. You know better. If you do not see the difference between those two designations, you yourself are treading on racist grounds. Indeed, you are too willing to justify any violence against innocent Palestinian children, women and men in the mounting thousands on the grounds of inadvertence and security when such casualties are either direct or foreseeable results of planned military operations. Your refusal to condemn bigoted language, cartoons, articles and statements in Israel up to the highest government levels, can be called serious insensitivity to "the other anti-Semitism." Both Jews and Arabs belong to the ancient Semitic tribes of the Middle East either genealogically or metaphorically. There is, as you know so well, anti-Semitism against Jews in many places in the world. There is, as you always ignore, aggressive anti-Semitism against defenseless Arabs in many places in the world and in Israel whose military might and nuclear weapons could destroy the entire Middle East in a weekend."

Woman angry at Jewish ex-husband admits Brooklyn-Queens swastika spree, police say,
Newsday, October 18, 2004
"A woman admitted shortly after her arrest late Monday that she spray-painted swastikas in Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens because she was angry about her Jewish ex-husband's new wife, police said. The woman, Olga Abramovich, 49, of Brooklyn, was charged with criminal mischief and related crimes, police said. Police said Abramovich admitted targeting about 20 sites, including several synagogues, because she was angry at her former husband for marrying a younger woman. They said she also marred two police cars because she was upset about receiving a summons."

Anti-Jewish or anti-Israel? New racism report sparks debate in France,
By Marc Burleigh, Electronic Intifada (Agence France Presse), October 20, 2004
"A new report on racism in France has sparked controversy by recommending anti-Israel acts and comments be punished by courts as severely as instances of anti-Semitism. The 50-page report, released Tuesday, four months after being ordered by Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin, warns that racism of all sorts in France "radically threatens the survival of the democratic system". Its author, award-winning writer, doctor and president of a humanitarian aid association, Jean-Christophe Ruffin, suggested a raft of measures to combat racism and singles out anti-Semitism as a problem to be combatted separately. But one recommendation -- that "unfounded" anti-Israel stances be criminalised to the same extent as anti-Jewish acts -- has stirred debate in France, where media and political commentary is often critical of Israel's treatment of Palestinians. Anti-Israel positions among radical anti-racist campaigners risked "a contamination which could put the lives of our Jewish citizens in danger," Ruffin argued. He suggested a law "to punish those who might level unfounded racism allegations against groups, institutions or states, and use against them unjustified comparisons with apartheid or Nazism." Other recommendations in Ruffin's report included: video surveillance of Jewish cemeteries, clearer statistical databases permitting international comparisons, better national coordination, and heightened vigilance of Internet sites. The study challenged stereotypes that perpetrators of hate-crimes often came from disadvantaged French suburbs predominantly populated by immigrant families from Muslim north African countries such as Algeria and Morocco. "The new anti-Semitism appears more heterogeneous," it said. Anti-racist organisations, while welcoming many of the measures envisioned in the report, turned on the controversial suggestion about assimilating criticism or acts against Israel with anti-Semitism. Ruffin was "acting like an arsonist fireman," the head of France's League of Human Rights, Michel Tuniana, said. He said the focus on anti-Semitism created an "imbalance" in the approach to fighting all racism, and added that, if the recommendation became law, the umbrella groups the International Federation for Human Rights would be punished because it viewed Israel's treatment of Israeli Arabs as "discriminatory". Jewish groups in France, however, supported the recommendation. Ruffin "denounces, very sharply, the anti-Semites who hide behind a sort of anti-Zionism," the head of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, Haim Musicant, said ... On Wednesday, Israel's ambassador to France, Nissim Zwilli, hailed the report in an interview with Israeli public radio as "exceptional ... because it establishes a direct link between anti-Semitism and the anti-Zionist and hostile positions in Israel."

On Anti-Semitism,
By Gilad Atzmon, Al-Jazeera, October 15, 2004
Editorial Note: Gilad Atzmon published this article first on December 12, 2003. The reason it is republished by Al-Jazeerah today is that it represents an excellent analysis of the Zionist tactic of anti-Semitism, which is used to attack those who criticize the Israeli occupation atrocities in Palestine. It's also relevant to the new law that President Bush signed US To Rate Its Allies On Their Treatment Of Jews.]
"In the light of the growing discussion initiated by Israeli politicians and Zionist enthusiasts regarding the eruption of new anti-Semitism I am here to announce as loudly as I can: there is no anti-Semitism any more. In the devastating reality created by the Jewish state, anti-Semitism has been replaced by political reaction. I am not suggesting that Jewish interests are not being mutilated and vandalized. I am not saying that synagogues aren't being attacked, that Jewish graves are not brutally smashed up. I am saying that these acts, that are in no way legitimate, should be seen as political responses rather than racially motivated acts or 'irrational' hate crimes. If Israel is the state of the Jewish people and the Jewish people themselves do not stand up collectively against the crimes that are committed on their behalf, then every Jewish person, Jewish symbol and Jewish object becomes an Israeli interest and a potential terrorist target. It is up to the Jewish people to take a stand against their Jewish state and to disassociate themselves from their zealous national movement. If, for instance, we woke up tomorrow morning to find that another American so-called 'soft target' had been blown to pieces, no one would think to suggest that it was a 'racially motivated anti-American attack'. We would be naturally inclined to view the incident as an 'act of terror' against 'American interests'. Our political analysts would probably tell us that it was a form of retaliation against 'American colonialism', 'expansionism', 'support of Zionism' and so forth. Since Zionists want Israel to be seen as 'a nation among nations' we should not treat them as a unique case. We should treat them as we do the Americans and the British who have already realised that their various expansionist interests around the world are under severe threat. If we go along with the Zionist call to regard Jewish-ness as a nationalistic category rather than a religious one, we should be consistent and regard any act against Jews as a political reaction rather than an irrational racist attack. In other words: the success of Zionism drains away any possibility of anti-Semitism. The last statement is perplexing because it is the Zionists who tell us all the time that anti-Semitism is on the rise. Zionism is fuelled by anti-Semitism. The Zionists need anti-Semitic acts in order to justify the state of Israel as the only viable option for Jewish existence. Zionists have long understood that it is anti-Semitic acts that push Jews to support the idea of a Jewish state. Accordingly, in order to promote Zionist interests, Israel must generate significant anti-Jewish sentiment. Cruelty against Palestinian civilians is a favourite Israeli means of achieving this aim... Let's review some current typical Zionist arguments:
a. The 'Elders of Zion' syndrome: Zionists complain that Jews continue to be associated with a conspiracy to rule the world via political lobbies, media and money. Is the suggestion of conspiracy really an empty accusation? The following list is presented with pride in several Jewish American websites.
Jews in Bush's Administration:
Ari Fleischer White House Press Secretary
Josh Bolten Deputy Chief of Staff

Let me assure you, in Clinton's administration the situation was even worse. Even though the Jews only make up 2.9 per cent of the country's population, an astounding 56 per cent of Clinton's appointees were Jews. A coincidence? I don't think so.
We have to ask ourselves what motivates American Jews to gain such political power. Is it a genuine care for American interests? Soon, following the growing number of American casualties in Iraq, American people will start to ask themselves this very question. Since America currently enjoys the status of the world's only super power and since all the Jews listed above declare themselves as devoted Zionists, we must begin to take the accusation that the Jewish people are trying to control the world very seriously. It is beyond doubt that Zionists, the most radical, racist and nationalistic Jews around, have already managed to turn America into an Israeli mission force. The world's number one super power is there to support the Jewish state's wealth and security matters. The one-sided pro-Zionist take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the American veto against every 'anti-Israeli' UN resolution, the war against Iraq and now the militant intentions against Syria, all prove beyond doubt that it is Zionist interests that America is serving. American Jewry makes any debate on whether the 'Protocols of the elder of Zion' are an authentic document or rather a forgery irrelevant. American Jews do try to control the world, by proxy. So far they are doing pretty well for themselves at least. Whether the Americans enjoy the deterioration of their state's affairs will no doubt be revealed soon."

["Anti-Semitism" isn't "everyone's problem." It's an expressly Jewish issue, as old a Jewish identity. Jews always aim to mystify it. It's not really too hard to understand. Modern anti-Semitism is really the logical and inevitable response to exploitive Jewish social and political tribal activism. And here below Jews get to deface Christianity's Virgin Mary in the name of fighting "anti-Semitism." Neat trick. This is the terrain of Freud's sublimation, or projection. "We Jews don't mean to be disrespectrful of Christianity. Nawwwww...." Jews appropriate other people's sacred icons for whatever the Hell they want -- usually, as in this case, communal aggrandizement. If the French Jewish community wants to "shock," as stated, and the game is really to drag Christian icons in the mud and turn a sacred image into an advertising gimmick on dirty subway walls, we suggest leaving the Virgin Mary alone and start using posters of transparent elephant turds over pictures of prominent rabbis with text saying, oh, say: "When will you ever stop pissing on Catholics?" An eye for an eye, and all that, right? Mind you, there's no disrepect for Jews intended. We swear on a stack of Bibles (Old Testament).]
French Ads Aim to Fight Anti-Semitism,
by KATE BRUMBACK, Newsday (from Assoicated Press), October 22, 2004
"A new advertising campaign to fight anti-Semitism in France aims to shock. The campaign features serene images of Jesus and Mary with the slur "Dirty Jew" scrawled across them as if in graffiti. Underneath the picture appears the slogan: "Anti-Semitism: What if it were everyone's problem?" The advertisements, which will run in French newspapers beginning Tuesday over a period of about 10 days, were created by the Union of Jewish Students of France, or UEJF. The UEJF said it recognizes the startling nature of the images but that the goal is to grab people's attention. "It's a way to wake people up and make them aware," said Yonathan Arfi, the group's president, in a telephone interview. "That's what is important. Today, it is difficult to wake people up without running the risk of shocking them a bit." He stressed that no disrespect for Catholic images or Catholicism was intended. "On the contrary, we are, more or less, paying homage to Jesus and Mary as the first to protest racism, the first who took it upon themselves to defend others," Arfi said. The Conference of Bishops of France declined Friday to comment on the campaign. The UEJF cited rising anti-Semitism in France as the impetus behind the campaign."

[It's the Death of the Western democracy to Jewish Totalitarianism which demands --in all its permutations -- to be beyond criticism. Criticize Israel? A fine and jail. Maybe a public whipping. Think about it. Here the the Jewish scam tool of "anti-Semitism is laid bare. If it's crystal clear to people across the political spectrum that the Jewish charge of anti-Semitism is merely a sinister device to ban criticism of Israel, why can't everyone see that it's just as much a Jewish scam to censor everything else unpleasant throughout Jewish tribal activism? Mention Jewish power? Go to jail. Mention Jewish racism? A steep fine. ]
Anti-Israel or anti-Jewish?,
Radio Netherlands, October 22, 2004
"A new report on racism in France has caused upset in some unexpected quarters. The report recommends that anti-Israel acts and remarks be punished as severely as cases of anti-Semitism. Applauded by Jewish groups in France as well as members of the Paris government, the recommendation has met with heavy criticism from French commentators and anti-racist groups, who say it's dangerous to equate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism.The 50-page report, released on Tuesday, four months after being ordered by Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin, paints a bleak picture. Racism and anti-Semitism are no longer marginal phenomena in France; they're "at the heart of the evolution of French society." Ultimately, they will "radically threaten the survival of the democratic system".The report, which suggests a raft of measures to counter the perceived trend, singles out anti-Semitism as a problem to be combated separately. It challenges the prevailing view that anti-Semitism is limited to immigrant Muslim families in disadvantaged French suburbs. "The new anti-Semitism appears more heterogeneous," it says. New law The study recommends focusing on the forces fomenting hostility against France's 600,000 Jews. That includes verbal attacks on Israel, a common occurrence in France where media and political commentary are often critical of the Jewish state's treatment of Palestinians. "Unfounded anti-Israel stances should be criminalized to the same extent as anti-Jewish acts," the report says. This requires new legislation to "punish those who might level unfounded racism allegations against groups, institutions or states, and use against them unjustified comparisons with Apartheid or Nazism." It's this recommendation that has stirred heated debate in France. "There's a strong need for clarification after a report of this nature," comments Antoine Bernard, executive director of the International Federation of Human Rights ... Mr Bernard says established international bodies including his own rights group could be at risk of punishment if the recommendation became law. "If the French government were to follow such a recommendation to criminalize what the report calls ‘radical anti-Zionism', then not only the International Federation for Human Rights would be considered as criminal, but also the International Court of Justice after its advisory opinion on the wall [Israel's separation barrier in the West Bank] and the Israeli Supreme Court, after its May 2004 decision that international humanitarian law, yes, is applicable to the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories." "So, this is not only a proposal in this report which is shocking, but it's also stupid. We will always fight for the legitimate right to criticize systematic violations of human rights and humanitarian law, be they by terrorist groups targeting civilians in Israel in suicide bombings or the policy of a state and a government through its policy in the Occupied Territories."

Bush's New Anti-Semitism Law May Criminalize Thought,
by Sam Francis, V-Dare, October 18, 2004
"The bill passed both houses of Congress by voice vote and was signed into law by President Bush last week. It's a very silly and dangerous measure ... The bill did not, of course, pass Congress because there was such a massive groundswell of grassroots support for it. It passed because Jewish organizations demanded it, and no sitting politician wants to get on the wrong side of these groups. That's why the bill passed the Senate by agreement and the House by voice vote there's no debate and no record of how anyone voted. Pushed by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith and most other major Jewish organizations, the bill requires the Department to record acts of physical violence against Jews, their property, cemeteries and places of worship abroad, and the response of local governments to them. As the Department notes, it already issues reports on "human rights" abuses, and there's no special reason why attacks on Jews should be recorded separately. Why not reports about attacks on other groups -- black people, white people, women, Christians? ... What's wrong with [this law] is that it opens one more door to the criminalization of thought and expression. The bill requires only that acts of physical violence against Jews be recorded, not expressions of anti-Semitism, but you can bet the bill's promoters will soon be pushing to include what they claim are "anti-Semitic" expressions to be reported as well. As press reports noted, "among the attacks that prompted passage of the bill" was "the recent claim by former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad that Jews 'rule the world by proxy.'" That's the sort of stuff the State Department will now have to record and report about ... What really drives the crusade to criminalize thought and expression is not any legitimate revulsion against real violence (which is already illegal) but the compulsion of powerful and well-organized lobbies to muzzle criticism. Neoconservatives are already claiming that criticism of them is really "anti-Semitism," which is what they also said about the recent FBI investigation of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for espionage for Israel, and what the Anti-Defamation League and many other Jewish spokesmen said about Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ," and what the same groups say about criticism of Israel or of U.S. policies toward Israel. It might be a lot simpler if the State Department had to report on what isn't anti-Semitism. The list would be a lot shorter. What is worrisome about the new law is not that the Department will have to duplicate what it already does but that what is not anti-Semitism at all, let alone violence, but merely criticism and dissent will be demonized and curbed. Maybe in some minds that was the real purpose of the law all along."

"YES, I knew about Truman's disregard for the Jews although I confess that I too did not find this diary, when I researched in his library. "I gave them the state they asked for," he said, commenting on their ingratitude, in another document that I did read, "but they're all still here." One by one the inner thoughts of the world's great and goodly people about their Jewish fellow-humans are revealed, as the archives disgorge their cruel secrets. Those who attended my Libel action against Deborah Lipstadt, where the defence lawyers (but not Lipstadt herself) accused me of anti-semitism, will recall that I invited their expert witness Prof Richard "Skunky" Evans to read (to himself) certain passages of the diaries of well-known statesmen, which I put to him while in the witness box, and I would then ask him questions. I was going to ask if these were not statesmen of the utmost esteem and respectability; and whether he did not agree that their private comments on the Jews far exceeded any statement that I might have made. Mr Justice Gray panicked, and refused to allow him to answer. There's Justice for ya."

Who Benefits from anti-Semitism? (- a sad story)
by Robert Thompson, Axis of logic, October 23, 2004
"A respectable lady went into a Bordeaux supermarket and stuck labels on dates which had come from the "State of Israel", on which it was pointed out that the state of origin of the fruit was founded on racist principles and asking customers to boycott anything coming from there.   This strategy was well-known and popularly supported by people protesting against the apartheid of the former South African régime. The Manager of the supermarket called the Police and the lady was arrested and taken to the Police Headquarters on a charge relating to racial discrimination. After a time, she was released, and later the same day the Police called at her home and re-arrested her, following which she had to spend the night in a cell despite her wish to return home to her husband. After further interrogation, she was charged with an offence in no way connected with racial discrimination, but alleging that she had damaged the goods on display.   As a retired lawyer, I have asked to see the exact wording of the charge, since it is hard without seeing this to know what is likely to happen next.   Many of us across France are watching with interest. The lesson of all this sad story is that this lady is the victim of a campaign whereby certain Zionist organisations are trying as hard as they can to accuse anyone who opposes Zionism (such as this lady and many other law-abiding citizens including myself) of being "anti-semitic".  As we know, Mr Ariel Sharon accused our country of being "anti-semitic" because, in the majority, we are willing to express our support for the sufferings of the Palestinians, and he further invited our Jewish fellow citizens to join him and his like in the Zionist expansion, with particular emphasis on the illegal colonies in Palestine."

[Former U.S. President Harry S. Truman: Yet another "anti-Semite?" Prophetic words from Truman and the CIA ...]
Inside Track . A Disaster Waiting to Happen,
by Amir Oren, Haaretz (Israel), October 22, 2004
"Half a year later, on July 21, in an entry that suggested Truman had a certain prejudice, when the diary was originally made public, the president records a more vexatious experience. His interlocutor this time, during just 10 minutes, perhaps by phone, was not Faisal Ibn Saud or even the president of the World Zionist Organization, Chaim Weizmann, with whom Truman refused to meet, but the former secretary of the treasury, Henry Morgenthau, who spoke to him about illegal Jewish immigration to Palestine: "Had 10 minutes conversation with Henry Morgenthau about Jewish ship in Palistine [sic; the reference is to the "Exodus"]. Told him I would talk to Gen[eral] Marshall about it." Truman cut the conversation short. He then added: "He'd no business, whatever to call me. The Jews have no sense of proportion nor do they have any judgment on world affairs. Henry brought a thousand Jews to New York on a supposedly temporary basis and they stayed ... The Jews, I find are very, very selfish. They care not how many Estonians, Latvians, Finns, Poles, Yugoslavs or Greeks get murdered or mistreated as D[isplaced] P[ersons] as long as the Jews get special treatment. Yet when they have power, physical, financial or political neither Hitler nor Stalin has anything on them for cruelty or mistreatment to the under dog. Put an underdog on top and it makes no difference whether his name is Russian, Jewish, Negro, Management, Labor, Mormon, Baptist he goes haywire. I've found very, very few who remember their past condition when prosperity comes" ...Despite the internal tensions within the Jewish community [said a Truman-era CIA report], "it can be expected that all Jewish groups in Palestine will join forces against the Arabs in defense of the newly formed Jewish state ... In the long run no Zionist in Palestine will be satisfied with the territorial arrangements of the partition settlement. Even the more conservative of the Zionists will hope to attain the whole of the Nejeb [sic], Western Galilee, the city of Jerusalem, and eventually all of Palestine. The extremists demand not only all of Palestine but Transjordan as well. They have stated that they will refuse to recognize the validity of any Jewish government which will settle for anything less, and will probably take aggressive action to achieve their ends. The Zionists will continue to wage a strong propaganda campaign in the U.S. and Europe. The `injustice' of the proposed Jewish boundaries will be exaggerated, and the demand for more territory will be made as Jewish immigration floods the Jewish sector. In the chaos which will follow the implementation of partition, atrocities will undoubtedly be committed by Arab fanatics; such actions will be given wide publicity and will even be exaggerated by Jewish propaganda. The Arabs will be accused of aggression, whatever the actual circumstances may be. This propaganda campaign will doubtless continue to influence the U.S. public, and the U.S. government may, consequently, be forced into actions which will further complicate and embitter its relations with the entire Arab world" ... If Truman had chosen to strangle Israel at birth, in light of the recommendation of his darling Secretary of State Marshall, and in the spirit of the CIA report, he would not have had to face any commission of inquiry. Only the judgment of history."

[Jewish ideology says this: EVERYONE is at least a latent "anti-Semite." Left-wing, right-wing, chicken-wing, and all in between. The alleged omnipresence of the crazed, irrational "anti-Semite" defines Jewish identity and gives even the most racist Jew an self-elevated identity as a member of the Martyr Klan. All Jewish "obsession" about "racism" is in the Jewish community's propagandistic self-interest and aggrandizement. Per capita, Jews are most affluent ethnic group in America. Jewish affluence in Australia parallels the American Jewish model. Money doesn't come to people for good deeds. Money comes to those who hustle and exploit others for it. This guy below is a moral fraud. Like so many, many Jews, he flaunts his alleged opposition to racism IN DEFENSE OF RACIST ISRAEL and is laid bare as the usual chronic hypocrite. He is the quintessential hustler for Jewish apartheid tribalism, and ethnocentrism. How Jews use African-Americans as stepping stones, here.]
The Anti-Semitic Labor Party. Former ALP minister minister Barry Cohen used to proud of his party becuase it fought prejudice. Not any longer, by Barry Cohen, The Age (Australia), October 25, 2004
"Australia is probably the least anti-Semitic country in the world, but what happened to my family made a deep impression on me. I became obsessive about discrimination; be it fighting for civil rights in the US, or against apartheid or the appalling treatment of our indigenous people. I was, however, an armchair critic mouthing off endlessly about what the government should do. Then a friend hit a sensitive nerve. "What are you doing about it?" he asked. It wasn't difficult to decide. I knew the enemy was on the political right: Nazis, fascists, conservatives, whether from the extreme right that led to the Holocaust or the social exclusion practised by the genteel middle class. In 1964 I joined the ALP. Not that the Labor Party of the early 1960s was a beacon of light, for there were many ALP members still steeped in the White Australia philosophy and indifferent to the suffering of Aborigines. But those who spoke up about such injustices were almost all from the ALP. By the time I arrived in Canberra in 1969 as the MP for Robertson I felt at home in the company of those led by Gough Whitlam, who forced the Labor Party to change I was accused of being obsessive on the question of racism and to that charge I plead guilty. I became deeply involved in the fight for Aboriginal rights and to this day one of the proudest moments of my life was to be one of a small group of "yesterday's heroes, looking frail and aged", who were brought on stage at the Reconciliation Conference in Melbourne in 1997 to be honoured for our work in the 1967 referendum. Ihave often been asked if my being Jewish was ever an issue during my 20 years in Federal Parliament. Not to the best of my knowledge. I cannot recall a single anti-Semitic remark from either side of the House. That did not mean that everyone agreed with my views on Israel. Nor did I expect them to. However, while my views remain the same, the Labor Party's these days are very different. The Labor Party has always had Palestinian supporters but they used to have little influence on the party's policy. They were more than counter-balanced by the influence of then ACTU president Bob Hawke. In the immediate aftermath of the Yom Kippur War and before my first visit to Israel I attended a meeting he addressed in Sydney. I have not heard a more passionate, nor better informed, defence of Israel or more scathing indictment of its opponents Convinced that MPs could understand Israel's problems better if they went there, I organised a series of delegations. By the time I retired in 1990 more than half the ALP caucus had visited Israel But gradually, Labor's Left and more extremist elements, such as the Greens and Democrats, became increasingly shrill in their denunciation of Israel ... That trend has infected the ALP. The handful of pro-Palestinian supporters has grown steadily as the party has become dominated by the education mafia; former public servants and party union apparatchiks Plenty will say: "Why shouldn't the Labor Party support the Palestinians?" No reason, providing the case they put is not based on the lies spouted by the Palestinian propaganda machine ... There are Labor MPs who are vigorous supporters of Israel but their numbers are diminishing and they are being drowned out by the more vociferous members of Labor's hard Left. When Australian Jews respond to the grotesque exaggeration about Israel, we are accused of being part of the "Jewish lobby". Israel's opponents in Australia now include those who support the Palestinians not for ideological reasons but because of the increased number of Arab voters in their electorates ... Anyone who believes that "reining in the Israelis" will bring peace and prosperity to the Middle East should change their medication. The ranting and raving, common among the extreme right, has been taken up with gusto by the left. When it started to infect the social democratic wing of the Labor Party I became extremely worried. There will be those in the ALP who will say "our policies support Israel's right to exist, so what are you complaining about?" That's not good enough. Not for me. I'm sick of the calumny heaped on Israel - most of which is a pack of lies. I'm sick of Labor leaders making all the right noises to Jewish audiences while an increasing number of backbenchers launch diatribes at Israel. When the likes of Labor MP Tanya Plibersek rise in the House of Representatives and call Ariel Sharon "a war criminal" and Israel a "rogue state", or Opposition whip Janice Crosio makes the absurd claim that Israeli forces had destroyed Bethlehem, Nablus and the Jenin refugee camp, I want to hear more than stony silence from those in the Labor Party who say they support Israel. Some do. Most don't. How long is it since any Labor leader gave the sort of passionate and accurate defence of Israel we used to hear from Hawke or Kim Beazley? I don't want even-handedness when it ought to be obvious to all but the blind that there is no moral equivalence between a country that seeks to defend its citizens from thousands of terrorist attacks, and the terrorists themselves. I want to hear Labor MPs stand up and be counted. I want to see an end to well-known Labor identities marching behind banners equating Israel with Nazism ... There will be some who will argue that I am exaggerating; that the evidence is sparse; that this typical Jewish paranoia. Not at all. It came from the horses' mouths, and the head horses at that. Before the Iraq war one of the most senior NSW right-wing MPs told me: "I understand and support Israel's position, but in my group, I'm the only one. Soon after I told a Labor legend: "Anti-Semitism is now rampant in the Labor Party." I expected a vigorous denial. His response confirmed my worst fear: "I know," he said."

[This is a metaphor for our age. A stupid and offensive Jewish act created to fight "anti-Semitism" is guaranteed to create it. The Jewish Lobby is so arrogant, pushy, pompous, and self-absorbed it cannot see what it is doing.]
French Drop Anti-Semitism Awareness Plan, French Jewish Group Drops Planned Anti-Semitism Campaign Deemed Too Shocking,
ABC News, October 24, 2004
"A Jewish group said Sunday it plans to "modify" its publicity campaign to fight anti-Semitism that showed an image of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary with the slur "Dirty Jew" scrawled across it to mimic graffiti after it drew negative reactions. "Faced with the reactions to this campaign against anti-Semitism, the Union of Jewish Students of France has decided to modify the visuals," the group said in a statement. The advertisements were due to be published in French newspapers this week. Last week newspapers ran articles previewing the ads, which were designed to shock and draw attention to France's ongoing battle against anti-Semitism. "We have to accept that something strong is needed today to fight against anti-Semitism," Yonathan Arfi, the group's president, said. "And we thought these advertisements were good. We thought they were strong." Arfi said that "reaction came from everywhere" and eclipsed the goal of the campaign, which was not to spark anger or show disrespect for Catholicism."

[The above image is one of the posters created by French Jews in their campaign to ban "anti-Semitism" -- i.e., criticism of Jewish racism and ethnocentrism. The trick was to smear sacred Christian icons with graffiti featuring Jewish narcisissism and glue the posters all over the urban environment -- on the back of filthy buses, on cement walls with ads for new CDs, etc. What does the scrawl across Jesus say? "Dirty Jew." Insofar as Jesus is -- on Jewish tribal terms -- the King of Jewish "self-haters" and vehemently fought the Jewish injustice of his own time, one might deduce that it is Jesus himself in the poster who is speaking the slur. Is Jesus the original "anti-Semite" ("self-hating Jew") fighting the noble battle against Jewish Power?]

[America -- bastion of free speech and democracy? Think again. Which American newspaper or TV news program has examined the new "anti-Semitism" law from the Arab/Muslim position (that the law itself is an act of bigotry against the Muslim world which is struggling to free itself from the Zionist imperialism)? The Jewish lock on muzzling free speech in any meaningful way is virtually total. Note, however, how the one Arab newspaper that supports the Jewish Bigotry Is OK law is used to conclude this article.]
US anti-Semitism law perturbs Arab press,
BBC (UK), October 20, 2004
"Many Arab newspapers have condemned the new US law authorising the State Department to monitor anti-Semitism worldwide and produce annual reports critical of those countries where it is seen to be prevalent. President George W Bush announced a few days ago that he had signed into law the bill authorising the US to rate countries on the way they treat Jews. Most commentators believe it panders to the Jewish lobby in the US and is aimed against Arabs and Muslims. However, one dissenting voice considers it a positive move in the battle against racism. The London-based pan-Arab daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi considers the law "basically racist legislation which is anti-Arab and Muslim under the guise of outlawing anti-Semitism". Accusations of bias "President Bush does not want to acknowledge that Arabs are also a Semitic people who have suffered a great deal from wars launched by him alongside his friend [Israeli Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon." Saudi Arabia's Al-Jazirah argues that the promulgation of the law "shows the extent to which the US is prepared to go to protect such an aggressive and renegade state" as Israel. It accuses Washington of "abandoning the principles of international law and justice to put its weight behind such a pariah entity". For another popular pan-Arab daily, Al-Hayat , "this law affirms once again that whatever is in Israel's interest is in America's interest and vice-versa". A commentary in the paper is headlined "God's chosen people". The Palestinian paper Al-Ayyam is convinced that any State Department list of states where anti-Semitism is considered to be a problem will "be a 100% Israeli". 'Foolish policies' Al-Arab al-Alamiyah, a pan-Arab daily with a pro-Libyan stance, argues that the issue "should not be about anti-Semitism but about Israel's racist policies". "Israel refuses to accept this truth and Washington accepts Israel's argument in its entirety when it comes to the definition of anti-Semitism." No wonder, Al-Arab al-Alamiyah believes, that "enmity towards America and its foolish policies in the world is growing". However, another influential pan-Arab daily, Al-Sharq al-Awsat , is convinced the law could turn out to be a force for good."

TWO MEN INDICTED FOR DESECRATING JEWISH CEMETERY,
U.S. Department of Justice, October 19, 2004
"
The Justice Department today announced the indictment of two Oregon men who are charged with the bias motivated desecration of a Portland Jewish Cemetery. On October 19, 2004, Sean Andrew Sigley and Steven Hale Smith were indicted in the U.S. District Court in Portland. According the indictment, which was unsealed today, Sigley and Smith conspired to vandalize the Congregation Shaarie Torah Cemetery with anti-Semitic graffiti in order to frighten and intimidate area Jewish residents. Specifically, the indictment alleges that on May 24, 2003, the two men desecrated the cemetery with swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases. If convicted, each man faces a maximum possible sentence of eleven years in prison. An indictment is an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Portland Police Bureau. It is being jointly prosecuted by attorneys from the Civil Rights Division and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon. Prosecuting the perpetrators of bias-motivated crimes remains a top priority of the Justice Department. Since 2001, the Civil Rights Division has charged 126 defendants in 81 cases of bias-motivated crime."

[11 years in prison for for defacing a Jewish tomb. What do the Jews of Israel get for the following? Don't like this Arab source? Do your own research. Hundreds of Muslim cemeteries were demolished and obliterated by Jews in Israel. All things being equal (which they're not), we'd probably looking at 45,000 years in prison for the Jews of apartheid Israel.]

They also destroyed 410 Muslim cemeteries. They occupied all Muslim religious properties (Waqf property) in the twelve cities they occupied and in many village

'ANTI-SEMITES' AT COLUMBIA,
by Heidi Singer, New York Post, October 28, 2004

"Columbia University will investigate claims by Jewish students that some Middle Eastern professors use the classroom as a pulpit for spreading hate against Jews and Israel, officials said yesterday. College President Lee Bollinger announced the investigation after a group of students unveiled a 25-minute documentary accusing a handful of professors in the Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures Department of intimidating and suppressing anyone who disagreed with their anti-Israel views. "Teaching cannot be used as a platform for indoctrination," said Ariel Beery, a student featured in the film. "Teaching and preaching should not be mixed." The activists want the university to give its international student body a crash course in Jewish sensitivity, to "unlearn" what they claim is anti-Semitism. They also want the administration to make it easier for students to complain about offensive behavior by professors."

WJC launches new initiative to fight world anti-Semitism,
by Shlomo Shamir, Haaretz (Israel), October 26, 2004
"A new and innovative action plan to fight anti-Semitism will be presented by representatives of the World Jewish Congress at a convention slated to open in Jerusalem on Tuesday. The plan, branded by leading Jewish figures in New York as "ambitious and unconventional" aims to substantially modify existing priorities in the fight against anti-Semitism. The action plan proposes a fundamental change in the distribution of efforts in the fight against anti-Semitism. While today most of this effort is concentrated in countries with big Jewish communities, the new plan will also take into account countries with smaller Jewish communities. "There are 66 small Jewish communities, and of these, many are exposed to different levels of anti-Semitism and hate," claimed Dr. Israel Singer, Chairman of the WJC. "Yet most of the resources invested today in the fight against anti-Semitism focus mainly on large countries and completely ignore the concerns of the small communities in countries that are not considered central or important," Dr. Singer added. The WJC action plan also includes a proposition to create an "early warning system" to which small countries could report expressions of anti-Semitism and ask for help and council."

[The paper, the National Post, in which the propaganda below appeared is part of the Jewish/Zionist Asper family CanWest media monopoly in Canada. Stand up and fight anti-Semitism,
by Basil (Buzz) Hargrove, National Post, November 1, 2004
"Hatred needs a place to express itself, and will find negatively stereotyped targets. Treating a group as inferior is the means to an end ... Jews have experienced persecution for thousands of years. As far back as A.D. 38, Jews were murdered, beaten and raped because their religious belief in one God was fundamentally threatening to other religions' beliefs in many deities. Later, Christian doctrine translated history in ways that fanned the flames of anti-Jewish sentiment. In Nazi Germany, when the proponents of the "superior" Aryan race needed someone to be superior to, it was a great help to the Nazis that anti-Semitism had a long history, that property and other assets could be plundered, and that exploitation of the labour of Jews provided a significant low-cost boost to the German economy. The struggle of the Jewish people for the dignity and respect that is their due is a model of courage and determination to make visible and destroy the shroud of "acceptable" target. Jews' deep, visceral understanding of how easily society can degenerate into a frenzy of hatred has forced them to become experts at detecting and exposing anti-Semitism in all its forms. They have learned in the hardest imaginable ways that any unchallenged attack legitimizes such treatment. We must all understand this. When we see anti-Semitism expressing itself in our society in the form of graffiti, defaced tombstones, or racist leaftlets, we must all be as outraged as the Jewish community. Recent acts of anti-Semitism in Canada indicate that this poisonous hatred still persists in our society, always bubbling just below the surface. Periodically its acidic plume spews into our midst, corroding our communities. The vast majority of Canadians react with outrage and disgust to anti-Semitism. The vast majority of Canadians understand there can never be an "acceptable" targeted group. Public acts of support for the Jewish community are a necessary community antidote to public anti-Semitism. But personal outrage is not enough. We all need to be visible and vocal in solidarity with the Jewish community in its struggle against anti-Semitism. This is not to be confused with agreement or support for the actions of the Israeli government in the Middle East; on this complex issue, reasonable people do have many different opinions. It does mean having the courage to publicly stand up and be counted in the struggle against discrimination in the form of anti-Semitism. At a recent CAW leadership meeting, more than 1,000 elected delegates from workplaces across Canada unanimously endorsed my recommendation that CAW locals, in communities where anti-Semitic acts take place, offer support to the Jewish community, demand that police do everything possible to bring hatemongers to justice, and agree that local unions would put up reward money for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. They have taken up this challenge and are actively working to prevent further anti-Semitic acts. In times of public hatred, private beliefs are not enough. This is a time in our history as an open and free society when nothing else will do but to stand up and be counted." Basil (Buzz) Hargrove is national president of the Canadian Auto Workers

[No, this is not satire, an excerpt from a bad cartoon, or schizophrenic scrawlings on a bathroom wall. It's for real (perhaps from a 5th grader?). This kind of inane commentary underscores the total farce of the accusation of "anti-Semitism." Calling someone an "anti-Semite" in 2004 has become a tawdry joke.]
Jewish Anti-Semitism,
by Rachel Neuwirth, Washington Dispatch, November 3, 2004
"
The existence of “black sheep” in families is not all that unusual. What stands out among various ethnic groups is the unique degree of malevolence exhibited by the Jewish black sheep against their fellow Jews, which would then qualify them as Jewish anti-Semites. Simply having Jewish ancestors is no obstacle to being an anti-Semite. We can consider a spectrum of moral behavior ranging from the most ethical to the most evil. This article deals only with consciously (in my opinion) anti-Semitic Jews and not with those Jews who are only misguided into supporting evil but who do not consciously intend to do harm. Jewish anti-Semites usually pose as Jews with a legitimate goal, such as promoting peace or simply exercising their right of free speech for a noble purpose. It is hard for many people to believe that those of Jewish ancestry could actually be anti-Semites. To the uninitiated and the unsuspecting their arguments can even seem persuasive, all of which can be confusing in determining who is right and who is wrong. This article suggests some measures by which to detect the Jewish anti-Semites. It will also cite specific examples of such. In addition it helps to have a grasp of history, plus individual judgment and common sense in detecting the presence of actual Jewish anti-Semitism. In general the following characteristics are often indicative of Jewish anti-Semites: -Demanding full rights for all Arabs living inside Israel while also demanding that Jews must be expelled from any area where Arabs dominate numerically and from where they attack Jews. -Willingness to use deception and disinformation in the form of outright fabrications, exaggerations and selective omissions to attack Israel and its efforts at self-defense. -Double standard: Great concern for Arab suffering vs. minimal lip service for Jewish suffering. -No attempts to show solidarity with Jewish causes and to alleviate Jewish suffering with visits to victims of terror or to help fund food for hungry and unemployed Israelis. -Minimal personal involvement with traditional Jewish religious observance. -Will arbitrarily alter Judaic teachings and practice to support their anti-Israeli political agenda. -Advocating Israeli territorial concessions regardless of any resulting danger to security needs. -Ignoring, minimizing or even excusing the preaching and teaching of murderous hatred towards Israel, Zionism and Jews by Arab leaders and in Arab schools. Arguing that any support for Israel is somehow disloyal and harmful to American interests. -Citing their being ‘Jewish’ as conferring some type of authority to speak legitimately as Jews or on behalf of other Jews. Attempting to exploit their accident of birth for political advantage, even against fellow Jews, could be considered a form of racism. -Ignoring basic Jewish concerns such Jewish education, opposing anti-Semitism, lobbying for Jewish rights and for disadvantaged Jews. -Not addressing fellow Jews in the spirit of dialogue and respect for other’s views. Their ‘voice’ is often strident, harsh, accusatory and inciting outsiders to join in condemning Israel and Zionism including economic boycotts. -Strongly supporting the international left which, in turn, supports Israel’s enemies ... The Holocaust survivor as Jewish anti-Semite These people present a special public relations problem to the general Jewish community. How can anyone possibly challenge the opinions of an elderly survivor after all they have suffered? Simply claiming that near-martyr status is like having a hand of cards holding four aces - it trumps everything else. Suddenly it does not matter if they were atheists, communists, self-hating Jews, or even just plain nuts before or after the Holocaust. It may be considered bad form to even raise such questions. Being a Holocaust survivor is the ultimate in moral credentials and to then attack Israel could even be seen as her displaying heroic courage and wisdom. A recent political attack on Israel by Hedy Epstein, a 79 year old Holocaust survivor seemed to follow a suspiciously familiar script. After first claiming Holocaust survivor status, and after a perfunctory acknowledgement of Jewish victims, she then launches her attack. She is a member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) which advocates for the Arabs and against Israel and she is on a speaking tour. She complains about witnessing Israeli measures to control hostile Arabs and cites examples of their “humiliation”. In her own words she personally and repeatedly reached out to comfort inconvenienced Arabs but cites no similar effort on her part to comfort bereaved Israeli families who are victims of Arab terror. Her double standard is evidenced in her own words. Hitler’s ‘final solution’ targeted all Jews without moral distinction. Therefore Holocaust survivors are not necessarily more moral or more wise than Jews in general, including Hedy Epstein, although we respect their suffering. We also have a duty to both the living and the dead to never become a party to slandering fellow Jews. To allow slander is to repeat the old demonizing of Jews that in the past has contributed to their mass murder. All of the above examples illustrate the wide range of Jewish anti-Semitism and the many forms it can take. It can even resemble a chameleon, a creature that can change its outward appearance at will in order to blend into its surroundings and thus become more difficult to detect. It is important to recognize the traditional gentile anti-Semites and it is just as important to recognize and to expose the Jewish anti-Semites."

[More Jewish doubletalk. Jews who criticize apartheid Israel are also part of the Great Catch-all Smear: they are "anti-Semites." The accusation of "anti-Semitism" is merely a sham for Jews of various political persuasions to push the whole universe into the ages-old box: there is WE chosen Jews, and then there is THEM, including Jews who resist being "chosen." The day is coming when the inane accusation of "anti-Semitism" for the enemies of Jewish racism will be taken seriously by no one.]
The rise of Jewish Anti-Semitism in Israel,
By Steven Plaut, Israel Insider, September 13, 2004
"Until very recently in Jewish history, it was widely presumed that secular Zionism and the establishment of Israel had achieved an irreversible victory over the movements of Jewish assimilationism and self-hatred, at least among Jews living inside the Jewish state, but also to a large extent among Diaspora Jews as well. Secular Zionism represented a blending of modernity with Jewishness that involved neither the assimilationism of the radical anti-Orthodox "reformers" among Jews in the Diaspora nor traditional Orthrodox rejectionism of modernity ... The axioms concerning the ability of secular Zionism to overcome the traditional threats to Jews of anti-Semitism, assimilationism and self-hatred came crashing back down to earth in the 1990s. There emerged inside Israel a movement of mass Jewish anti-Semitism, which effectively exerted its hegemony, first over the radical Left and the chattering classes of Israeli academia and journalism, and ultimately over the entire country in the form of the Leftist Ascendancy ... The rapid growth of Jewish anti-Semitism inside Israel during the "Oslo era" raises serious questions about just how successful secular Zionism really was. The Oslo era was accompanied by a massive assault on Israel's pride and confidence by its own leaders. Israeli intellectuals lectured the country about its original sinfulness. Israeli campuses were flooded with "New Historians" and "Post-Zionists", pseudo-academics rewriting history texts and school curriculum to promote the Arab "narrative" and the Arab version of history, the moral equivalents of Holocaust Deniers in other countries. Israeli politicians in the 1990s leapt forward, ready to strip the country of all of its Jewish national emblems, from the star on the flag to the words of the national anthem. And after 1300 years of discrimination against Jews by Arabs, Israeli politicians were implementing "reverse discrimination" programs, under which Arabs received preferences and Jews suffered quotas. One after the other, Israeli politicians during the early and mid-1990s mouthed the post-modernist gibberish of the anti-Israel choruses from overseas, about how Israelis needed to stop ruling over another "people," had to learn to understand the "other," had to commemorate the "tragedies" the Jews had imposed upon the innocent Arabs and so make restitution. If no Palestinian people had ever existed in history, Israeli politicians were determined to invent one for peace. World anti-Semitism exploded as a direct consequence of Israel's own politicians granting lip service and credibility to the anti-Jewish canards that had always been the propaganda underpinnings for hatred of Israel, including Israeli official acquiescence in accepting the rhetoric of the anti-Semites. Here were Israeli leaders agreeing that Israel was indeed a colonial "conqueror" and "outsider," an "oppressor" of Palestinians and the cause of Palestinian "suffering." Here were Israel's own leaders confirming that Palestinian barbarism and atrocities were ultimately the fault of Israeli "occupation" and Jewish insensitivity ... There are today Israeli professors and lecturers who openly serve as Court Jews for the worst anti-Semites on the planet, including Islamist fundamentalists, neonazis and Holocaust Deniers. Israeli leftist faculty members tour the world, denouncing Israel before audiences of anti-Semites as a nazi, fascist, terrorist, criminal, apartheid country, engaged in systematic human rights atrocities. Increasing numbers of self-hating Israeli academics openly call for Israeli national existence to be ended and for Israel to be replaced with a single state with an Arab majority and PLO hegemony. Israeli left-wing professors turn out mountains of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish political propaganda, often passing it off as "scholarly research." It is an open secret that on campus, leftist extremists with laughable and ludicrous publication records get hired, tenured and promoted, as acts of solidarity by other leftist faculty already inside the system. Israeli university governance is notoriously corrupt and politicized. Some of these tenured leftists then tour the world urging anti-Semites to boycott all of Israel, including the very same academic institutions in which they are employed and from which they draw salaries."

Jewish Community of Amherst to hold teach-in this weekend,
by Adrienne Bossi, The Daily Collegian, November 5, 2004
"There will be a daylong teach-in this Sunday about anti-Semitism sponsored by the Jewish Community of Amherst. Headlining the event will be a speech by Professor Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, an affiliate at Harvard University's Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. "There is an increase in anti-Semitism all over the world," said Yaffa Gunner an affiliate with the JCA. "We are very concerned." Goldhagen has a doctorate in government from Harvard University and has authored a variety of books. Among those are, "Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust," which was a finalist of the National Book Critics Circle and winner of Germany's prestigious Democracy Prize. He also wrote "Moral Reckoning: the Role of the Catholic Church in the Holocaust and its Unfulfilled Duty of Repair." According to the JCA press release, "The teach-in will examine the various forms that anti-Semitism have taken in the past and its present incarnation, and their psychological, social, and political ramifications ... The workshops will cover the following subjects, anti-Semitism and Jewish identity, the roots of anti-Semitism, anti-Semitism and ways of confronting it, the psychology of the bystander and criticism of Israeli politics and anti-Semitism. The workshops are led by a collection of local religious figures, university professors and PhD candidates, along with a member of the Anti-Defamation League."

Jewish org: Rye discriminates,
By Matt Kwong and Jordan Press, The Eyeopener, November 9, 2004
"A leading Jewish organization has labeled Ryerson discriminatory, but university officials say that's a mistake. On Friday, the Montreal Gazette reported that B' nai Brith Canada listed Ryerson as a university that doesn't protect Jewish students from discrimination in the classroom. B'nai Brith alleges Jewish students hide their views on the Middle East and the war on terror out of fear that they will offend their professors and get low grades. University spokesperson Bruce Piercey said Ryerson respects Jewish students' rights and that B'nai Brith told him that Ryerson's listing, was a mistake. Concordia and York were also listed. Piercey said if B'nai Brith has a problem with Ryerson, "they can pick up the phone and call us." Ryerson President Claude Lajeunesse echoed those sentiments. "They told us that it was a mistake and we should not have been included with that, and we do believe it was a mistake," Lajeunesse said. "Everybody makes mistakes. I felt that this was one that was particularly irritating." Hillel of Greater Toronto, which represents Jewish students on campuses across the city, said listing Ryerson will hurt the school's reputation with some members of the Jewish community ... B'nai Brith spokesperson Karen Lazar wouldn't confirm that the mention was a mistake. She said students had complained about Ryerson and her organization will be keeping an eye on the school. Lazar said B'nai Brith is not targeting anyone; schools are targeting Jewish students. However, Hillel at Ryerson hasn't heard of anything like that and was caught off-guard with the report. "Usually you would think students would come to Hillel. It (the report) totally shocked me," said David Goldberg, an executive with Hillel."

[More Jewish hasbara: public relations/propaganda. The strategy is to attempt to diffuse the Jewish Monolith (Anti-Defamation League/AIPAC, World Jewish Congress, etc. etc. and the millions of Jews who empower these corrupt organizations as somehow diverse organizaitions. Jewish power revolves around massive concerted action by millions of Jewish tribal bigots throughout the world. The depiction that Jews are a completely diverse congregation is fraud. Jews come in all sizes, they think a variety of things, they argue about a lot, but the overwhelming unifier is their allegiance to Israel. They might argue about how to successfully propagandize their Beloved Hellhole, but not that it is the backbone of modern Jewish identity. "Words paint the Jewish people as the enemy?" You mean like the Jewish word for non-Jews, goyim, which is always connotatively pejorative? Please. No more crap about Jews running in herds like angels from Godzilla-style "Anti-Semites" in the 15th century! We're interested in Jewish manipulation of public opinion -- like this article -- NOW. Note that the author doesn't explain the famous ruse of Spanish Jews. Known as the Marranos, they converted en masse to Christianity, in communal deceit, to fleece their non-Jewish counterparts and STILL remain "Jews"-- even religously -- in exploitive tribal unity. Modern trans-world, tribal, Zionist Jewry IS parasitic. It IS exploitive. It IS corrupt. It IS deceptive. It IS evil.]
Anti-Semitism: Past and present,
by Amanda Zimmerman, The Chronicle (Duke University), November 8, 2004
"Recently voices protesting Jewish politics have become louder and bold enough to criticize Jews universally. Chronicle columns and the Palestine Solidarity Movement are just the newest facets of a frightening trend that many feel is emerging on Duke’s campus and outside it. The fear began before most of us knew who Philip Kurian was. The fear comes from a knowledge of how words have been used historically to paint the Jewish people as the enemy. During the 15th century, Jews living in Spain were ordered to renounce their religion and embrace Catholicism. Many obliged, seizing the opportunity to be treated equally. Widespread resentment soon grew, however, over the financial success and political power of the converted Jews. Angered that these Jews had seamlessly slipped from oppressed minority to powerful majority status by becoming Catholic, the church called them out as heretics. They were tortured into admitting their sins in order to attain true purification. Once they did, they were executed for their crimes. Much like the Spanish Inquisition claimed to take issue with the religious conviction, not bloodlines, of Jews, so has the new anti-Semitism emerged as a voice protesting Jewish politics, not people. But it will be the people who suffer ... The new anti-Semitism is a much quieter and more insidious force. It comes from a newly-emerging American ideology dictating that anything goes as long as you’re attacking the people in power. The new anti-Semitism lumps the Jewish people together as a united force with a single, detrimental agenda. Rather than worry about diversity of opinion within the Jewish community, the new anti-Semitism dictates that if one Jew says it, they all must think it. The new anti-Semitism is not concerned with the distinction between Israel’s laws and her people. And because of this, the new anti-Semitism is unable to condemn the murder of innocent civilians or the description of Zionism as a “disease.” Finally, the new anti-Semitism ceases to worry about the consequences of hateful, dangerous words on the pages of the campus paper. If Jews can be painted as the people with power, as a group influential enough to withstand these attacks, the former examples of anti-Semitism on campus can be justified as representing the underdog, rooting for David. This subtle and worrisome re-framing of the campus power dynamic has been evident in many forms. Many of the responses by pro-Palestinian students to Jewish calls for the PSM to condemn terror focused on the immense power and financial influence of Jewish groups as compared to the much smaller pro-Palestinian student groups. Many who criticize Israel have similarly attempted to portray it as a bully smashing up the defenseless Arab world. Philip Kurian’s column entitled “The Jews” described American Jewry as an influential “establishment” faking minority status. Throughout history, resentment over Jewish money and power has fueled the most horrific instances of anti-Semitism. Hatred towards the Jewish people has been justified by portraying them as the group taking from the rest of society. A parasite on the Fatherland. After World War II, the old anti-Semitism began to dissipate because of the overwhelming unpopularity of hating a broken people. Only if Jews can be painted as a massive, controlling force can public opinion be aligned against them. In this way, the Jewish emergence from powerlessness in the form of Israel has become a liability to Jewish people as much as it has created a well-needed homeland. Now that Jews are powerful again, now that they have a country and the Palestinians have nothing, it has again become acceptable to criticize their every move. Accordingly, now that American Jews have attained success in this country, they can be described as an oppressive and dangerous establishment. The never-ending cycle of driving the Jews into the sea, forcing them to rebuild their temples and their lives, can restart."

Education Dept. to fight anti-Semitism, [scroll down page]
Cleveland Jewish News, September 29, 2004
"
The U.S. Department of Education says it will now prosecute cases of anti-Semitism on college campuses and in public schools. In a letter to schools received this week, the department's Office of Civil Rights said it had jurisdiction over matters of racial and national-origin discrimination, and therefore could investigate cases of harassment of Arab Muslims, Sikhs and Jewish students. Previously, anti-Semitism cases were deemed discrimination based on religion, and forwarded to the Justice Department. Now, the Education Department can take cases to an administrative law judge. "I have heard anecdotally that they think it is happening and people don't know where to turn," said Kenneth Marcus, who oversees the department's Office of Civil Rights. "People don't know they have an opportunity to get protection from the federal government." Marcus said harassment of Jews or other religious minorities may have ethnic or cultural components, which would put it under his purview."

[There is an implicit dialectic in this next guy's position. The rejoinder to him, of course, is that, no, it not "anti-Semitism" that "is immoral," but Jewish identity itself (tribalism, racism, ethnocentrism, trans-world Israelism). Bear in mind that this single-minded apologist for brutal, apartheid Israel is Jewish and the president of Harvard University! A toast to the premises of objectivity in academia! Poor oppressed dear, Mr. Summers used to be the number two man at the World Bank. Bigots like him are fraudsters of the worse sort and are a blight on the once noble principles of education. Why is such a potent Jewish Tribalist the head of Harvard, soiling its prestigious reputation? Jewish power. Jewish money. This man's own morality could fit up a germ's anus with room to spare. Hey, Summers! Get over it! There's no such thing as an "anti-Semite" any more! The movement that aims to drive your corrupt drivel from the shadows out into the open air is the New Moral Tide.]
Anti-Semitism Is Immoral,
by Lawrence H. Summers, Jewish Week, November 12, 2004
"I was powerfully struck two years ago, and am not less struck today, by the tendency to cross a line in discussions of Israel. It should be the right of any person to express any opinion he wishes with respect to Israeli foreign policy. And there is much in Israeli policy that surely should be debated, even legitimately criticized and questioned. But there are lines that need to be drawn. When Israel is singled out for moral opprobrium, something wrong is happening. When the conflict between Israelis and the Palestinians is approached in an entirely asymmetric fashion, with criticism or sanction directed only at Israel, something wrong is happening. When comparisons are drawn with Nazis or Hitler or the SS or apartheid in South Africa, something wrong is happening. And that is why I chose the words anti-Semitic to address proposals for the large-scale divestiture of companies doing business in Israel, to address the movement in England to remove Israeli scholars from the editorial boards of scholarly journals, to address the move of Presbyterian churches last summer to divest the stocks of companies that were doing business in Israel with no action whatsoever with respect to the Palestinians. There is much else that one can point to, and however one sees the debate in the United States, the debate has shifted to a less pleasant place in Europe. Which way are things likely to move? I wish I could be more encouraging, but the trends are not running in the direction that we would like them to run. People who become weary of a conflict inevitably seek to place blame on both sides, and that is happening with the Palestinians and the Israelis ... These pressures of anti-Semitism come at a time when the task of Israeli foreign policy and the task of enlightened American leadership have never been more difficult. And while I would claim expertise in the economic area, I certainly would not claim expertise in this political area. But it seems to me that the complexity of the problem lies in these realities and the morality is relatively clear. There is a very sharp distinction between the taking of innocent life with the sole objective of sponsored terror, and the response to those terrorist attacks. It seems very clear that there is one party to this conflict that is promoting violence and another party that is responding to violence ... And yet the right morality is not always the right guide to action. The demographic reality in the Middle East is that Arab populations are growing far more rapidly than Israeli populations. One recognizes that a society will have great difficulty being Jewish and truly democratic if the majority of people who live in its territory are not Jewish. For these reasons, we have to approach these matters in a very hardheaded way and recognize that that which is morally right is not always practically compelling ... I am convinced that it is an irony of this moment that even with Israel’s single economic success, even with the tremendous progress that the American Jewish community has made, that the kind of support we are here to discuss tonight, the kind of solidarity that it provides, has never been more important ... This article is adapted from a talk he gave last month at the launching of the 2005 UJA-Federation Annual Campaign at the Manhattan home of Alan C. “Ace” and Kathryn Greenberg, which raised $35.8 million."

Jewish speaker says struggle against anti-Semitism is a worldwide battle,
by Adrienne Bossi, Daily Collegian, November 10, 2004
"The Jewish Community of Amherst held a daylong teach-in Sunday discussing the changing face of anti-Semitism in today's world. "There is this one term, 'anti-Semitism,' used to describe a huge range and array of feelings," said Dr. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen of Harvard's Minda de Gunzburg Center for European studies. Goldhagen addressed an audience of roughly 70 individuals ranging from ages 17 to 87 with his speech, "What's new about the new anti-Semitism?" ... The other problem Goldhagen cited is the fact that anti-Semitism is multi-faceted. "Anti-Semitism is always changing. It has changed historically many times. It changes socially and between societies. It changes over eras and generations," he said. "It's a moving target," Goldhagen said. "It's a woolly phenomenon and amorphous in its expression." Goldhagen described the rise in anti-Semitic feelings throughout the world and especially within the European Union. A poll conducted in the 1990s of Catholics in Italy, Austria, and Germany showed that surprising numbers of people continue to believe the Jews are guilty for the death of Christ and are cursed because of it. 33 percent of Austrian, 25 percent of German, and 43 percent of Italian Catholics shared this sentiment. Anti-Semitic expressions are increasing worldwide. According to Goldhagen's statistics, between 33 and 45 percent of French Jews consider emigrating out of the country. "Those numbers are staggering," said Goldhagen. "One-third, to nearly one-half of French Jews say, 'there's no future for me here in France.'" Goldhagen said the French Interior Ministry termed that as a threat to democracy. The average number of anti-Semitic incidents in France during the 1990s was 10; from 2000 to 2002, it was 120. This year, they are predicting closer to 1000, although these statistics are also usually underreported. While many people in the United States have negative feelings towards Jews, "it is not as often expressed in polite society in this country. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's like an iceberg, where you don't see 90 percent of it," he said. Goldhagen said it has become taboo in modern times to talk about Israel without a valid reason why. "The US is the only country in the world today outside of Israel where Jews can speak out about Israel without being deemed suspect." There are a variety of causes for the revival of anti-Semitism, and they vary from country to country. Among these reasons are the lifting of political and social taboos on anti-Semitic expression. The lifting has unleashed simmering anti-Semitism, particularly in Germany. Goldhagen also cited the resentment toward continued discussion of the Holocaust, the availability of the Middle East conflict as a tool for anti-Semites to incite prejudice against Jews, and the permissive atmosphere in Europe. "Political and intellectual leaders fail to speak out forcefully against anti-Semitism ... where governments conceal the magnitude and danger of anti-Semitism and fail to vigorously combat it," he said. Goldhagen's speech was followed by a question-and-answer period when he was able to address his feelings on Mel Gibson's controversial film, "The Passion of the Christ," which explores the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. "I believe it is impossible for anyone that knows anything about anti-Semitism, as well as the New Testament, to believe this film is anything but anti-Semitic. It is a misguided and inaccurate portrayal of the role of Jews in the crucifixion," he said. Goldhagen went on to describe a set of guidelines, established and universally enforced by the Catholic Church, outlining how the Passion of Christ can be portrayed. They were set up to protect against breeding anti-Semitic feelings, among other things. "Gibson violated 37 of these guidelines. And the perverse thing is that the Vatican approved it," Goldhagen said. Although there is no solution to anti-Semitism, Goldhagen said that working to keep the problem minimally exposed in everyday life is a step in the right direction."

Because they are Jews,
by Rabbi David Wolpe, beliefnet.org
"Recently I scrolled through a website devoted to discussion of contemporary literature. Suddenly dropped into the discussion, for no apparent reason, was the following remark: "And today the Israeli army shot a child, which is their favorite thing to do."I felt a sickening roiling in my stomach. It was a familiar feeling composed of anger, frustration, fear, hurt. Could someone really believe this? I decided to suppose that this person is well disposed toward Jews, and simply disapproving of Israeli policy. Let us imagine that he really reluctantly believes the Israeli army tries to shoot children. Could this be? Would it survive a scintilla of critical thought? ... Do anti-Semites recognize their own prejudice? Most don't ... The last thing all Europe agreed upon was the elimination of Jews, and now it agrees on the unredeemable savagery of Israel. To assume a relation between the hatred that was and the vilification that is risks being called "a Zionist propagandist" one of those phrases designed not to describe, but to strangle discussion ...Today, too, the enemies of Israel insist their hatred has nothing to do with Israel being a Jewish state. Rather we are told it is because Israel is singularly evil, oppressive and murderous--but certainly, assuredly, NOT because they are Jews. The misrepresentations are not new. Sadly they have roots that go back hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of years. Other victims of hatred recognize the symptoms. As the black representative John Lewis, central to the civil rights movement, said: "During a recent U.N. conference on racism we were all shocked by the attacks on Jews, Israel and Zionism ...Once again, the words of (Dr. Martin Luther) King ran through my memory, ‘I solemnly pledge to do my utmost to uphold the fair name of the Jews--because bigotry in any form is an affront to us all.' During an appearance at Harvard University shortly before his death, a student stood up and asked (Dr. Martin Luther) King to address the issue of Zionism. The question was clearly hostile. King responded, 'When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism.'"

Roth Novel on Lindbergh Doesn't Cause Stir,
by Jeff Baenen, Yahoo! News (from Associated Press), November 17, 2004
" In his new book, "The Plot Against America," novelist Philip Roth imagines an America where aviator Charles Lindbergh wins the Republican nomination for president and beats Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940. After running on an isolationist platform, the fictional Lindbergh of Roth's best seller keeps the United States out of World War II, strikes a nonaggression pact with Adolf Hitler, then begins an assimilation program for American Jews. While Roth's book raises the old issue of whether Lindbergh was anti-Semitic, it's causing barely a ripple in Little Falls, the central Minnesota town where the man who would become the first person to successfully fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean spent his boyhood summers ... In Roth's book, Lindbergh campaigns in the "Spirit of St. Louis" — the plane he flew across the ocean — and defeats Roosevelt, a Democrat seeking an unprecedented third term, in a landslide. Roth — whose works include "Goodbye Columbus," "Portnoy's Complaint" and the Pulitzer Prize-winning "American Pastoral" — wrote in an essay for The New York Times Book Review that he became intrigued after reading that some Republican isolationists wanted to run Lindbergh for president in 1940. In explaining why he chose Lindbergh, Roth wrote: "Lindbergh as a social force was distinguished not solely by his isolationism but by his racist attitude toward Jews — an attitude that is reflected unambiguously in his speeches, diaries and letters." (Roth is already at work on his next book and was not available for an interview. Lindbergh's family has no comment on the book, family attorney Patton Hyman said.) ... Brian Horrigan of the Minnesota Historical Society, who was curator of an exhibit on Lindbergh's life at the Lindbergh Historic Site, disputes that Lindbergh was an anti-Semite. "It was very, very widespread in the culture, and there were people on whom you could hang that accusation of anti-Semite much more firmly than on Lindbergh," Horrigan said. Lindbergh became an international hero after piloting the "Spirit of St. Louis" from New York to Paris in 33 1/2 hours in May 1927. His name inspired everything from perfumes to songs to a dance, the "Lindy Hop' ... After a wave of sympathy when the Lindberghs' young son was kidnapped and killed in 1932, Lindbergh was criticized as pro-Nazi in the years leading up to the United States' entry into World War II. In 1936, Lindbergh and his wife were invited to Germany by Hermann Goering and the German Air Ministry. The couple attended the Olympic Games in Berlin, where Lindbergh glimpsed Hitler but never met him. But it's now known that the U.S. government had arranged the visit, to learn more about Nazi Germany's growing Luftwaffe. And the Nazis were all too happy to show off their air fields to Lindbergh, who reported back that the United States needed to boost its defensive air power in case of attack. Two years later, Goering presented Lindbergh with an award from the German government. Lindbergh never apologized for accepting the swastika-studded medal and never returned it. Roth's book envisions a parallel United States where a facist-sympathizing Lindbergh creates an Office of American Absorption for breaking up Jewish families ... Before World War II, Lindbergh became a spokesman for the America First Committee, which advocated keeping the United States out of a European war. Lindbergh was mocked in caricatures by Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss), who showed Lindbergh patting the head of a Nazi sea serpent, and in song by Woody Guthrie. Lindbergh's isolationism was rooted in his family history. His father, C.A. Lindbergh, was a Republican congressman from Minnesota from 1907 to 1917 and had opposed America's entry into World War I. It all came to a head on Sept. 11, 1941, with a speech Charles Lindbergh gave in Des Moines, Iowa, in which he said: "The three most important groups who have been pressing this country toward war are the British, the Jewish and the Roosevelt administration." For his remarks, the historical society's Horrigan said, Lindbergh was "pilloried around the country' ... Lindbergh instead became a consultant to U.S. air forces in the South Pacific and flew 50 combat missions — downing a Japanese Zero, an act for which he felt remorse."

Galloway Accuses Barrister of 'Anti-Semitism' Jibe,
by Cathy Gordon and Jan Colley, The Scotsman, November 16, 2004
"MP George Galloway clashed angrily with a newspaper’s barrister at the High Court today over what he denounced as an “accusation of anti-semitism” against him. On the second day of his libel action against the Daily Telegraph, Mr Galloway demanded that the paper’s QC, James Price, withdrew his “clear accusation of anti-semitism against me”. The drama unfolded as Mr Price continued his cross-examination of Mr Galloway, who is suing the Daily Telegraph over “outrageous and incredibly damaging” allegations that he was in Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s secret pay. He put to Mr Galloway: “My suggestion to you is that responsible journalists and editors could well take the view that a lot of people took, including politicians, that you were a well-known apologist for Saddam Hussein.” The 50-year-old MP for Glasgow Kelvin replied that this was “certainly the view in 1998 in a leader in the Daily Telegraph”. He said he freely conceded that throughout the time the Daily Telegraph was in the control of then owner, Lord Conrad Black and his wife Barbara Amiel, the paper “hated everything that I believed about the Middle East”. At that point Mr Price asked if he was saying this was because Lady Black was Jewish. From the witness box in the packed court, Mr Galloway stormed: “If you can libel someone in court ...That is a very serious libel. “That is a clear accusation of anti-semitism against me and I demand that you withdraw it. “I have never made an anti-semitic comment in my entire life and I demand that you withdraw it.” Mr Price asked him to look at a letter “in which you are seeking to raise funds for this lawsuit” where he had described Lord and Lady Black as “two of Sharon’s Israel’s most vociferous supporters”. His voice raised, Mr Galloway told the court: “This is an outrage. This letter does not mention the word Jewish.” Once again he demanded that Mr Price “withdraw the allegation of anti-semitism against me”. The QC said he had not made such an accusation. Mr Galloway: “You said that in this letter I referred to Lady Black as being Jewish. It’s a lie, a lie, a lie.” Mr Price said he withdrew the suggestion that he had referred to Lady Black as Jewish: “You referred to her as one of Israel’s most vociferous supporters.” Asked why he had referred to her in that way, Mr Galloway replied: “I referred to both Lord and Lady Black as being two of Sharon’s Israel’s most vociferous supporters for the very simple fact that they are and they themselves would boast to that effect.” After Mr Price had completed his cross-examination, Mr Galloway’s QC, Richard Rampton referred to the “fund-raising letter which my learned friend produced out of his back pocket this morning”. He added: “Mr Price seems to think that you are concerned about the fact that Barbara Amiel, Lord Black’s wife, is Jewish. We will pass over that. It has been withdrawn, I hope.” Mr Galloway said: “But it will be reported. It is the kind of mud they like to throw about.
Mr Rampton: “It is regrettable and it should not have been said. You have said it was relevant to mention Lord and Lady Black because they controlled the newspaper and they were two of Sharon’s Israel’s most vociferous supporters”. Mr Galloway agreed, adding: “He was not just the owner. No proprietorial couple could have been more hands on than Lord Black and Barbara Amiel as everyone in the field of journalism knows.”

Rash of anti-Semitic incidents leaves Argentine Jews rattled,
by Florencia Arbiser, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, November 17, 2004
"Argentine Jewish leaders are wondering whether a string of recent anti-Semitic incidents indicates a growing trend of Jew-hatred.
Abraham Kaul, president of the AMIA central Jewish institution, couldn’t hide his concern Tuesday at a meeting with Jewish media. At dawn on Sunday, swastikas and a picture of Hitler were found at the Jewish cemetery of Liniers. On Monday, more graffiti — swastikas and threatening messages — had been added. The messages included “Kristallnacht 08/11/38,” a reference to the murderous pogrom that heralded the onset of the Nazis’ most restrictive anti-Semitic policies; and “Movement Walther Darre,” a reference to a former Nazi agriculture minister who was born in Argentina ... Over the past week, three other local Jewish institutions — the Hebraica Jewish club, Paso Temple and the Sephardic Congregation — suffered bomb threats, though the news was not made public to avoid spreading fear in a country where bombings destroyed the Israeli Embassy in 1992 and the AMIA community center in 1994 ... A few months ago, a Buenos Aires city legislator called one of her office employees a “shitty Jew,” but was not punished. Two weeks ago, an Argentine rabbi was giving a university lecture when a dozen people in the audience stood up and gave the Nazi salute."

Banned Nationalist Party Holds Anti-Semitic Rally in Central Moscow,
Moscow News (Russia), November 17, 2004
"Holding up dozens of anti-Semitic signs, hundreds of people rallied in central Moscow’s main thoroughfare Tverskaya Street on Saturday to protest the arrest warrant for nationalist leader Boris Mironov, wanted on charges of inciting inter-racial hatred. The group that apparently organized the rally — the National Power Party of Russia — was banned by the Justice Ministry for inciting inter-racial hatred. On one poster held up at the rally, it identified itself as the party of “those who are ready to fight the Jewish yoke”.While reporters from the independent Ekho Moskvy radio station said there were only 200 demonstrators Saturday afternoon, and no anti-Semitic signs of any kind, a MosNews correspondent estimated there were as many as 800 people gathered in Pushkin Square. Their signs featured various accusations against the Jewish people, quoting historical figures such as Napoleon and Henry Ford. “Jews! Disgusting types. Get your stinking paws away from Boris Mironov!” one placard read.Another sign read that Jews were the “plague of society and its greatest foes”. According to a new law passed earlier this year, all rallies must be registered with the Moscow prefecture. Yelena Polyakova, an official from the prefecture of Moscow’s central district, where the organizers obtained permission for the rally, told MosNews that a public initiative group registered for the rally, calling itself the Slavic Journalists’ Union who wanted to hold a rally “in support of Russian Patriots”.Polyakova said that since the National Power Party of Russia is banned, it cannot organize rallies itself. It appears this was probably done for the party by the Slavic Journalists’ Union.“Prosecutors were present at the rally, and they probably took note of the [anti-Semitic] signs and the presence of the party,” Polyakova told MosNews."

Armenians Express Anti-Semitism?,
by Ara Martirosian, Armenian Daily, November 19, 2004
"Lately, the Jewish community of Armenia declared about manifestations of anti-Semitism in the country. Such statements are weird, to say the least, as there is no Jewish community as such in Armenia but there are Armenian-Jewish families and children from these mixed marriages. They may be well called Jews or Armenians likewise. Secondly, the authors of the statement should have known that not only anti-Semitism but also any kind of xenophobia is peculiar to Armenians. Then what is the reason of this statement made on behalf of the Jews, most of whom must be unaware of it, living in Armenia? The expression of Jewish chauvinism and disgraceful actions taken against a servant of the Armenian Church in Jerusalem are still fresh in our memory. Not long ago after the incident with the Armenian priest, a servant of Greek Orthodox Church was attacked. It is already a fact that the Israelites are not, to put it mildly, friendly disposed to national and religious minorities of the country and that Armenians see the results of anti-Armenian moods every day. It’s interesting why the so-called Jewish community of Armenia did not condemn anti-Armenian acts, instead declared of being persecuted. It is clear as noonday that they aim at saving Jerusalem’s reputation. As there no serious ground for accusing Armenians in anti-Semitism, we may assume that they want to justify anti-Armenian moods. This step equals them to their wretched compatriots."

["The fact that it is coming from an academic should scare people?" No, Mr. Farber. It should scare Jews and the sordid real-life Zionist cabals that have completely usurped the Jewish community and run it. The Zionist secrets are starting to spill out and shouting "anti-Semite" at everyone on the planet is running out of steam. And get this. The "anti-Semitic" criminal here is Jewish. Shouting "anti-Semite" at yet another Jew is also sounding really lame and ridiculous. Now if a few thousand Jews like Mr. Noble succeded in overthrowing the racist, censorial monsters that run the world Jewish community, and the Jewish rank and file climbed off their holy pedestals, there would be less a need for this web site. The interesting thing is that those who condemn Noble's "singling out" of the Jews who run York University include an Arab (or Pakistani?). This of course underscores the total ignorance and complete brainwashing that many in the pro-Palestinian movement have about "singling out" ethnic groups for critical attention. An allegiance to the tired old platitudes of Political Correctness guarantees Palestinian destruction because the true nemesis -- Jewish power, Jewish racism, and vengeful, vindictive Jewish identity itself (all of which inform Zionism) -- can never be identified and therefore never defeated on the open plain of moral struggle. Memo stirs controversy at York U.,
by Prithi Yelaja, Toronto Star, November 21, 2004
"A history professor is demanding an apology from a leading Jewish rights group and York University for what he calls "scurrilous attacks" on his character and attempts to squelch his freedom of speech. If no apology is forthcoming, David Noble said he'd consider legal action against the Canadian Jewish Congress and York. The congress has denounced Noble for spreading "anti-Semitic" material on campus. Noble handed out a memo last week listing the names of the directors of the York University Foundation, the school's fundraising arm, and their links to pro-Israel organizations. The material, which appears to suggest that a small cabal of Jews runs the foundation, is reminiscent of classic Jewish-conspiracy theories, Bernie Farber, executive director of the congress, said yesterday. "Not only is this absurd, it reeks of anti-Semitism.... It's bizarre, and if this wasn't coming from an academic, one would laugh it off. The fact that it's coming from an academic should scare people." Noble, who has taught at York for 15 years and is Jewish, said those comments are worrisome and "deeply offensive to me because my own family has suffered from anti-Semitism." "When you get these kinds of scurrilous attacks it trivializes anti-Semitism. I guess they didn't do their homework and find out I was Jewish." There will be no apology, Farber said, arguing Noble can't use that as "a cloak" for his actions. Noble spontaneously distributed copies of a memo he wrote called "The Tail that Wags the Dog (Suggestions for Further Research)" after a Thursday film screening by the student group Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights. It claims the foundation "is biased by the presence and influence of staunch pro-Israel lobbyists, activists and fundraising agencies." Noble asserted yesterday that the foundation is "de facto running York. They clamp down on any criticism of Israel." Pro-Arab and pro-Israel students separately agreed to denounce Noble's actions. Rabia Siddiqui of the Solidarity group said it was inappropriate "for anyone to single anyone out because of their race, in any circumstances." "It is unacceptable for any student to be exposed to this type of bigotry," Dori Borshiov, president of the Jewish group Hillel at York, added in a statement. A statement by university president Lorna Marsden said "York strongly condemns this highly offensive material," which singles out people "on the basis of their ethnicity and alleged political views."

Jewish Agency eAcademy Announces Course on Combating Anti-Semitism,
New York Jewish Times
"Anti-Zionism, Holocaust denial, and conspiracy theories are prevalent on many college campuses, parading as thinly veiled guises for Jew hatred. In this course, students will examine these expressions and analyze the messages and materials that are being propagated against the Jewish people. The instructors will present real case studies, analyses and resources. They will also provide a wide range of effective responses with which to combat anti-Semitic incidents on campus. This course is presented in conjunction with the Israel Government Office of the Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Jerusalem. Course Goals:
* To examine the origins of anti-Semitism today and its expression in the community and on campus.
* To help students identify anti-Semitic expression even when couched in anti-Zionism/anti-Israel sentiment or historical revisionism.
* To provide students with the tools necessary to analyze anti-Semitic incidents and the means to respond effectively.
* To offer strategies to deal with public and physical expressions of anti-Semitism on campus, such as vandalism, physical attacks, intimidation, graffiti, and racist flyers ... All the courses are delivered entirely over the Internet, with no physical classroom meetings. Students work with course materials at their own convenience at any time, from any Internet connection anywhere in the world. Learning takes place through a combination of assigned readings, class discussions, instructor feedback, and writing assignments. Occasional synchronous events are pre-planned so that students will have advance time to plan their schedules. Through these events students will have the opportunity to meet in "real time" with their instructors or special guests."

Anti-Jewish joke in yearbook puts more bad light on LCC,
by TU THANH HA, Globe and Mail (Canada), November 26, 2004
"Montreal's exclusive Lower Canada College is again in an embarrassing spot after two graduating students placed coded messages calling for death to all Jews in the school's yearbook as a joke. The statements, in a jumble of acronym-like e-mail shorthand, were spotted hours before the 2003-2004 yearbook was to be widely distributed this month. All 1,000 copies were destroyed. "It was a hidden message that was intended to be a secret between two students," headmaster Paul Bennett said in an interview yesterday. "These students don't represent anyone but themselves but they've caused a tremendous amount of harm and that's what's so upsetting about it." Jewish community groups said they felt the incident wasn't serious. However, it came after LCC garnered unwanted headlines last month when a handful of students were caught trying to circulate crude counterfeit money to cover gambling debts. Yesterday, Mr. Bennett said the two hidden messages were spotted thanks to a tip from fellow student. "We have concluded that the two offensive comments were intended as a 'secret' that the two 16-year-olds thought no one would notice," he wrote in a letter sent yesterday to the parents of all LCC students. "The incident stemmed from a personal disagreement between two boys and was isolated in nature." Mr. Bennett said that it does not reflect the views of the school's 745 students, and that the authors have Jewish friends and are not anti-Semitic. The culprits got letters of reprimand in their files but cannot be disciplined because they have graduated."

[This article below is absurd. Zionists, by definition, CAUSE what they regard as "anti-Semitism." How can they possibly convince anyone out of it, unless the daily crimes of Israel are completely censored off the airwaves while they lecture how generically gentle Jews are? Bands of "Zionist youth groups" propagandizing in French schools inevitably invite anti-Jewish hostility simply because Zionism is a brutal, hypocritical, and racist creed and Zionism consciously declares world Jewry and apartheid Israel to be one and the same. This story below is something akin to groups of Nazi stormtroopers going school to school in Poland and Hungary to demand that students love the German people.]
Zionist youth groups to battle anti-Semitism in French schools,
by Amiram Barakat, Haaretz (Israel), November 29, 2004
"
Groups of young people will distribute educational material to combat anti-Semitism in French public schools, the Zionist youth group convention decided in Strasbourg yesterday. The project is slated to begin in January with teams of Jewish and non-Jewish youth entering classrooms and explaining the importance of fighting anti-Semitism. Some 250 leaders of Zionist youth groups from 22 European countries attended the conference, held to respond to the steep rise in the number of violent anti-Semitic incidents in Europe, and especially in France in 2004. "

[Another upwardly mobile journalist (Condemn anti-Semitism, get a raise?) sees fit to protect the Jewish Lobby from examination on the other side of the world. We wonder who owns and/or edits the "Asia Times." And why is the subject of "anti-Semitism" in Malaysia such a burning issue for the "Asia" Times, given this article's own assertion that there aren't many Jews in Malyasia. Who should care about this subject, unless it's important to police ideas in Asia as well as everywhere else? We have no knowledge of the man impugned below, Mr. Piper, but we invite Mr. Bellinger, the author of this article, to engage us in an email debate about the subjects of "anti-Semitism" and Jewish power that would be published in its entirety at this web site.]
Anti-Semitism peddled in Southeast Asia,
by Keith Andrew Bellinger, Asia Times, November 30, 2004
"
KUALA LUMPUR [Malaysia]. In casual conversations about geopolitics here, it is common to hear charges that Israel controls US foreign policy or that Jews run the world (one of these more virulent indictments came from former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who stated just before stepping down last year that "Jews rule the world by proxy"). This is a truth that "everyone knows" and is a common view around the world. The problem with this "truth" is that the evidence to back it up is sketchy at best, relying on questionable facts and a selective interpretation of events and information. There is a vacuum of conclusive data, and corroboration can't be found in the mainstream media. But an emerging trend suggests that US and European extremist groups are recognizing demand among Southeast Asian Muslims for anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism and are moving to adjust their message to spread the broader message of anti-Semitism. One clear instance of this is the recent visit to Malaysia of American "journalist" Michael Collins Piper, a writer and editor for the American Free Press. Piper addressed several groups, including the Bar Council of Malaysia, on a trip that also included a stop in Japan. Piper's talks ostensibly were about the hidden motivations for US foreign policy, but some basic research reveals that Piper's musings are characteristic of an effort by anti-Semites and white supremacists to repackage themselves as "alternative media voices" claiming to tackle stories the mainstream media in the US won't touch. The formula is easily recognizable to American readers: analyze any event and bend, shape and twist facts to reveal a Jewish influence. To spread his message, Piper also spent time promoting his books, which were given out free at several speaking engagements. As anti-Semitism spreads from the Middle East to moderate Muslims around the world, anti-Semitic literature is selling faster than it can be restocked on bookstore shelves. Publications that contributed to the zeitgeist from which the Holocaust sprang have now begun finding readers in Malaysia. Universal disapproval of Israeli foreign policy is fueling a resurgence of anti-Jewish sentiment. And anti-Israel becomes anti-Jew. Of course, many people here do not know the difference between anti-Semitism and anti-Israel; some say book sales simply reflect Malaysian's love for conspiracy. But due to their lack of a Jewish experience - the only evidence of a Jewish presence in Malaysia is an old Jewish cemetery in Penang - people are groping to understand world events. And people like Piper are ready with a framework that explains all the unfairness and injustice that exists. In the process, though, the seeds of anti-Semitism are planted ... In preparing for this article, I wrote several e-mails and called the Malaysian Bar Council a number of times. The human rights officer and the communications officer both refused to comment, but only after they asked me if I was a Jew ... Rabbi Cooper [of the Simon Weisenthal Center in Los Angeles] suggested that there is a "need to find conspiracy theories that will get Islamists and jihadists of the hook". So in Malaysia, where there are no Jews, it may seem irrelevant. "What's the harm?" one might ask. But Cooper explained that for a nation determined to be recognized as "developed" by the year 2020, it is very dangerous ... "Bringing in a guy like Piper to speak to your decision-makers is like bringing in the lunatic fringe to provide analysis of the Bush administration's plans over the next four years ... It's a terrible signal to investors in the US," Cooper said ... Whether Piper's appearance here indicates a lack of research by his hosts, or a genuine anti-Jewish bent, his cause is served. He and others like him will continue to bang the drum of Jewish conspiracy now that they have found a new audience. Perhaps the most telling excerpt from Piper's interview with the Star was a comment on the US election: "The pro-Israel influence will remain, whichever party wins the election ... Israel wins whoever wins the presidential election." And either way, people like Piper will still be in business."

[JTR contributor's note, per the above article: "This will give you a quick round-up by [Michael Collins] Piper of his theory, which basically is that Mossad killed JFK. I thought that the assertion by Rabbi David Cooper of the Weisenthal Center that Malaysia would suffer disinvestment for letting the guy speak was pretty paradigmatic."]

Saying no to Israel is not anti-Semitism,
A guest column by B J Paschal, Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, December 1, 2004
"Does an American religious denomination such as the Presbyterian Church have the right to divest an $8 billion portfolio from Israel? Apparently not, according to the U.S. News & World Report, headed by Editor-in-Chief Mortimer B. Zuckerman and other pro-Israel embedded journalists such as John Leo. How could this magazine, which claims to be 'America's most credible print news source,' attempt to vilify the Presbyterian Church General Assembly's decision to selectively divest from companies that profit from Israel's illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories? Answer: The “free press” clause in the First Amendment. But don’t the “religion clauses” in the First Amendment give Presbyterians the right to do what they believe is right? Don’t Presbyterians have the right to demand of companies that, before they buy their shares, they want them to share their values? John Leo says “No!” These “leftists” simply “pummel Israel whenever possible.” Their “fixation on Israel” is a “one-sided expression of ideology.” Why not criticize “China, Libya, Syria or North Korea”? asked Leo. The answer is simple. We taxpayers give Israel more wrong money than any nation on planet Earth, and we demand very little of Israel. It’s time for a change. The U.S. News (Oct. 19) used a report from the right-wing ideologues at the Institute on Religion and Democracy to call the General Assembly a bunch of “fringe leftists.” Rubbish! Why didn’t Leo point out that 14 members of the House of Representatives (including three of 52 Presbyterians in Congress) have implored the Presbyterian Church to rescind its decision? That’s government interfering with people of faith. But the 14 representatives justify their “messing with religion” by pointing out that the church’s action is causing “terrible distress.” To whom? I hope to the government of Israel. We Presbyterians have criticized the Republican-controlled Congress for failing to be a balanced arbiter for peace in the Middle East. Why did Leo fail to mention that fact? While Congress, the New Yorker and U.S. News have repeatedly denounced the Palestinian authority, they have never condemned Israel’s continuous illegal construction of settlements on the West Bank. Why? The Anglican Church has announced its intention to adopt a corporate divestment strategy similar to that of the Presbyterian Church. What about the evangelicals? They believe they stand for high moral purpose in politics. They don’t. Therefore, don’t hold your breath for them to suddenly find Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Is divestment anti-Semitism? No, the charge is rubbish."

When churches head left,
by John Leo, Jewish World Review, October 11, 2004

"A
merica's mainline protestant churches are in trouble. One sign is shrinking membership. Another is turning their political policymaking over to fringe leftists whose deepest instinct is to blame America and pummel Israel whenever possible. The latest disgrace is the Presbyterian Church's plan for selective divestment in Israel — ending the church's investment in multinational companies that the church believes bear particular responsibility for the sufferings of the Palestinian people. For example, the Presbyterians say they may divest themselves of Caterpillar stock, because bulldozers made by that company are used to level Palestinian homes in Israel's antiterrorism campaign. Of course, these bulldozers can also be used to move debris after Palestinian suicide bombers have finished blowing up another round of women, children, and other civilian bystanders in Israel. How do the Presbyterians go about adopting stances like this? Apparently they cast a stern moral glance around the world, look for possible abuses in China, North Korea, and Iran, and seeing nothing disturbing there, decide to focus once again on Israel. The conservative Institute on Religion and Democracy (IRD) released a measured and devastating report on the human-rights efforts of mainline churches and groups — the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Episcopal Church, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), plus the reliably leftist National Council of Churches and World Council of Churches. The report, covering the years 2000 to 2003, found that of 197 human-rights criticisms by mainline churches and groups, 37 percent were aimed at Israel and 32 percent at the United States."

Israeli rabbi warns of European hostility. Former chief rabbi Rabbi Israel Meir Lau is calling on national leaders to prepare for the absorption of Jews from an increasingly hostile Europe,
World Peace Herald (from UPI), December 3, 2004
"Lau, elected the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel in 1993, warned Thursday of a rise in anti-Semitism in nearly every European country that is sometimes expressed via extreme anti-Israel sentiments, Ha'aretz reported Friday. As a result, Israel should prepare for the migration of Europe's approximately 1 million Jews, he said. As examples of Europe's growing anti-Semitism Lau cited data released last week in Germany indicating that 62 percent of that country's citizens are tired of hearing about the Holocaust, and 70 percent of Germans are angered when reminded of Nazi crimes, the poll indicated. Lau, born in Poland in 1937 and a Holocaust survivor, said Thursday he does not see a future for the Jewish community in Europe. "I see the end of the Diaspora of Jews in Europe," Lau said. "I call on the government to prepare for a new phase in the spiritual and physical absorption of European Jewry before they consider emigrating to the United States or Australia."

[The JTR Contributor's note for the following article is long, so see it here at the feedback section. Our comment is as follows : Jews are never satisfied. There's always something to scream about. Usually they want "anti-Semitism" censored out of all stories, but here's a Jew who demands that it go back in. But we agree with this guy. Sort of, in a kind of inverse manner. Jewish historical revisionism is fraudulent. And spinning everyone in history who justifiably criticized Jews as Politically Correct clowns today is Thought Police nonsense. So definitely put the "anti-Semitism" back into Shakespeare, where it belongs, and stop censoring everything. And while you're busy making Shylock Shylock again, put the "anti-Semitism" back into everyone else the Jewish Thought Police has slandered for telling the truth -- from Karl Marx to Voltaire to Dickens to Hemingway.]
Sanitizing Merchant: Pacino Plays Shylock Like a Groucho Tevye,
by Ron Rosenbaum, New York Observer, December 4, 2004
"[I]t’s hard for me to withhold comment, since I just delivered a talk (before seeing the Pacino Merchant) at a "Shakespeare and Politics" colloquium at Fairleigh Dickinson University on the strategies of evasion that contemporary Shakespearean productions have used to erase or occlude the anti-Semitism in the play. And since I’m working on a book on Shakespeare scholarship and just published an anthology on contemporary anti-Semitism, it’s something I have strong feelings about. And I can’t help feeling the erasure of the play’s anti-Semitism in this film—however well-meaning—is part of the problem, not a solution.Al Pacino has demonstrated a sensitivity to the complexity of Shakespeare (and ability to play the complexity) in his Looking for Richard. And he does an honorable job embodying the Shylock that director Michael Radford has sculpted from Shakespeare ... The Shylock that Mr. Radford has given Mr. Pacino to play is an inoffensive, defanged, P.C. Shylock. A Shylock that is less like Shakespeare’s Jew than a heroically suffering Everyman, a Brechtian Mother Courage figure of endurance, persisting however put upon. A Shylock safe for civics classes. A Shylock who is more like a somewhat grouchy version of Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. Indeed, you might as well call this forthcoming film The Usurer on the Roof. But that’s what you get when your producer, Cary Brokaw, announces (in the production material for the film): "This is a play about Anti-Semitism … and about discrimination, and about prejudice but it is not Anti-Semitic. Shylock is a very sympathetic character. We understand his pain …. "Well, yes, it’s sympathetic—if you leave all the unsympathetic bits out ("He found just the right things to cut," Mr. Brokaw says of director Radfor ... When the Nazis put on no less than 50 productions of The Merchant of Venice in the 30’s, it was not because it was anti-Semitic—perish the thought. They just wanted "a true statement about culture at a particular time."Everyone in the production seems to be buying this line. The actress who plays Portia informs us, via the production notes, that "the depth in Shakespeare’s play could never solely be trivialized under the guise of racism. ‘What I want people to take away from this is it’s about human forgiveness and how we rise above the norm for us, the prejudice and the differences. It’s not Christian versus Jew, it’s human and personal.’"So even thinking of it as about "racism" is trivializing it. And none dare concede there is anti-Semitism in the play (it’s, rather, "about anti-Semitism"), or say it has something to do with the theological specificity of religious hatred directed at the Jews. Not ecumenical enough. So it’s about intolerance in general. About how we should all love each other ... All this raises an interesting question: What does it mean to stage or film The Merchant of Venice? Does it mean that you can put on a "piece" that is a plea for tolerance designed to be safe for high-school civics classes and call it The Merchant of Venice? It’s the question raised by the famous 17th-century "happy ending" adaptation of King Lear by Nahum Tate (which was virtually the only version of King Lear played for more than a century), the one that had Shakespeare’s all-too-downbeat tragedy end instead with Cordelia alive and marrying the good guy Edgar to rule over a peaceful and united kingdom. You want tragedy in King Lear, that old thing? You see The Merchant of Venice to be anti-Semitic, at least in part, or about Jews? How silly and antiquated. Merchant of Venice teaches tolerance, and Shylock is an oppressed hero. An interesting contrast to the words of John Gross, the astute British critic whose definitive 1992 history, Shylock: A Legend and Its Legacy, concludes rather unequivocally: "Shylock is meant to be a villain. There can be arguments about his motives and his personality, but there can be no serious argument about his behavior. Given the opportunity—an opportunity which he himself has created—he attempts to commit legalized murder. He is also a Jewish villain. He didn’t have to be: Christians were moneylenders too, and the story would have worked perfectly well with a Christian villain …. Behind his plot against Antonio lie fantasies of ritual murder, ultimately going back to the Jews’ supposed role in the Crucifixion." ... . In sanitizing the play, in making it a universalist fable of the injustices of intolerance, in occluding the problem of anti-Semitism, this production erases history. This urgent flight from even conceding that there is a problem, that the play is not just about anti-Semitism, but that Shakespeare’s Shylock is an anti-Semitic caricature, may be part of a trend, one that could come under the rubric of "anti-Semitism denial," the phrase coined by Gabriel Schoenfeld (in The Return of Anti-Semitism). Things that seem to involve anti-Semitism (Mel Gibson’s Passion, Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America, which many clever reviewers have informed us, contra Roth, is not really about Jews and anti-Semitism, but about George Bush), really aren’t about anything as parochial and old hat as Jews and Jew hatred. Please, that would be missing the deeper, more sophisticated and universalist point. Abstraction, one-dimensional political allegory, substitutes for the complexity of history. Anti-Semitism is, of course, a bit embarrassing to talk about—one doesn’t want to let so parochial a concern intrude upon sophisticated literary discourse, or inhibit in any way a fanciful literary critic or an au courant director. Why be bound by the ostensible content of a controversial work when one can use it to demonstrate one’s belief in tolerance and one’s other political virtues?Which is what Merchant director Radford does. Of course, his Merchant is not an anti-Semitic work: He just removes all the most anti-Semitic elements from it. Not the anti-Semitic taunts against the Jew Shylock, but the elements in the original Shakespearean text which put the Jew in a bad light. Which identified Shylock’s flaws as specifically Jewish flaws, which exploited venomous racial and religious stereotypes that deepened rather than ameliorated the anti-Semitism that could be dismissed as cartoonish caricature in Marlowe’s Jew of Malta. It’s not that I want to see anti-Semitic characterizations perpetuated, but erasing and sanitizing history is not the solution. It’s as if someone took you down to lower Manhattan, and showed you a beautiful new development that was growing around a large hole in the ground, but refused to acknowledge the murderous hatred that had produced Ground Zero ... The other chief sanitizing strategy of contemporary Merchants is to emphasize the supposedly equivalent miscreance of the money-hungry Christians. Yes, they’re louts and layabouts and materialistic, but in being so, they are explicitly defying the purported loving essence of Christianity. While Shylock (in the actual play, anyway) is fulfilling the true mercenary purpose and destiny of Jews in his greed. It’s in his Jewish genes. But hey, no problem, just leave that stuff out. And you’ve got your lesson in tolerance that high-school teachers can safely send their students to. We can make the rest of literature safe, too; I guess we should get started.Oh, well."
